Russia is now rapidly recovering from the destruction during the perestroika years (it was in the 90s, after the collapse of the USSR). We also managed to overcome all the sanctions imposed on us by the West and achieve economic growth. The Russian economy now ranks 6th in the world in terms of GDP by PPP (quite a bit behind Germany, and over the next 10 years, according to all forecasts, it will overtake it). GDP by PPP is GDP taking into account the purchasing power of the country's currency - we deliberately underestimated the ruble exchange rate by 3 times, since we earn most of our funds through exports, and the income is in dollars. yep and to walking around during the day, try it at night, you never ever walk on a road, which you do not know any intel about, plus with IED so easy to take out a platoon or SP group if they do not have intel, then your walking into a death trap its that simple, IMO . :) Plus the teams snipers will have over watch to upgrade the team members if its safe or not, do not just walk on a road with out intel?

I dunjonit all depends but the strategy is defiently throw as many grenades down there as possible. Like 2 each at once and then run. These guys are seriously skilled.

They ARE practicing counter ambush tho. That and surviving an ambush anyways is very controversial. Most of the times, even a half assed ambush will kill skilled SOF guys. The trick, my fwend, is to not walk into an ambush.😛

Well they're testing their TTPs on a close ambush. Almost every training exercise can be beaten by the answer "I just wouldn't have been there in the first place" or "I would have brought more firepower", but then they'd never get to see their ability to react to a close ambush. I'm sure in a less staged training they'd just use a better route and probably also be a lot more dispersed.

@@Redlight25 no, the situation would be walking down a road. The TTP is return fire, smoke out, toss grenades, peel back. Pretty similar the the basic US Army battle drill for react to close ambush - break contract. The situation could theoretically be anything. They could have set up this training in an open field, in a city, in a trench line, whatever. The soldiers don't get to choose though. Where they patrol is chosen by the training cadre because the training cadre needs the ambush to happen. If the SL had control over the scenario, they would say "we're not going anywhere near this obvious LDA." Then the ambush wouldn't happen. Then it would just be these soldiers walking and nothing would happen. Where's the training value? What's more, they need to be put in a losing situation. You need to see how well their TTPs and current level of training holds up in a worst case scenario. You want to see what a soldier will do when things go sideways. The US Army does this exact same thing. US Army squads are also forced to walk straight through obvious ambushes, straight into LDAs and other disadvantageous terrain. It's unfair to try and judge these soldiers based on a training scenario they are forced into. US Army Ranger School forces their squads into shitty scenarios too. I bet any US soldier from a truck driver to Delta have been through an almost identical training countless times.

They would also be covered with russian aligators ground atack chopers and serbian pegaz drones so chill out... This is just a training. In real life they would have drone scouts so ambush would be almost impossible... They must stay sharp and focused though...

This terrain is kinda closed from both sides, so running away anywhere is not an option. Best thing to do is return fire with all you got asap, get some smoke on your possition, and go back the same way you came from.. Because staying here is just waiting for some grenades to be thrown at them..

Umm it's not the sky. They are shooting at the cliff edge where the enemy is most likely to engage from. Infantry you are not.

Im not in the military or anything but if like 10 dudes just start emptying their mags towards your direction you are definitely not keeping your head out an shoot back

There's not really any other way to test and improve individual TTPs than a staged training like this. Sure we're not seeing a true, under stress, surprise react to contact, but the Russians get to see what their plans for such an event is, how well they've trained for that plan, and how they can help them improve on the plan and individual training. Then down the line, when they get into a wargame training, they can be "actually" ambushed and their new and improved TTPs will be tested. Then the process starts over again from classroom, to a staged training like this, eventually beck to wargame again. It all builds up and gets constantly revised and refined.

@@MegaDonPetro I've been a soldier for 6 years now, last two as a squad leader. But I guess you're a wet? In Sweden we been practicing ambushes against Russia since the cold War. My staff commander is a vet from the spec forces with 40 years in the army. He have been in KFOR, Bosnia, etc.

@@stevan5474 um, the US military is the most seasoned military in the entire world....meaning, more American troops have more combat experience then most soldiers in other countries. In addition, that makes the US military overall stronger because their training reflects the experience learned in the field. Most other countries just have theoretical knowledge and thus their training is merely theory, not based on experience and making their soldiers decidedly not as good. Of course in a few months of battle that could change, but (fortunately) not as many countries nowadays go into conflict. Look, you shouldn't feel it's a disgrace to not have as much combat experience...that's a good thing, it means you aren't at war that much and have more peace.

And the whole 'pairs tagging off to start next cycle thing'. Two guys, neither firing, both nobbling about in the same spot, for enough time to chop both guys. You cut your egress short with space so the other guy can start to leg it while you are both technically laying fire.

These are regular forces mostly reserve not any kind of special forces they don't use everything for training.

I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure it’s a Zastava M17, very similar to the SCAR In design, but a bit cheaper.

A few would be dead from the initial attack but this is to prevent a total rout. Its good excercise for the real situation.

Yes, definitely very high casualties. Which is why I'd love to see them try to evac the wounded, it's a decent reaction to contact drill but everything changes when people are dropping and dying around you. So, I'd love to see them practicing that too. With casualties. A smarter thing would be to never walk that trail in the first place.

Mowing down range targets while the other group up hill throw grenades down the path.. only way to avoid is not going that road, or climbing up that cliff or a surveilance drone fly over that path...even though the enemy could dig some makeshift shelters to hide their heat signals or night vision signature.

Yes. Suppression. Not ideal for that situation but in real life honestly most people just panic shoot in the direction they think the shot came from. My dad was an E-7 staff Sargent. I just listened in to what him and his friends wanted to say. We used to do a lot of paint ball in Colorado So I got a few tips to give me an edge against the other kids. That and I like Arma and squad. We aim for accurate tactics so I study up on top of that. I may be a stoner but I'm a half smart one

It's a completely different deal if the direction of enemy fire is identified, but then they wouldn't all be shooting in different directions. This is just wasting ammo and a bit unprofessional

It’s called suppression, they’re shooting at the trees and edges of the cliff because that’s where and ambush is most likely to happen, also it’s human instinct. But I’ll agree, as a Serb, they were too close together and any grenade or improvised explosive would kill many and cause disarray.
