They left Romania in 1958, but it remained a harsh regime, especially after 1978. However, I think the Romanian communist regime was one of the most brutal in Eastern Europe.
Can't get over how badly the clothing styles worn by the Americans have aged. The baggy suit jacket and jeans really show the age of the clip. They were the latest fashions back then. Surprised how short the Soviet personnel were too...
It's unfortunate the former Soviet military couldn't remain unified under the Commonwealth of Independent States. The world might've been more stable today if that were the case.
@@tpartain sicher?
@@martinbitter4162 The Soviet Army technically existed until 1994ish. Double headed eagle didn't come into use until after the 1993 October Constitutional Crisis. Before then Russia still had a Soviet based constitution as well as a Soviet national emblem. Complete new uniforms would not be introduced until 1995. The only significant changes before 1995 was a sleeve patch with the Russian tricolour flag with Россия above it, in the case of the Navy, the blue crossed jack. ВС(VS), meaning Armed Forces was introduced on shoulder insignia on some uniforms already to replace the СА(SA), meaning Soviet Army. Though this styling had already been in planning in USSR times. I don't think the Soviet style uniforms were phased out until 2002. And still they are used by military schools as well as insignia being used by Donetsk and Lugansk forces.
East Berlin was no where near as lit up and new like west berlin...i was there in 1978. I wanted to go back to west Berlin right away. The place was not Pretty!
I’m confused- didn’t East & West Berlin cease to exist at the end of 1989, and then East & West Germany the year after? * Still a very cool video. I remember going thru Checkpoint Charlie as a kid to visit East Berlin- in 1986 and again in 1988
At the end of 1989, the borders between East and West Germany and East and West Berlin were opened, but they remained separate countries until German Unity Day on October 3, 1990. American, British, French, and Russian troops remained in the city until 1994.
