A love of trains and train travel is one thing that British and Russian people have in common! See some stations and take a tram ride with Paul.

Russian Railways is a monopoly corporation and is one of the biggest employer in Russia. It employs about 700 thousand people. The most important thing is a guaranteed job until retirement in Russian Railroad. These are good average salaries in provincial towns and a good social package (own medical services, additional vacation days up to 40 business days/year, 50-90% discount of hotel accomodation and free transfer all around Russia by train) and an additional pension also. So there is something Soviet left in the Russian Railways.

Yes, like I said (or rather wrote) RZD is a world in a world! It's funny how train workers always get a good package, it's the same in Britain for sure.

@@PaulintheUSSR I doubt that the average train drivers salary in Russia is over £60,000 as it is in the UK though. 😁

@@beebeer хватит хвастаться большими зарплатами-вы не учитываете расходы-налоги,оплата счетов,питание,стоимость жилья и тд-это самый большой обман населения западных стран -сравнивать зарплату,а не точто остается после всех расходов

@@MssKastalia Actually I wasn't bragging, I was stating a fact. I think it's ridiculous, as our railway system is over priced and unreliable!

The potted plant garden looked calm and peaceful, the artworks looked like they belong in a museum and did you notice how clean it was.
@PaulintheUSSR

Exactly, that's what's cool about a lot of stations here, they can feel like museums and more charming than more sterile, modern stations elsewhere.

I think my favorite train station is the one in Petrozavodsk! It reminds me of the iconic harbour office in Sochi))

Great! I hope more people will write their favourite stations here. I visited Petrozavodsk many years ago (arriving by train) but I can't remember how the station was but I guess I'll visit again one day and get to take more notice of it next time!

Thee is something so lovely about non religious stained glass windows. Great video 😊. You’re making me seriously eager to go on a Russian adventure.

Yes, good observation. In other parts of the world that technique has religious connotations but not here (where religion wasn't encouraged). I've seen many such beautiful specimens over the years

Thank you Ashley! Yes, I would like to spend longer on those things and other shots, but it seems that the modern audience isn't as patient as in the past and get's bored easily so I have to try to keep things choppy, to not slow down the pace too much. But thank you for that feedback.

Thanks so much for the video and mentioning me too!!! The chairs at the yekaterinburg station were really cool as well as the paintings!! I remember the ramp things for the strollers on the stairs. I used to like walking on them when I was 10! The Zlatost station had a really nice mosaic/mural and nice ceiling. I really liked the nice solid railing on the cool stairs. The tram ride was nice. It really goes in between the neighborhood. I'd rather go out my way to go on a tram instead of a bus except when they still had the old Icarus(huganarian built accordian style ones). Those were amazing buses. The Tver and Volgondansk stations looked nice from the outside. The last(your favorite station really had outstanding stained glass windows. I liked that the lady on the PA sounded old style especially with a bit of an echo in their too. Last year when I was in Europe I stopped at a good amount of stations in Paris, London, Leipzig, and Prague. The London, Leipzig, and Paris ones were really nice. Even took the train from Paris to Leipzig even though it was a lot more expensive then taking a bus. I did take a bus from London to Paris, but only because the bus went on a ferry over the channel I wanted to go on a boat instead of a tunnel. Unfortunately the new trains don't have Coupes anymore. I really liked the coupes with the seats facing each other and the sliding doors and the aisle where you always had the men opening up the window and smoking out of it while watching the scenery!

Those ramp things never seem to be the right size for any of the different prams/pushchairs I've used. I guess they are meant more for grannies trolleys but if they made them wider then they could become multi-purpose! Yes, the old Icarus buses were class, but I guess not so practical in bigger cities due to over-crowding. Yes, apart from in Russia, it seems the coupe trains are becoming a thing of the past. The old British trains were well nice and one would really enjoy taking a train journey but now they are all modern and without any character. 🤷‍♂️
