This is just like the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, the Germans were trapped on all sides, by British, American and Soviet forces and they wanted to break-out of the encirclement, so they deployed all their remaining Armour. Yes, American forces were captured, but the British, under Montgomery, quickly surrounded the Germans and destroyed their Armour. The affect of all this was to leave Berlin without strategic reserves to defend Berlin and the Soviet forces rode straight into Berlin.
They did technically still have 3rd and 9th Panzer left and chose to counter attack Soviets at Budapest. There's an old joke about it German soldiers said we call it 3rd Panzer because we have 3 tanks...make that 2nd Panzer

This Kursk offensive seems eerily similar to Russia's kharkiv offensive. Just like russia, many villages were taken in a few days, and then the city arrived. Seems like another Vovchansk to me. Even geographically it reminds me of Vovchansk.
but Ukraine does not have powerful firepower like Russia, which means they can lose a lot of people and need to retain a lot of manpower to compensate against Russian firepower. sorry I wrote it wrong, I just wrote it with the help of a translator
Thing is, the Russians can extend the frontline as much as they want since they got the manpower to do so, the Ukies on the other hand are already scraping the barrel to just hold the existing lines. Those troops now getting thrown towards Kursk are the ones formerly stationed along the Belarussian border as identified by the white triangle on their vehicles, problem is that this posting was the cushy job all the people bribed themselves into who couldn't get completely exempt from the mobilisation meaning the quality of the troops will be rather subpar. The last few days they rode a wave of surprise and being faced with little more than border patrol and police units but now they are meeting the experienced and well rested army group _North_ which has been assembled around Kursk to either support the Vovchansk push or counter exatly such an incursion...

@@immrfunnot a great analogy. The circumstances are too different I think. The Russians have gotten their shit together and that why this has been such a big deal. They aren’t the same army as they were. The slow pace is an attempt to slow casualties by keeping the forward forces under the cover of air and artillery
I'm genuinely confused with the AFU assault into Kursk. I agree that it might accomplish some objectives of creating a better position on the negotiating table if it can be held for any time whatsoever; however, it has many more risks than rewards for them. If Russia really wanted to send a message, one of the options is the deployment of nuclear artillery. Yes, it's on Russian soil, but that's exactly where they said they'd use their arsenal. It kills lots of Ukrainians, it sends a message that Russia isn't bluffing with its promises to use nukes, and it could possibly send the AFU running back to the border in panic. Further, where's the international justification to retaliate? It's Russian soil, being used as a defensive measure.
Why would they nuke their own territory instead of Ukrainian territory behind the frontlines? It just makes any advance into Sumy much more difficult if they have to go through irradiated land.
Everything that the Ukrainians do to Russia is considered fair game by the West. The Ukrainians wouldn't have gone with this plan unless NATO had agreed with it. This is like going all in, in order to last before the November US Elections cause Ukraine's other Fronts are either crumbling or they're withdrawing to more defendable positions further West.
I just love how pro-ukraine propaganda channels viewed this PR stunt as if the Russian military is losing badly. Heck, I came across one of their videos with the thumbnail having the words "Russia Collapse"

@@oleksii_klochko Sorry, you don’t know the history behind what happened in Ukraine: the Western coup 2014, the breaking of Western promises to not expand NATO East, the failure of the West to implement the Minsk Accords, the plan to put nuclear missiles in Ukraine which was the red line Putin warned against. Then there was still the Istanbul Peace treaty in Feb2022 all agreed to until Boris Johnson showed up and told Zelenskyy “NO!”
What people haven’t mentioned is russia has security territorial security agreements with so many countries. Now those countries could be forced into the war against Ukraine giving Russia more weapons and troops haha 😂
If you mean the CSTO, that organisation is a joke and pretty much every time something kicks off it's followed by a refusal of everyone else to get involved. Plus half the countries in it hate ruzzia. I doubt that any agreements cover offensive wars either.
AFU: "Our defensive positions are getting annihilated in the Eastern front." Also AFU: "Lets open a new front and put defensive positions in enemy territory, that will surely work"
Russia: lets draw Ukrainian troops away from the front and establish a buffer in Kharkiv! Russia: looses thousands of men in a failed offensive, tying more of its troops down to hold on to what they have, then get invaded by Ukraine.
@@notquam8672You are in such a deluded fairytale, have you not even watched these videos? I doubt you have. The “offensive” in Kharkiv was there to divert the rather limited Ukrainian manpower, and it has been shown to be effective. As for the offensive into the Sumy region.. it’s a completely suicidal move. They barely have the manpower to actually consolidate these gains, let alone hold on to them against an enemy with a much superior force in firepower and manpower. Don’t be so ignorant.
Much like Germans at Battle of the Bulge where they took forces from the eastern front to make offensive - by taking those forces away, Germans lost large swathes of territory in the east.
There's no point the AFU digging in. If they can't hold positions on the Donbass front they have no hope of holding positions in the Kursk region. What a waste of manpower and resources.
Small units can only get you so far. The advances we've seen were sabotage groups who were firing whatever vehicles they saw, including civilians creating chaos. Now that the things slowed down, these groups are being targeted as the reserves cannot reach the "frontlines".
Not really. Ukes are trying to break out their surrounded men. Russia could've just pulled back to better defend. Russian doctrine allows trading of land I can't believe people still can't get this.
Don't trust any casualty reports until the war is over. Ukraine claims that Russia's losses amount to about 580,000 dead, so according to the rules for calculating military losses, Russia should have about 2 million wounded. And this is an extremely high figure. Even for the United States, this would be an economic problem for many years, just imagine that 2 million citizens in your country will stop working, but they need to be restrained, because they are military and everyone needs to have an expensive operation, because he is wounded. How much will it hit the country's economy? So I don't believe Ukraine and Russia in their reports about enemy losses. The Media zone report seems to be the most realistic. It says that Russia lost about 60 thousand KIA, Ukraine - about 57 thousand KIA. Such losses are not a critical blow to the economy, but they are tangible. And this is consistent with the IMF's forecast that Ukraine and Russia have a "selective default" rating.
Ukraine seems to operate just like Israel I wonder why that is. "If my allies don't bend and give me everything I want I will make their lives miserable by every means". Hell Israel holds USA hostage by threatening nuclear war and even having nukes pointed at DC
They could've closed off the tap on their own territory. The Urengoy - Pomary - Uzhgorod pipeline indeed goes through Sudzha, but it continues into the Sumy Oblast' as well. Not to mention that such a move could anger a few European countries, including but not limited to my own homeland, Hungary. We already had disputes about oil and gas with them, and if it turns out that they've done it just to claim force majeure, then we will respond with our own measures, which may or may not include a military response. Anyways, as a former member of the Army reserves, I'll answer when the Homeland calls.
I think this Kursk offensive will prove to be an absolute disaster in the near future, the Ukrainians are now moving and in the open and seem to be losing a lot of armored vehicles, also there are no minefields to protect them and they don't have any fortified positions, logistically it is also going to be very hard for them to maintain their gains.
I think Russia delayed this summy offensive too much . I wish they had invested much more in kharkiv and summy. In the flip side this motivates tge Russians even more and in a few weeks the Ukrainians will be crying
I don't know about few weeks in advance, but as of now Russian citizens are those who are crying all over the internet and rightfully so, since they were betrayed by their own government and military. That's probably why RF slowed down RU-vid, so other citizens from RF don't see how desperate are citizens in Kursk region.
I think theres more complex things going on behind the scenes. Putin knows that NATO is itching for a way to get in. Just like the Iran situation they sense Israel/USA WANT a big response. They need a war because their economies are crumbling.
Invading Russia is a bad idea. Why? A lot of Russians lowley don’t agree with their own government invading Ukraine. Meaning only few are enthusiastic joining their war and many fighting halfheartedly due to lack of motivation. What Ukraine did here is not only unite the whole Russian population but also gave them a reason to fight and join the war effort.
I don't think so weeb, rybar posted a series of maps showing that Ukraine is snaking and capturing more territory. The reserves still aren't enough to contain every Assault.
Sounds like the Russian reinforcement convoy needs its own reinforcement convoy, needs its own reinforcement convoy, needs its own reinforcement convoy, needs its own reinforcement convoy...
Dang that's what happens when you attack a neutral front with no soldiers. When they start arriving all that progress you thought you'd make comes full circle
If Ukraine has advanced in Russia, it can also move its air defence units closer to the front as well. So it won't be easy for Russian aviation to operate!
