not a headscarf. More like a cloth to prevent the sweat from running down from head to your eyes and distract you. Very useful in combat situations in a hot climate.
The Soviet army was not needed, so it was almost not supplied and did not pay a salary. Mr. Putin began building a new bourgeois army, whose combat readiness he tested in the second Chechen War.
Thats because the russian army couldn't provide a proper uniform for there soldiers dude , couldn't even feed there soldiers properly, in the 1990s 20 to 30% of the men were illiterate they could not write there own name, they couldn't read or write well , in the 70s and 80s it was double that , they had to have men stood at major intersections in the russian german sector in germany to point logistics in the right direction because they couldent read the russian road signs . Plus the majority of russian trucks were broke down on the side of the road due to bad maintenance. The Russian army is a joke , the good thing they have is nuclear weapons and maby even they would malfunction due to under funding and bad maintenance.
@@snb333 VSR was the most prevalent camo pattern on M88 style uniform (afghanka) in both first and second Chechen wars, which was probably the last pattern the soviets designed. Flora camo was starting to replace it during the second war, but it still used the M88. The MVD troops(now- Russian National Guard) had varying camo, and uniform types that were made anywhere from late soviet right up to the second Chechen war by private firms, which is why quality was never very consistent. The Soviet stuff is long lasting, (even the disposable KZS over-camo), which is why it’s still used today by donbass rebels and non western former Soviet territories. If a lot more Russian conscripts are needed, the stockpiles of soviet uniforms will more than suffice compared to the constantly shifting uniforms fabricated for profit in the west. Even the Ukrainians are raiding their own(some would also say even their Transnistrian neighbors as well) Soviet stockpiles in absence of the ‘latest/greatest’ western gear/weapons.
I believe Russia was the last country along with the eastern ex-soviet states to use jackboots and foot wraps. Painful as hell for long marches, but built to last.
There's actually one video that is much closer, but cameraman and other people literally almost blew up, search for "Accidental firing of a helicopter during an exercise" there's 2 recordings from a camera and one from the cockpit of the heli itself
Genuine WW2 combat footage is enough. But genuine WW1 combate footage is a rarity because of camera technology back then. Very limited with what you can do, so either filming from afar or from a safe position would catch whatever is going on. But there are photos of it.

Whats sad is the chechens asked the west for help and were completely ignored. The west didnt do shit about it. No type of aid or reply at all. They got through the first russian invasion but russia came back 2x. Till they finally took over.

@@jakeeves5935 after the 70s and 80s the AK-47 and AKM were already out of use, the infantry got their hands on the AK-74 chambered in 5.45x39, although the scouts and reconnaissance, and engineers and other forces like paratroopers and maybe Spetsnaz were using the more recent AKMS, an AKM with a underfolder stock while the East Germany, it was the complete opposite the main infantry was still using the MPi-K german copies of the AK-47 with 7.62x39, however other forces like paratroopers were using the 5.45x39 versions also the Polish later had made their own AKs, the wz.96 Beryl, that are chambered in 5.56 like the AK-101
@@jakeeves5935 It's an AKMS. The AK74S doesn't have an underfolding stock on it, and that mag is a 7.62x39 mag. The AK47 was quickly ditched for the AKM in the 50's, so there aren't many actual milled AK47's floating around out there compared to the number of stamped steel AKM's in the world.
Do you know how the bakelite mag became the color it is today they were actually yellow but what happened was the story is they got stored in a Russian warehouse and changed color overtime to a more reddish color..
Good quality footage. Much of the Chechen war footage is terrible quality having been on tape which had degraded over the years. Some of these young guys now in their 40s might be fighting in Ukraine 22 years later.
Don’t know about that pal, depending on whether this was the 1st or 2nd Chechen war or the war in Dagestan, it’s highly likely most of these soldiers are young lads conscripted into army with only a few weeks of training or less.
They still are. They have to rely on mercenary help (foreign and domestic), prisoners and have scammed people from other countries to fight for them in Ukraine 😂

Its amazing what Russia can do with so little money . I have seen videos of the early 2000s and 90s. Very interesting to see what a big country can do to defend itself. People really dont understand the amount of money, fuel, logistics is put into just a simple 2 week field problem training for us! even for 1 month training is so much money. Money and resources is really behind many modern army ops. Russia on the other hand was fighting home grown terrorism for decades! that takes allot of resources even a small operation. I see very little armor on the soldiers.
Especially when you consider that almost all the weapons the Chechens have are Russian, sold to them by corrupt Russian generals, for their own profit.
Why are you talking about a country and a topic you know nothing about??? I know Russia and they have budget for military, there isn t only the US that has a military and having been for 2 years in the army, check in what conditions where their opponents, with khalachnikovs and without any long range artillery. Sound like a 12 years old boy playing call of duty and don t know what kind of video game
Russia historically had huge success with producing military above it's limited resources. Starting with so-called "orientalization" of army in late 15th century. Which essentially jump started modern Russia. On another hand US military budget is a black hole of corruption and waste (not that US military is bad, it just costs far more than it should). So direct comparison between such polar opposites is indeed baffling.
