The history lesson was a tad boring but he was leading to his point. Tucker was almost childish at points, asking for the release of that journalist was overstepping his bounds to me, you could tell Putin was thrown off with that and gave a great answer.
@minermike61
@minermike61 8 месяцев назад
I would have thought Tucker would know better than to ask for the release of the journalist but, in light of how over here they are already talking about espionage or not letting return home, that might have had a bearing. I understand the reason for the history lesson. Putin rightly guessed that most of the USA and likely the rest of the world, really don't understand who Russia is and how they came to be. It just isn't taught in American schools. What for right? My own brother has tried to make claims about Russia that just aren't true and he is conservative. A sizeable portion of Ukraine speak Russian and consider themselves at least connected if not Russian.
@markseehawer3762

This make me wonder who are better off right now, Russians or western nations. Putin might be corrupt but you can't deny his loyaltiy to Russia. Putin is NO dumby either. THe US government along with the EU needs to take a look in the mirror. They are not inocent in this conflict. they are the provoateors. End of rant. I hope you don't mind.

@toresaetre7793
@toresaetre7793 8 месяцев назад
There are several ways to look at Tuckers asking for release. Now, it is of course how Putin answered. That the question should be negotiated the normal official way. But! Let's say he had complied with Tuckers request. Now Tucker would of course score some big points on it, but most likely would also Putin. But then again, this interview will spread like wildfire regardless, and Putin does give a good impression already, so maybe not much to gain for Putin.

What surprised me was how Putin suggested that it was like a civil war. I said right at the start of the war that you should be very careful about getting involved in a civil war. It is simply not appropriate. Can you imagine if I was around when the American civil war was happening... a Scottish guy interfering in internal matters of another sovereign nation. Wow! These days people are expected to take sides on everything. Sometimes it just isn't right. If I have an opinion or a side, I'll happily take it.. although freedom of speech and expression isn't what it used to be, but if its not my fight then to be perfectly honest... Knock yourselves out guys.. its nothing to do with me.

May I add my two cents worth even though I am a nobody. I waited with great anticipation for this interview. The great expectations I had were somewhat shaken, not at all by President Putin but by Carlson. Right from the beginning I felt Carlson sat behind a firewall of his Americanness. His frown was unending! He was therefore unable to really connect in a way which would have made the interview so much more as he missed many opportunities to expand on a subject. Instead he jumped around and you could see President Putin laugh as I think he was surprised at the redirection of the subject. I felt Carlson was just on the edge of rudeness. Where was the handshake, the appreciative greetings which I thought were rather abrupt and cursory. I dont think Carlson quite got the fact that a Russian is not a simple form of a reduced American!! Putin can be extremely warm, humorous and he is very correct, not to mention his intellect which is way above most others. I would now like to see Carlson interview Biden for two hours with a similar range of questions. Then, put them up side by side -with President Putin- and let the world see the truth. May God continue to walk with Russia, protect her and bless her. ☦☦
@Kavala76

In case you were not aware, Carlson has some behavioural idiosyncrasies. One is his odd laugh and the other is the "frown" you referred to. I would not read over-much into either. It's just the way Carlson is.

Hi Larry, thanks mate for your perspective. I have something of a head scratch, and thats Tucker was surprised by this? Its hard to believe that he really didnt engage on the level in which Putin was trying to give Tucker a clear backdrop in which Tucker, failed to follow along and ask actual questions. i feel tucker may have missed this opportunity to really dig into to more complex issues. Im based in Australia, but originally from NZ, and even we know the historical background of US foreign policy. Infact, we see this exact agenda seeping into our countries. Its terrifying, to think, all americas or at least most believe the indoctrination that China and Russia is bad. US in most part is responsible for almost every financial recession and collapses in which our countries get absolutely decimated. Where, China and Russia are no where near our thoughts of Risk. would love to know your thoughts. cheers mate

Even when Vivak was on the trail, he kept mentioning Russia and China. Even that confused me, perhaps thats the model politicians use as a scare factor, but over here. If china shat the bed, we are in serious trouble in terms of exports and our imports. We couldnt afford to loose china, because of our reliance on them as a customer. we have 27 million population and they have over a billion. Nz has about 7 million. Its a scary concept the US continues to portray them in such a way.

You make a good point. My take on it is that Tucker Carlson was in an impossible situation. He needed to seem tough, but he also needed to be fair. Add to this the fact that he was on Putin's turf. That matters. I mean, do you ask a guy like Putin about his arrests and assassinations of political rivals when you're sitting with him in the Kremlin? Probably not. Tucker had no way of knowing where the interview would go. I do not consider myself a gifted interviewer. But I have learned this: almost any interview with someone you have never met starts out awkwardly because you are both trying to get the measure of each other. You're seeking a rhythm, so to speak. As such, I always try to have coffee or something with the person I am going to interview before I actually interview them. It gets you beyond the initial introductions. Point is, if TC had had the opportunity to chat with Putin over lunch, say, this would have been a better interview. He more or less says that after the fact when he says he later concluded Putin was sincere. I think it took the full two hours for TC to get a read on Putin. That's normal.

Thank you Larry, for your clarification and confirmation. About Putin giving an honest history lesson out of the box. For me it added creditably to the putin and the interview. I think the current Russian history (from ww2 forward to today) is a lot more complex than are able to get into in a public interview. American and Russian intelligence have been playing cat and mouse since the end of ww2. The American ruling class has always needed a boogeyman. Ours was russia until 9/11. Looks like the global ruling class (devos). Put Russia back on the top of their list. While using the Ukraine as a laundromat funnel. Because I believe Putin's numbers were low. In regards to money given to ukraine. America was way out in front giving money to ukraine. Germany must have stepped it up. Because the uk was 2nd behind the usa. If I heard correctly Putin mentioned in the billions. Today the total amount given to Ukraine has to be up in the neighborhood of 1.75 trillion . Not taking into account the military hardware being sold on the black market. I was hoping they would touch on the global agenda. Because Putin is no globalist (Russia first. Lol ). That might have been some common ground. Between Trump (America first ) and Putin (Russia first ) gave them a place to start. Lol. Because I still say Putin flipped sides (from the west to the east) just before Russia went into ukraine. Which was the better move for russia. But they never went there. Have to agree with you. The wars going on today are bidens wars. Far cry from Wilson's war. lol

The first American commentator that I have ever heard mention the critical issue of Russia’s naval port at Sevastopol…and who controls the access to the great trading rivers of the Dnieper and the Don. The idea that a military alliance of 30 countries with no enemy other than Russia…a country with a population about the size of Mexico…has been moving to encircle and isolate Russia ever since the fall of the USSR would explain the war in Ukraine all by itself. Putin had no option in the end. The US had moved heaven and earth to ensure that he had no option…hoping for a knock out blow and Russia; disintegration. Surprise!

Carlson actually displayed a touch of American limited attention span when given the history lesson, i think he forgot that this was for the audience as well as himself and he didn't actually let Putin finish it... it was as if he was trying to appear 'tough' to his own audience rather than a walkover... altogether he did well except the prisoner business which again seemed to be more about Tucker standing for the American people, a calculated question... Putin actually took it well when Tucker tried to say that the guy was obviously not a spy...

I have never been particularly interested in history or politics nor very good at either, but everything said here was already very clear to me, and I believe to be correct. What I can't understand is why it isn't clear to everyone, given my very limited knowledge.

I got the impression Tucker was out classed a bit based on Tucker’s interviewing style by asking media driven questions rather than actual behind the scene realities. It didn’t work well for him. I also got the impression Putin started laying the groundwork in regards to Poland and the future of Ukraine. I mean, his special operations are focused East of the Dnieper River and of course southern Ukraines coast which would be a death blow to Ukraine but a buffer zone for Poland. It has to be obvious to us all this war is more about weakening Russia because of our alliance with Israel and their influence in our state department over Syria and Iran so let’s not forget the geopolitical nature to what’s going on here. We see leftists championing South Africa’s stance against Israel but let’s not forget they are now part of BRICS so there’s a lot going on here. And let’s face it, the mastodon in the room here is China. China can prop up Putin indefinitely over land rights in the far east until the West implodes Just like in WWII when the West was willing to liquidate their Allie’s for the benefit of Stalin, the same can be said about who will benefit in this when it’s over. And that my friends is China by default. 😂

Loved it when Putin asked, “Is this a talk show?” Tucker is a jovial guy. Most journalists pose as intellectuals. Tucker doesn’t bother putting on airs. Putin is more formal, strategic, cautious, guarded having dealt with America’s corrupt politicians for many years.

Larry, I know what you are saying is true. Putin laid out his predictable argument, which will play well with all the uneducated-college-educated youths (defined here as those under 40.).

If you have, as you say, studied Russian and Ukrainian history, then please would you give thought to producing a video in which you go over each of the historical references which Putin made and explain or expound on them a little more, because this would really help us to understand a little more clearly how the Russians think about this matter.

3:53 "there have been people sent to Siberia for claiming the Norman Theory is true" Yes, and in Sandormokh, there is a historian sent to prison over a fake charge of child pornography, for saying the Red Army did the massacre of Sandormokh, rather than blaming the Finnish occupation. Whether Putin withdraws one reason to consider truth sayers as earning a ticket to captivity, or not, he is not giving up the overall tactic, which is arguably a heritage from the Tatars.
