Russian PMK 3 Gas Mask Review 

I remeber when this mask was requested a long time ago. It makes me happy knowing that the design has been improved.

If you coat the straps and head harness in silicone spray for rubber, then they become 1000 times easier to adjust and much quicker to put on your head, also preserves the straps and the rubber.

The screw on that accepts these filters is called Bayonetnaya (bayonet type of systems)

I got my PKM2 and it fits perfectly on my head and it feels really comfortable on my face the only downfall I had was putting the filter in it was a pain but further than that GREAT MASK!!!

The little plastic bit on the filter is to direct air inside the mask. This is kind of a stand-in for a Tissot system, as it directs air to flow between the inner rubber flap and the lenses. Has to be done the right way though. Assuming you're setting the mask up for a right handed person: 1) Plug in the filter (or the 40mm adapter) on the left side with one of the four square tabs pointing towards the left lens. 2) Attach the plastic air redirection bit so it points towards top and left (10-11 o'clock position), if you view the mask from the inside. For a left handed person, the process is mirrored.

Try using the manual and tape measurements to adjust the mask properly to your size. The mask is meant to set up once and then used in that configuration. The thick seal is there to assure proper seal even if the mask is not placed on properly.

The bit on the inside is to keep it more sturdy and deflect the air path

There's a reason why some branches still use ShM style masks

There's a PMK bayonet to GOST adaptor missing in your package. My PMK-2 have one of this. I think the mask works in different "mode" . With both adaptor it offer a quick changing of bayonet filter(But the filter will be sticking very far). Remove the bayonet adaptor is the GOST mode. These two mode are for the bad situation that you don't know how long you should wear it. Or even don't know what type of filter are in supply. Then the "Cheek Filter" mode provide the best slim profile and center of mass in the cost of filter changing. For a scheduled operation.

Do you source your goods locally or on the internet ? Because I saw your videos and it made me invest in the Israeli civilian gas mask w/ NATO filters. It’s pretty nice and serves it’s purpose well.

I never liked the shape of the eye pieces, they look weird. I prefer the eyepieces of the older models. BTW, have you found anywhere where you can get you hands on a PMK-2 to review?

How the hell do I use the pmk 3 straps

I could be wrong, but I'd assume one of the benefits of the new filter type, is that you don't have to fiddle with a screw? I found it to be uncomfortably easy to think you're screwing a filter in, then let go, and you haven't done squat. So probably was an attempt to eliminate that type of problems in situations where you really need a filter in what might become a very stressed situation?

I got one of these a couple of years ago I think it’s quite good.

Love the lenses 👍 but yeah the inside rubber seems just too much.. your left eye must have been really bothered, sad because I think it could have been a very good gasmask

i have the same problems with my pmk-2, but its not the rubber on my face that gets me its the fogging on the lenses, that gets really bad really quickly. the good thing about the pmk-3 filters is that it works on my pmk-2 with no issues its just very fiddly to get on. good for a get out situation but once the filters clogged your stuffed. unless you use the gp-7 or some other filter with the same thread. you can get thread attachments, i have one and it works on my older 40mm gp-5 filters.

Yes. The Soviets and Russians often evolve thier designs tweeking them a little at a time rather just restart a whole new design. China does the same especially with thier aircraft. They stick with what works and slowly add subtle improvements. Fewer things to go wrong I guess if most parts are already proven. I have one of these, I clearly am baffled by the socket design for the filter. Why not just stick with the 40 mm that you do not have to take off to change. I bought the adaptors to do so for mine, it just makes more sense. Other than that puzzling choice in design, it's not a bad mask as far as I am concerned. I like mine.

the Dutch used the Same straps i1990 and before, only without the nummer, but thats on the backpackt etc but not on the masks i believe

Can you do a review of the gas mask the U.S.M.C uses for CS gas. It has 2 filters and instead of 2 holes for the eyes they have a stretch across.
