The last poet of the Silver Age
Anna Akhmatova witnessed (and took pat in) one of the most fascinating periods in the history of Russian culture and experienced perhaps the most terrible events in Russian history, and her personal life was largely affected by them. Yet she remained to her last day devoted to the art of poetry, and even writing about war and repressions she never got too political, keeping her lyrical voice and intonation, though she was severely criticized by Communist party officials as a representative of "art for art's sake".
In this video you will learn some facts from her biography and even hear a few lines of her poetry. Language level B1 and above.
