Russia is a country that has historically shown huge amounts of both power and influence across the world. However, it has done all of this in spite of its horrible geography. Russia's geography has, for a long time, limited the country's global influence.
Disclaimer: Midway through creating this video, I came across a video from Wendover Productions, posted 6 years ago, that discussed an extremely similar topic. It appears that he also used the same source that I used for some of the points I made in this video, so if some parts of our videos seem similar, that is the reason. I have no intention of plagiarizing anyone else’s work. The source I had in common with Wendover Productions is linked below:

Man, you probably have a full-time job, or perhaps you’re a student, but I seriously implore you to put more time into growing this channel. You have a talent for this. Your editing is smooth, your narration is clear, and above all else, the content is of top quality. You just need to upload more until you finally make the video that tickles the algorithm in just the right way to put you on the map. Remember, this is not a lottery. It’s a question of when, not if.

this comment is so nice, tysm! but yeah the reason i dont post too many longer videos is just cus they take too much time. i just turned 16 and dont have too much time to manage with school and everything, tryna maintain my 4.0 gpa. currently its just me making these videos, but if i ever hire some other ppl that would definitely speed up the process and make my posting more consistent

@@reedschultzgeo I figured you had something occupying the majority of your time, but I would have never guessed that you are 16. Wow. I don’t think you understand how natural you are at this, because your videos do not reflect how long you have been posting for, or your age, at all. To put it this way, I would say that the only two videos on your channel right now are miles better in terms of production quality and clarity than the oldest videos on channels like RealLifeLore and Wendover Productions. I’m not even exaggerating. Keep striving through your education by all means, but I hope the idea of one day making a career out of this channel is within your hopes. Not only is it possible, but actually inevitable if you get to a position where you can afford to post more consistently. I can already hear you telling me about your new series on Nebula in an outro.

@@reedschultzgeo no wonder you made a video titled Finland joining NATO checkmates Russia it's because Finland being able to join NATO would increase the amount of land on Russia's western most border that can be attacked by NATO if Russia went to war with non-NATO countrys also this would give NATO access to the Sea that Finland has control over to prevent Russia from escape into the Atlantic Ocean if another war then the Russian-Ukrainian war that's going on right now! On a side note because of the countries that you mentioned before you said Ukraine twice also means that the part of Russia that's a peace of old 1940's Germany is always going to be at risk of invasion because of being surrounded by countries that aren't neutral to Russia, and NATO if Russia went to war with a non-NATO country then that part of Russia would be the first part of Russia to get invaded by NATO to get Russia's attention to indirectly tell Russia that eather they have to pull them selfs out of the war, or be invaded by NATO, and become forced to surrender!

@@reedschultzgeo and Russia's economy might be super devastated, or possibly it might as well collapse once electric cars become more common, and/or cheaper than oil powered cars, and they become distributed to most of the world's poorest countries because then oil would become more expensive causing more people who are pretty responsive in terms of decreasing their carbon footprint to buy electric cars making oil powered cars, and oil prices to increase causing more people to prefer chapter electric cars over expensive oil powered cars creating a feedback loop that will cause oil powered cars to become near worthless, and putting the oil car making industry in jeopardy possibly causing the oil powered car industry collapse making Russia smaller if they don't change their resource selling markets to more environmentally friendly methods. 😅😅😅😅😅😅

i love videos like this that deep dive into the strategic value of geography and how it has impacted the world as a whole. it's like how western and eastern europe have very different historical and political backgrounds in large part due to their geographic location, with the baltics being a perfect place to fester wars and infighting and how the USSR collapsed and the aftermath of that. it's really fascinating to me how much geography plays a role in everything

The RU-vid algorithm treats channel as inactive if you don't post videos for more than 3 momths. That's why it is not getting recommended to people. Fun Fact: It was Russia who saved The Union during the American Civil War as they sent their Navy to San Francisco and New York when England and France were just about to enter the war on the side of the Confederates since London created the Confederates. France was already in Mexico making a spear head movement to resupply the Confederates and to open up a Pacific Theatre and to create a port in California. England already amassed 11,000 troops and growing stationed at their Northern Confederacies border now called Canada ready to open a Northern Theatre to divert Union troops away from their Southern Confederacy then to attack The Unions naval blockade. The Union would have been completely destroyed and annexed by those two great powers leaving the Confederates to exist as a puppet state of London. London was already courting (threatening/bribing) other countries to get involved like Spain while Russia was in talks with Prussia to ally with incase London was to intervene. Seeing all of this Tsar Alexander II wrote a letter to Queen Victoria saying “If you enter in this war it will be a casus belli for all out war with the Russian Empire”. The stage was set for the 1st World War and Russia stopped it. There is also a memorial in San Francisco for the hundreds of Russian sailors who came off their Asiatic fleet ships that died while helping the city put out a fire that threatened to lay waste to it during the War.

@@Vkusniashka1234 The Russian fleet also threatened to Shell Australian ports along with other British Pacific Colonies if Britain aided the Confederates. A confederate war ship spent a lot of time in Australian waters and was supported by the Australian public, some even signing on as crew members. This Confederate war ship laid waist to the US Pacific whaling fleet and is reported to have fired the last shot in the war. The name of the ship was called the CSS Shenandoah. Russia also helped Thailand (Kingdom of Siam) maintain its sovereignty from being completely Partitioned/Annexed from the British and French around the same time. The very word Thai (ไทย) means 'free man' in the Thai language which is partially to thank to the Russians as they might have ended up being a colony or part of another country/colony if not for their intervention.

The concept of European development was based on robbery. Because she could afford it. All coastal countries within the reach of European ships were controlled (to varying degrees, of course) by Europeans. As the capabilities of the Europeans grew, they moved deeper into the continents, and in a number of regions they retain influence to this day. Russia's closedness from the seas and strong neighbors, which made it impossible to rob, led to the fact that the Russian mentality became friendly, ready to negotiate, tolerant, easily assimilating foreign culture without losing its own, and most importantly - inventive, because it is necessary to make the most of limited resources

i know you're going to think this is a joke but, its not, Lenin has a lot of good writing on this if you're genuinely curious. i'd recommend his work Fourth Anniversary of the October Revolution, but there are lots of others online free to read. this is a very complicated topic that i doubt myself or anyone else could summarize well in a RU-vid comment on the off chance you're going to ignore this unless i give a shorter reply, the shortest description of this transformation is as follows tsarism in Russia caused intense contradictions to mount which led to revolts against feudalism, similar to others throughout the world for centuries. what made the Russian revolution unique was the ideology behind it, derived from German revolutionaries Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels. it led Lenin to writing his Thesis on National & Colonial Questions, which transformed Marxism explicitly into a tool of liberation for colonized masses throughout the world. this was the cause behind the name, Soviet Union, as it was a Union of nations previously colonized under 'the Great Russian'. after Lenin died, unfortunately ethnic chauvinism came more & more prominent. namely under Stalin, all government documents were regulated as to be in Russian instead of local dialects, which unsurprisingly created bad karma which came around to lead to reactionary separatist forces in the worst parts of the USSR, in eastern Europe (such as Poland). of course the main reason for the USSR's collapse was all-out imperial assault, but excluding the obvious this is worth note

the Ukrainian government cut off water access to Crimea over a year before the Russian occupation began. you can shut up now about it being "this or that" country. Russia has objectively not been responsible for attempting to kill the local population, unlike the Ukrainian government. borders change all the time throughout history & will in the future. its dogmatic, conservative nonsense to say otherwise

Russia's geography has hindered its dominance as a world power throughout history. Russia's flat western border, featuring the Great European Plain and the Eurasian step, poses a major defense issue, with major cities like St. Petersburg and Moscow located near the borders and vulnerable to invasion. Moscow has attempted diplomacy to strengthen its position, particularly with Belarus, but its limited access to the ocean remains a significant challenge. Major ports in the Black and Baltic Seas are ice-covered or controlled by NATO countries, making it hard for Russia to access the open ocean and expand its international trading capabilities. In addition, more than 65% of Russia's land area lies above the permafrost, limiting agriculture and population growth. Despite these challenges, Russia's vast oil and natural gas reserves have fueled its status as a global power. However, Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 led Europe to impose sanctions on Russian oil, prompting Russia to redirect exports to Asia.
