1957. He burst on the national scene in 1956 with his iconic "Don't Be Cruel" and "Hound Dog" and the rest is history. The mid 1950's was the beginning of what became known as "rock and roll" music with Elvis, Bill Haley and the Comets, Chubby Checker, Fats Domino, The Big Bopper and many others.

1957, movie called «Jailhouse Rock». Before anyone did anything, Elvis did everything. A phenomenal entertainer, never to be repeated. This scene is one of the few (the only) time he ever had choreography. Everything else was spontaneous. No lip-sync, no gimmicks, just his pure, never to be matched, talent. This song was a worldwide hit. Elvis never hurt a soul, only himself. In the staid 50’s, he hit like a bombshell. There was before, and after, Elvis. To think that he never got to tour the world, is a cultural crime. He performed 1,128 concerts in the US from 1969-1977, never playing ro an empty Seat. He died at his home, Graceland, on august 16th 1977, only 42 years old. The next day he was starting a sold-out tour, which, naturally, never took place. His death shook the world, with even president Jimmy Carter, expressing his shock and grief. Time seemed to stop when the news came that he had died. He was a worldwide treasure, loved by millions to this day.

That is Elvis. Rolling Stone magazine included "Jailhouse Rock" at number 67 on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and it was named one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. In 2004, it finished at number 21 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema. On November 27, 2016, the Grammy Hall of Fame announced its induction, along with that of another 24 songs. In 2019, the song ranked number 31 on Spanish radio station Rock FM 500's list of "Five Hundred Rockers of All Time", ahead of any other song of the 1950s.

Rock n Roll is a fusion of blues, gospel, minstrel, Celtic, jazz, and country. Popular music goes back thousands of years in documented history. People nowadays need labels for convenient playlists. Otherwise, it’s nonsense. We can say everything is a sub genre of J.S. BACH.

This is rock-n-roll music but it's so early in the genre that it includes stylistic elements of the music from the "Big Band Swing" era of the 1930s through the '40s. You can hear the similarities in this 1945 recording of "Brotherly Jump" by the Tommy Dorsey and the Jimmy Dorsey orchestras. • ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DQE0oTxXnzgh.htmlttps://ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DQE0oTxXnzg.html • So, in that way, it's also similar to "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and his Comets, another example of the early beginnings of rock-n-roll.

It's so fun to watch him when he's that young and there's some stuff on RU-vid where he's even younger. But then all the way into the late '60s and early 70s, he's much older but by then he had the most incredible very large band around him and he was just killing it. His live performances were just jaw-dropping in so many ways. But anyway, Jailhouse Rock would be considered early rock and roll. He was inspired by Little Richard for example, and Chuck Berry is from about the same time.
