That's great to know. For an entire CITY to give such love and reverence to an actor because of a movie he made almost 25 years ago, said movie must have been extremely well made and accurate to the time period it was in.
We, the citizens of Rome, watch hundreds of films about our city, we host countless important personalities. However, we are grateful and fond of Russel Crowe because he comes to visit us as a genuine person and not as a star. He is not the eighth king of Rome but a fellow countryman: I think it is a better recognition.
It's great to know that about him. And many actors (that I have personally interacted with) like the same in turn. To be treated like just another person on the street and not some deity. Mostly because once you're famous, your private life and everything "normal" goes out the window. So to know that Russel is one of those "Hey. I'm just a dude." actors is awesome.
@@ParticleLarry higher, 86. i imagine it has to be a money thing. dude made like 4 movies in the past 2 years, never takes a break & his output has largely gotten worse over time apart from a few exceptions.
@-LAH it's not money, he just likes working. The problem is that when you are a big name director you don't have any restrictions anymore. And with new technology you can literally do anything. This happens to every big director who made spectacle films in the past. Lucas, Spielberg, Jackson, Cameron, Zemeckis. They just go off the rails without anything to stop them from putting all their thoughts on screen.
Italian here...he portrayed so well the character, and what it means to care about the ideals of Rome, that all the people I know *CRIED* in that scene.... He deserves an honorary citizenship!
@@S3nn4h Many romans at that time were not born in Rome, but from other parts of the Empire/Republic...specially so in the army, where they recruited and promoted the best from the occupied territories, which included today's Spain, France and Germany.
@@allanjohnston5772 brilliant? It would be if it were true and he actually filmed in there... they didnt even film gladiator in Rome so why is he acting like he has this connection do to that movie because of his time there .. when in reality the rome shots were done on green screen and filmed on a soundstage in Malta hahaha
..I remember , was in Sydney for a year or so back in the day ,one morning on way to work going down escalator in metro station saw a poster for this movie called Gladiator , and the caption with it said ‘a hero will rise’.. didn’t know then that it would be my no.1 film of all time
The last night I spent in Rome, I was sitting on the steps of Fontana del Pantheon, eating gelato, unsuccessfully fighting back tears. That is the energy that place has. It is overwhelming. The sense of thousands of years of life, death, power, victory, defeat, generations built upon generations. The eternal city.
Russell’s voice and his talent for accents, mimicry are a great part of his acting. I could listen to his stories all day. I hope he finds a couple of great movies to finish out his career.
His accent Gladiator was terrible, great performance other than that. I liked him in Master and Commander but his accent was too unnatural and distracting, they should've dubbed him. He'd probably sound a lot better now tbh.
Who agrees that Russle Crowe gave one of the best acting performances ever in American cinema even Young Jauaquin Phoenix added massively to that movie that movie was pure magic truly.
@@Grandmastergav86 Funny, I first saw Gladiator recenty and preferred Phoenix's acting to Crowe's BUT even then I realized that i am viewing the film from a 2020s perspective and not 2000s.
I was blessed to live in Rome in 2000. For my friend's bday party we went ice skating then watched Gladiator and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. One of the best days of my life
'There was once a dream that was Rome. U could only whisper it, anything more than a whisper and it would vanish 🫰 It was so fragile... and I fear that it will not survive the winter. Maximus, let us whisper now, you and I'.
When I saw A Beautiful Mind I imagined the real 70-year old Crowe would look exactly like he did at the end of that movie. Now 23 years later it's already become a reality.
The Gladiator is a legendary movie here in Italy not only for Russel performance but for Luca Ward givin Him a legendary voice..Luca ward is Russel italian voice and he is like a goat, you must all just watch a scene of the italian version, specially the one when the gladiator take of the helmet and tell who he really is inside the Colosseo, Luca ward made it a literally Goated scene in all movies History
What a great actor. He's done some awesome movies that are great to watch over and over. Gladiator was a soul moving experience that is unforgettable. Still remember him in LA confidential when he was young.
This should be a lesson to all artists. THIS is the power that true art has on people. Deep love and respect. Especially when it depicts their history and culture in a positive light. Beautiful story.
One of those rare things seeing Gladiator in the cinema. I am glad I went and saw it on the big screen back in the day. I think that movie and Aliens actually had me on the edge of my seat.
Yeah I saw it in Sydney Australia on my gap year, I saw Galaxy Quest with Sigourney Weaver on the very same day in the morning in the same cinema, only time i have ever been to the cinema twice in one day
A friend of mine burned the Gladiator soundtrack on a CD, and I used to play it on rainy days while driving. It was perfect rainy day music and felt like I was in a movie.
When I was a cab driver in Banff, Alberta. Got a call to pick-up at the Picture Postcard House. Out came Russell Crowe, Burt Reynolds, Colm Meaney. The last name not known much. He was on Star Trek. I was blown away. They were making a movie called Mystery Alaska. Took them to a fancy restaurant and even got to take them back to the house. One of the highlights of my life.
"Before the taint the water" - I think he's very much aware how bad the new Gladiator movie will be. That's his true legacy. HIS NAME IS Maximus Decimus Meridius. Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the TRUE emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife.
He said "before that water is muddied", not as negative as tainted. I think he means for now he is the one and only gladiator, after the new movie he might have to share some of the gladiator star power with the next generation.
@@MichaelH1232every reboot is garbage until the people in Hollywood die or retire we will be getting garbage for the rest of the decade. No one will remember it most of these films we will just be happy when they all stop producing this crap
The sequel may be bad, but that's not what he's saying. Any addition, good or bad or neutral, changes the formula. Everyone's perception of Batman Begins changed when The Dark Knight released. Same for A New Hope when The Empire Strikes Back released. Same for the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies when No Way Home released. It's inevitable.
The Coolest thing about the Sistine Chapel is that Michelangelo signed it "Michelangelo Sculpture", because he fought the pope tooth and nail trying to get out of his contract, as he really didn't want to paint anymore.
Gladiator is one of my all time favorite movies but man, is Russell Crowe only capable of leading in a quality film? I think about the lead roles he's played and I enjoy every one of them, Cinderella Man, Proof of Life, Master and Commander, LA Confidential, 3:10 to Yuma, American Gangster, etc etc
I think he's an actor who tends to make even mediocre movies seem good. So yeah, in that sense. He has a habit of elevating whatever he's in. That's what star power is like; Tom Cruise is similar. I've seen movies with him in it where I'm like "I don't care about what is happening", but it never feels cheap or awful like... say... anything Bruce Willis did in the last 2 decades.
Imagine being in the colloseum and seeing Russel Crowe. It would be crazy if he even repeated his lines in the movie. "are you not entertained" and the whole amphitheater would go nuts lmao
i've seen gladiator so many times but everytime I think of something to watch it is still gladiator. i am 35 now. i watched it when I was a kid. i still remember how disappointed I was that he died. first tragedy movie for me and I still love it to this day
Rome is such a aweinspiring city. You can feel this place was the center of civilization and projected projected its power throughout. The ancient buildings are still mind-boggling and imposing even after 2000 years.
Russel's voice never stops to amazing me though, it is so soothing and so deep at the same time ... and he is genuinely funny story teller ... i would have loved to listen to some audio books read by him ... there is only one TRUE Gladiator !
I don’t think he intended it like that. By “muddied” he means that the focus on him will inevitably soften with the arrival of a new movie and new generation of players. He’s an influential industry figure and wouldn’t throw shade on a project that isn’t started yet.
Women and feminist were so bias when Russell Crowe's character was a strong masculine character. Its only toxic masculinity when its not on their terms. Woman in all walks of life want a man like in the film Gladiator.
@@TheAfterglowProject Gladiator is one of the greatest films in the last 30 years. Women were all aroused by his manliness and men wanted to be his character. This is the kind of man women still want today but dont even know they do
@@healer81 why are you saying all of this? Nothing in the video even hinted at what you’re talking about. Russel Crowe was talking about getting to see the Sistine Chapel alone with his kids.
@@TheAfterglowProject the gladiator film was so important to people because of his acting and how he carried the character. He captured the romantic idea of the pride mythos of the culture.
What is this comment? This video makes no reference to women or “feminism”. You’ve just ranted about something that’s a complete non-issue in the world. I hope you get help if this is your obsession
I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new Maserati or that vacation just yet. That mindset helped me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 30k in crypto and made about $246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded again and now I am rounding up close to a million.❤❤❤
Investing has proven to be an incredibly beneficial decision. My cryptocurrency profits continue to play a substantial role in growing my overall wealth, reducing my reliance on my salary...
The wisest thing that should be on everyone mind currently should be to invest in different streams of income that doesn't depend on government paycheck, especially with the current economic crisis around the world. This is still a time to invest in Stocks, Forex and Digital currencies.
I'm new to cryptocurrency and don't understand how it really works. how Can someone know the right approach to investing and making good profits from cryptocurrency investments?
As a beginner investor, it's essential for you to have a mentor to keep you accountable. Myself, I'm guided by Harvey Barrett FX, A widely known crypto consultant!
im seeing comments about the "dig" comment on the new gladiator movie... i didnt see it that way. I saw it as like him being replaced so he will lose his status to the italians if the new movie takes off and the spotlight would be on the new Maximus. Or am i wrong lol
Spot on. He knows that if Ridley Scott has gone back to it then it's likely to be a blockbuster because Scott has turned down multiple offers to direct a sequel over the last 20 years because the script wasn't good enough and didn't want to besmirch the original.
@justonecornetto80 Have you not seen what he has done to the Alien series lol? You seriously believe that this will be any different? All Ridley has made is piles of trash these past years. Prometheus/Alien Covenant/Napoleon and I honestly could care less about Romulus. So let's not act like Ridley has some sort of care about original works lol
He meant it as the second way but there is no way they would replace him because that movie looks like garbage. Ridley hasn't made a good movie in 20 years.
