Aleksandr (on right) and Vadim Kolpakov (his nephew). Virtuoso 7 string Roma Guitarists from Russia. recorded by Oleg Timofeyev. guitars are tuned D,B,G,d,b,g,d' семиструнная гитара
the capitals are the trebles. so from top string to lowest bass string it is DBGdgbd' (ie, the top string is tuned to 3rd fret on second string of standard 6 string guitar)
Thank-you so much - at last a quality video with Vadim playing, and his uncle is quite awesome. My uncles used to play tzigane tunes on the 7-string guitar, their grandmother (my great-great-grandmother) was from the same tzigane family as that of Aliosha Dimitrievitch.
My Russian friend is an awesome professional acoustic guitarist. I've posted one of his tracks under the name "Sasha the Guitar Man" if you're interested.
Thank you for the reply. The joints of the finger itself don't move, though, right? It's the elbow that does the work? Is there an up-and-down movement, or is it purely rotational? And should the arm be tense or relaxed?
Could anyone, please, explain to me how to play the tremolo that Vadim is playing around 0:40? It looks like a simple rotation of the elbow so that the index finger repeatedly strikes the string, but the problem for me is that my hand is moving at a different path going up than going down no matter how I try it. Is there a trick to this?
This has been a favourite of mine for awhile. I like the melody the guy on the left is playing from around 3:45 - 3:50... and the crazy speeding up near the end... really great work.
