Damn, my boy Stephen came prepared lol If it was Fallon, he'd just be giggling frantically around his desk, wondering wtf going on

Eaque Johnson Steven is one of the very few that actually can go toe to toe with Russell. He also knows how to actually engage him and show his interest in what matters to him.
@jomontanee
@jomontanee 6 лет назад
Eaque you don't need to put someone down to raise someone up. It's very UNCOOL. Colbert is always great with writers, thinkers but he fails miserably with stars, celebs etc. His interviews with them are bland and boring. But I love him the most when he interviews thinkers. Everybody has his or her own niche, I believe.
@SaintMu
@SaintMu 6 лет назад
Jo Montanee I didn't put anyone down to raise someone up, as you suggest. You extrapolated that from a simple 2-line comment, but that is your thinking, not mine. imo, THAT's what's uncool here. I never tried to rate Colbert higher than Fallon or anyone in general, I'm merely talking about this specific interview with Russell Brand, and joking that Fallon wouldn't do anywhere as good as this (which I assumed judging from past interviews with the two). In reality, I think Colbert is only good when he can be provocative/aggressive or show depth, he's never starstruck (to the point that I don't think he cares about Hollywood stars at all), so yeah his interviews with stars are flat and sometimes awkward, I never watch them anymore. But see, you're the one who's assuming that I'm trying to praise my favorite by belittling the others - you're the one making assumptions.

This was beautiful and brilliant. It's awesome to see Russells energy tempered a bit by someone who actually listens and challenges him, and it's equally awesome to see Stephen have a conversation where he's actually able to show his smarts and wisdom.

Elke Ve My favorite interviews done by Colbert are usually with authors, intellectuals, political journalists, etc... Russel Brand is of course so multi faceted as a person that he is definitely not the average boring hollywood celebrity interview!
@treehuggerdude4

Yeah, I agree. They got on quite well. Colbert followed his logic and Brand seemed to like being taken seriously. Letterman used to make fun of brand (characterizing him as a wierdo) and Conan just didn't understand him at all (his sidekick does to some extent but the one who has to bring the laughs is Conan and he's usually disarmed by Brand.) So yea, Colbert did well.

I don't know...others may dislike him and his thoughts on life and the way he moves about in his chair, but honestly, he's a breath of fresh air compared to every other celebrity on these shows. He offers something that provokes deep thought for the viewer that is game for it, not just blah blah blah.

Genevieve Don't reckon. He spews half-remembered Shelley and seems to rage at things that don't necessarily need raging against, trying to wrap his fevered brain around his place and worth. Acquiescence to life and all it contains, isn't all that complex. It's a fleeting material gift, stop and take it in. To look for or demand more and reason to boot, is only naive greed.

Shellz Insulting him? You or yours? Don't reckon. As for philosophy, addiction and clarity I'd more than welcome a chin wag with him over a drink or other. I do find him amusing occasionally, his standup not so much and am in agreement with some of what he says and writes. Could discuss his lectures, written works and hear his take on a few topics. I.e. The Epicurean Paradox, a prime mover and whether one is necessary or not, Aquinas himself possibly disputing a causal chain as evidence to begin with, certain aspects of Buddhism, Stoicism, the worship of Daoist mediums (possible introduction to such), the effort in obtaining Chandu from poppy straw, withdrawal, putting his foot in it with Wossy (if he's up for it) and more.

Russell brand changed my life. He made me realize we are all in pain and are trying to escape pain through outlets: movies/going out, dining,social media, RU-vid, sleep, food, drugs, gambling, alcohol, shopping. We can only get through pain by looking inside ourselves and being at peace without escaping to any distractions.

This is one of the those rare guests that can match wits with Stephen. Brand has a way of controlling and delivering an existential crisis. Usually the guest is the straight man, but in this case Colbert had to turn serious and address his big questions. Now we can go back to being bored and watching the latest celebrity skit.

He's right about 'the drive is the same'. I'm an addict. And have been - gambling, sex (still) - people who say 'that's not a real addiction' are idiots and just haven't experienced it; anything that consumes and denigrates your life and is a behaviour you want to stop but can't IS an addiction, all kinds of drugs, currently alcoholic and it's ruined/ruining my life also... they're all the same. No addiction is unique.

It's so enjoyable to watch when someone can follow Russell.

Stephen is intelligent enough to follow, and respond to Russell. Craig Ferguson has the same demons of addiction and comedy running through him. Plus the intelligence. Everyone else is a difficult watch.

Russell and Stephen are both quite intelligent. Russell makes me piss myself sometimes and Stephen has some good moments too.

Yeah sorry to give the wrong impression here; I don't think Robin Williams was a dolt. He was a really smart well--read, sharp witted comedic innovator. Didn't mean to put him down here. I was more referring to his comedic persona in his appearances in these talk shows. I'm sure he could have talked about deep philosophic stuff and thrown around interesting quotes and dropping names but that was not his style.

On Russell Brand's sharpest day and Robin William's worst day...Brand doesn't stand an intellectual chance.

Whoever titled this needs help. Such deep insights. Experiencing an existential crisis inside of 2 minutes on a comedy show was not expected. I normally skip celeb interviews yet I clicked this. Did some underlying force of good in the universe subtly influence me so I would see it? Is Russell Brand my new favorite celebrity and possibly Jesus reincarnated? Solid maybe.

You ppl would accept any other jesus but jesus.....nonsense. The word of God already provided the ways of jesus and his holiness is not in this man....jesus is no joke and certainly not a confused searching man who is using profanity and showing signs of still being on drugs.smh

Why you don’t like his new age religion bullshit, is it because it doesn’t seem on its surface plausible. Or because you’re already a catholic or atheist so any new age religious celebration just seems like bullshit. I am only asking out of curiosity. I apologies if it seems like I’m calling you out

No we didn't. I don't cling, I partake on occasion. Life itself and all that comes with it, is plenty. To desire a creator, a purpose, or an afterlife seems to me nowt but selfish greed.
