👨🏾‍🦳🇧🇯🇷🇺 People call him ’Russian Obama’, though he has more in common with Morgan Freeman as in ’The Shawshank Redemption’ story...
...Haven’t subscribed yet? 🤔 Well, please do and grab your popcorn, because we’ve got a new cool video for you!
Meet Jean Gregoire Sagbo from Benin Republic, a foreigner in Russia and the first black deputy here! 😱
🇷🇺 Jean Gregoire is 64, he’s spent most of his life in Tver region with his Russian wife Svetlana and their son. Their story is so outstanding that it is worthy of a movie script! Jean Gregoire was a student in Russia when he met Svetlana. Despite the notorious ’friendship of peoples’ in the USSR, this couple had tough times. Svetlana openly tells about the racism 😱 which Jean Gregoire faced in the Soviet Union. Svetlana herself was severely persecuted for being in an interracial relationship: her parents were members of the Communist Party and opposed such a union. To make matters worse, Svetlana was expelled from the university, just because of her relationship with Jean Gregoire! 😢
🇧🇯 Then, with a baby in their arms already, they left for troubled Benin, where Jean Gregoire was suddenly accused of participating in the planning of a coup! 😱 He spent 2 years in prison, in shackles ⛓️ and was tortured in a bid to extract a confession from him. His wife and their child spent six months in Africa, without knowing the language, and later returned to the USSR. Eventually, Jean Gregoire managed to escape prison 🔥 and for the next 20 years, he lived in Russia. He couldn’t return to Benin to see his family as he was considered to a traitor. He was only able to visit his homeland after the change of power in the Benin Republic.
💼 Jean Gregoire started a business in Russia in the 90s, a small shoe store. However, his social activities and desire to help people got him into politics. The residents of the village where he lived motivated him to announce his candidacy to vie for a local legislator seat. This is how an African expat in Russia Jean Gregoire Sagbo became a deputy!
What was life like for a black guy back in Russia, in the 90s and 2000s? What were the most surprising stereotypes about Russia and Africa? How did Jean Gregoire manage to escape from the Benin Republic prison? Why did he decide to pursue a political career, and what has he benefited from it? Watch our new video to find out! 🎥

The 90s were terrible and difficult for all inhabitants of Russia, not only for blacks and Asians (they just attracted attention more than others, stood out from the crowd), many people were embittered, aggressive, dissatisfied, the country was in chaos, lawlessness, there were many criminal groups, mafia, which divided markets, profitable business, in the struggle for which they shot each other, corrupted the police, politicians, and those who did not agree were killed, skinheads appeared, who decided that the cause of all their troubles were foreigners of non-Slavic appearance, not only black people. In short, anger, aggression, hatred, indignation, overwhelming many people in those dark times, found a way out in different ways. But with the arrival of Putin, this hell ended, he brought the country and the population to their senses. Glory to him!

The problem with black students in the USSR was that they made children for their girlfriends and then returned to Africa. Therefore, such relationships were condemned. This doesn't change the other terrible stories, it's just a fact.

@@i8Hardcore Could the fatherless babies be because families were making it hard to accept the fathers?
@i8Hardcore
@i8Hardcore 4 месяца назад
@@RastaAfricanGentleman Yes it is possible. This is how my grandmother left her first husband because he was Ossetian and she was Ukrainian - and his family did not accept her, she had to run away with the child. But I’m talking about a problem where no one intended to start a family; often they already had a family in their homeland: some expected to live in two families, others simply did not think about the consequences. And this problem was systemic. This is why this relationship was frowned upon. Is it logical to ban marriage? I do not think so. But on the other hand, joining the Komsomol was voluntary; in theory, these people were the face and moral guide of society: they had to set the tone, and not themselves participate in relationships that are notorious among the people, since in 90% of cases this turned out to be a fiction and factory of fatherlessness. While students joined construction brigades in the summer for good money, Komsomol students often volunteered and carried out major repairs of public transport, for example. I may be wrong, but I believe that at first relationship with African students began to have a bad reputation, and then it was banned for Komsomol. In general, these marriages were not prohibited, and this couple entered into it. This video is just a clear example of why this system was a crap. And the hero of the video is a very bright character: very decent and very strong. He is much better than the average person in any country.

Russians were always quite welcome. The problem was when the destruction of the Soviet Union started. Poor people are angry, especially because people from the Caucasus came and searched for opportunities to make fast money. People became a lot more racist against different looking people. Russians generally don't care about minorities, whether it's Russians in Chechenya, Chechens in Russia, Russians in Tuva, Tuvans in Chechenya etc., worst case, everyone has their own region, so its not mixed like in the US. People care even less since the situation calmed down and some wealth returned to Russia.
