Thats is a beatiful gun. How i regret selling my first ak wich was a 21" Saiga in 223. Had i not i would have a 762X39, 223 & 308 Saigas. Yours is the First one I see converted with a bho.
I've also did a .223 Saiga conversion, although I went with a MI railed gas tube, AR buffer tube buttstock adaptor, Magpul grip, and a Magpul Zhukov handguard. Of the magazines I've tried were at first Promag, then the SGM, and finally Zastava .223 mags (also in order of ok to best mag). I tried several different .223/5.56 AK mags to include Galil mags. Only the first three would lock AND feed ammo period. I removed the bolt hold open because it seemed to rub the web of my hand raw and wear through gloves.
So while at the range i found that you are correct. The Promag mags worked but were difficult to lock in and made it tougher to pull the charging handle back to chamber a round. But they worked. The SGM mag was much better in all ways. I have yet to try a Zastava mag.
@@bigdipperdefense2655 I didn't mention it to be a "I told you so", only it was my experience with the different mags and I also purchased ten mags each with each try (cost me quite a bit when added up), although the Zastava mags weren't on the market until several years later. They locked up nice and tight without being hard to lock in place and the last round bolt hold open was nice. The bolt does go forward upon removing the mag. My Saiga has eaten all the ammo I've put through it from brass to steel and 40gn HP to 70gn OTM.
Not really a conversion with the bolt on trigger guard and handguard retainer, this is also a dimple receiver saiga so you should get this thing converted to the real Russian side folder on Russian parts. I’m working on a 102 on my saiga 223 now
You can always go that route, but it weakens the receiver quite a bit. Because you have to drill extra holes in the receiver and rivet it. The bolt on handguard retainer is required if you're using the original gas block. If you're re-barreling, you can use a traditional one. But everyone has their own preferences. That trigger guard is so much tougher and better looking in my opinion. The labor costs are about double going that way also, plus i wasn't concerned with having it 100% all Russian parts.
I can get you a better deal than what he offers on the website. Im an official dealer for him. He's the best! Please email me at bddcustomercare@protonmail.com. Then I'll give you my number & we can talk about it!
@@bigdipperdefense2655 , So Do I.... Have to be the best AK's built in my opinion.... Heavy barrels and receivers.... Saiga's were 350.00 n Vepr's 550.00.. During the Trump years still bought Vepr's from Atlantic Firearms for 699.00 and with 20" barrels.... I'm in NC n use CSS for parts.... What's the name of the guy you used for your builds if you don't mind telling me.. Got a Saiga I want some work done.... Does he have any of either brands I could possibly get even though I have a stash of both.. Never have enough of them, LoL.. subbed ya.. be well and Keep America Great 👍. MB.
Nice conversion. Do you know if barrel was already threaded under that sleeve it came with or did they have to thread it. Also, did they do a bullet guide ?
Bill Jenkins, it did not have the front sight block originally. Your right. The FSB was added & comes with the threads for the muzzle device. Thank you.
Because ive had many rifles worked on and i was mistaken. I knew it had work done on the front end, and i guess i just got this one confused with one of the other rifles that ive had converted upgraded & sold.
