Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC since 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called "the Doctor", an extraterrestrial being, to all appearances human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Its exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. Accompanied by a number of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes while working to save civilisations and help people in need.
The show is a significant part of British popular culture, and elsewhere it has gained a cult following. It has influenced generations of British television professionals, many of whom grew up watching the series. The programme originally ran from 1963 to 1989. There was an unsuccessful attempt to revive regular production in 1996 with a backdoor pilot, in the form of a television film titled Doctor Who. The programme was relaunched in 2005, and since then has been produced in-house by BBC Wales in Cardiff. Doctor Who has also spawned numerous spin-offs, including comic books, films, novels, audio dramas, and the television series Torchwood (2006-2011), The Sarah Jane Adventures (2007-2011), K-9 (2009-2010), and Class (2016), and has been the subject of many parodies and references in popular culture.
Thirteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation, a plot device in which a Time Lord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally. Each actor's portrayal is unique, but all represent stages in the life of the same character, and together, they form a single lifetime with a single narrative. The time-travelling feature of the plot means that different incarnations of the Doctor occasionally meet. The Doctor is currently portrayed by Jodie Whittaker, who became the first woman to play the role after Peter Capaldi's exit in the 2017 Christmas special "Twice Upon a Time".
The twelfth series of the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who premiered on 1 January 2020 and aired through to 1 March 2020. It is the second to be led by Chris Chibnall as head writer and executive producer, alongside executive producer Matt Strevens, the twelfth to air after the programme's revival in 2005, and the thirty-eighth season overall. The twelfth series was broadcast on Sundays, except for the premiere episode, continuing on from the eleventh series, after regular episodes of the revived era have previously been broadcast on Saturdays. The series was preceded by a New Year's Day special episode in 2019, "Resolution", instead of the traditional annual Christmas special.
Jodie Whittaker returns for her second series as the Thirteenth Doctor, an incarnation of the Doctor, an alien Time Lord who travels through time and space in the TARDIS, which appears from the outside to be a British police box. It also stars Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill as the Doctor's travelling companions, Graham O'Brien, Ryan Sinclair and Yasmin Khan, respectively. The series follows the Thirteenth Doctor and her companions as they meet a new incarnation of the Master and his destruction of Gallifrey, the return of Jack Harkness, the appearance of an unknown incarnation of the Doctor from before the Time War, the Cybermen, and the secret of the "Timeless Child".
The ten episodes were directed by Jamie Magnus Stone, Lee Haven Jones, Nida Manzoor and Emma Sullivan. Alongside Chibnall, who wrote four of the scripts and co-wrote a further three, the writers include Ed Hime, Pete McTighe and Vinay Patel, who return from writing the previous series, as well as new contributors Nina Metivier, Maxine Alderton and Charlene James.
The thirteenth series of the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who is set to premiere in 2021, after being announced in November 2019. The series will be the third to be led by Chris Chibnall as head writer and executive producer. This series is set to be the thirteenth to air following the programme's revival in 2005, and will be the thirty-ninth season overall. The series will consist of eight episodes.
Jodie Whittaker returns for her third series as the Thirteenth Doctor, the most recent incarnation of the Doctor, an alien Time Lord who travels through time and space in the TARDIS, which appears to be a British police box on the outside. Recording commenced in November 2020, and is set to run for ten months.

@@lio1234234 I sort of get that, but at the same one thing that I felt was missing from Davies' tardis is the feeling that it was more than just the console room. Matt Smith made that iconic joke in the 11th hour that he fell all the way into the swimming pool, but if you look at Davies' tardis, there isn't a doorway or way to get into any other room. The Eleventh Doctor's first one feels like a toy, it's too bright and clean, though I love the colours, the more obvious access to the corridors and the old gadgets like the drum pedal and the typewriter being on the console. The Eleventh Doctor's second and Twelfth Doctor's one are way too dark and just look like any old spaceship with a Tardis console in the middle, and the only thing about it I really like are the bookshelves and the orange colour scheme, and though I like the Thirteenth Doctor's made-of-random objects console, it's way too dark (Although this has improved over time), way too small and I don't like that the time rotor doesn't reach the ceiling. However, I do like that this is something that everyone has an opinion on, and I love that it's always changing around!

As much as I liked the coral themed, I still agree that Eleventh's second/capaldi's tardis designs gives it a more dark gothic theme that i feel went very well with capaldi's doctor's personality, for example his acting in the zygon inversion, mainly the speech. Chris Chibnall doing his thing, the unnecessary changing of The Doctor's gender and the preachy choked with WOKE writing has all but DESTROYED Doctor Who and left Russell T Davies with a monumental task of restoring it to it's former glory. Bringing David Tennant back as the fourteenth Doctor would be a major step in reviving the franchise as that would guarantee a massive surge in viewing figures by enticing the millions of lost fandom back.

@@2271graham Chibnall's writing is not woke. Woke is well-written characters with their own personal defining traits who just so happen to have some kind of woke influence - be it a gender flip for the doctor, or a gay/trans character; these are side attributions in woke writing, not the whole character. RTD did it a bit in Doctor who, and has continued doing it an awful lot in other shows since. And it will be in his new run. Chibnall's writing is not woke, it's attention seeking - specifically fishing for praise. Chibnall's writing is "oh look at me the doctor's a woman now, and also look we have gay characters!" and he seems to expect some kind of medal for it. The problem is his characters have few to no other defining traits. The doctor is just a woman. Yaz is just gay. They have no other characteristics. *That* is the problem.

"I had a bet- different TARDIS" 😂😂 this man casually flexing his era all the time and I can't blame him. A super fan being able to write for the show must be an incredible honour, let alone running the show. He took the show and did the seemingly impossible, reviving a show long since dead, bringing new life and style to it, making Doctor Who a household name for all the right reasons for the first time in decades. Russel faithfully brought back the show while transforming it and giving it a new coat of amazing paint. This guy made doctor who great again, and since then it's only grown, sure with a few bumpy patches in the road but with him back the show's becoming more popular than ever before. RTD is as much the life force of modern Who as he is a fan.

@@Kephy_ you're right, i am. And no, we are not a minority. You've just all chosen to ignore, or demonize us for not blindly following into this mess. There's a reason why chibnall's era has rapidly lost viewership during his tenure. The writing is far worse than anything moffat ever did. The acting is significantly worse. The controversy of the timeless child shattered this fandom, damaged the franchise. The nonsense meandering of flux wounded it further, and it will be a miracle if it survives. If you cannot see the divide just by this discussion alone, then your vision is blinded. I am not the greatest wordsmith, but there are channels you can go to that discuss this in far greater detail. It is worth it to at least listen to the perspectives of people who have been into this franchise far longer than you or i have been. And consider their thoughts and feelings before you cast them into whatever negative light you view them in.

Every fan said that RTD ruined the show because of the Time War in series 1. Same for Moffat because of River Song in series 6. RTD love the work of Chibnall, he said that a lot of time, and he won't "fix it", he will continue the story of the Timeless Child. No he didn't, when he handed the reins of showrunner to Steven Moffat, RTD when asked if he would consider returning stated it was unlikely unless the franchise was in trouble. The only reason he is back is to resuscitate Doctor Who from the almost TERMINAL damage inflicted on it over the past five years by Chibnall and Doctor KAREN Whittaker. If Doctor Who was in rude health RTD wouldn't have been back, he has only returned out of necessity.

@@xmachiavellirizex3540, there is just no getting through to people like you. 🙄 So are you saying that all the FEMALE Doctor Who fans who are against a woman Doctor and there ARE plenty of them are sexist as well? I take it you haven't BOTHERED reading any of my other posts about me wanting to see a Romana spin-off series? I always like to see strong lead female Sci Fi characters and Alien's Ellen Ripley, Battlestar Galactica's Kara Thrace and Star Trek's Katherine Janeway are my personal favourites. There was never any need to make a character who had been a MALE for all his previous thirteen regenerations female when the NO-BRAINER solution if Chibnall wanted a series set in the Doctor Who Universe about a female Time Lord was to bring Romana back. I still hope this is a route Russell T Davies will still go down and bring the disastrous female Doctor experiment to an end. As for Whittaker, I've spoken to people who thought she was good in Broadchurch but has been God AWFUL as The Doctor. One even remarking that if Chibnall wanted to make The Doctor a woman and he wanted to hire an actress from Broadchurch could he not have made it Olivia Coleman? Chibnall's preachy choked with WOKE garbage writing is definitely ONE factor in fans deserting Doctor Who in their millions but the unnecessary changing of The Doctor's gender is another. Russell T Davies' first priority has to be making The Doctor a MAN again and his second to retcon the Timeless Child and yes bringing David Tennant back as the fourteenth Doctor WOULD work as David's return would see viewing figures rocket and bring Doctor Who back from the brink.
