The world is supporting your country and as a Canadian, I am very interested in what is happening. We are hosting a young Ukrainian in our home. I feel like there are many male reporters but I am unable to find many female reporters. I like to hear different perspectives. I hope in future you feel confident enough to help me learn more about your country.

Surzhik is not a dialect, it's a result of Russification, but grammatically it's basically Ukrainian. Different dialects in Ukraine are not surzhik, but just natural forms and local variations of Ukranian language. Similarly, there are many dialects in other languages

you're example about Mexico and California is perfect. I live near the Mexican border. Spanish is spoken everywhere. I'm from Philadelphia and even I speak some of it. It's just part of what's great about living here. I can't imagine some country invading California to liberate Spanish speakers. Or if we invaded Quebec to liberate English speakers from a province that speaks French. I think everyone (unless the person's in total denial) knows that Putin's argument is inane. Russian aggression needs to stop. This war needs to end.

What a breath of fresh air very informative, I'm an English man living in Kyiv for nearly two years now. When i first arrived i was told to try and learn Russian it would be easier then Ukrainian, i never did it did feel right learning Russian for some reason, i now interned to learn Ukrainian, It's a beautiful language, As for Maria's English "it's very good she just need's confidence" Thank you for a great video Orest

Maria your english is very good. 💖💖 What I've found is that people who learn english as a second (or third language) are so humble about their skill and effort required, I've heard its an incredibly hard language to learn. In saying that, I often prefer to listen to non-native english speakers. It feels like more thought is put into what is said and is usually making more sense than native english speakers. Keep up the good work Orest, Maria, Vlad and your teams.

with me and my wife it was even more difficult when we were newly married, then we speak english to each other, now 32 years later she can speak flemish and i thai. I understand that the doom and gloom is necessary to see but it gets depressing after a while. Ok, first of all, as someone who lived through the civil war in ex Yugoslavia and NATO bombing in 1999. I completely understand the disaster Ukrainians are now facing. I remember when I asked my dad did he ever thought that it will be civil war in Yugoslavia he replied "Not in my worst nightmare." Like these people he too ignored all the signs and lived his life like nothing was going on, and he also thought that reason will prevail, that civil war is impossible. I assume these people were living their life and did not care at all what was happening from 2014-2022. after coup d'etat and violent regime change arranged by USA. They completely ignored what was happening in Donbass, 14000 killed there, almost daily rocketing of Donetsk. It is amazing how this women who is from Odessa did not seem to remember what have happened on May 2nd in the union house, almost 50 people who were literally burned alive by Nazi hooligans. Not to mention all the ethno-genocidal measures whose purpose is the violent assimilation of the Russian-speaking population like banning pro Russian political parties, parties who had support of millions of people. Banning pro Russian TV broadcasters and internet portals. Banning Russian language and culture in schools, administration, and even in cafes, restaurants and sport hales. Inventing pseudo Ukrainian history, rehabilitating Nazi collaborators and erecting their monuments. It seems that they did not notice at all that these insignificant far-right (openly Nazi - American History X kind of Nazi) extremists like Azov, Aidar, Right Sector were fully incorporated into the Ukrainian army, that they have entire brigades under their control and that their influence is strong enough that they were able to stop Ukrainian president to sign very fair Minsk 2 agreement because they threatened to kill him. What about NATO officers, generals and instructors who were present in Ukraine long before 2022. who were arming and training these "insignificant extremists." How about beating Russian speaking politicians in the parliament, TV shows, keeping pro Russian politicians under house arrest under false accusations. And we will know very soon about their horror bio labs that were discovered in the southeast. Does this looks like a peaceful democratic neutral country portrait in the Western media???!!! These are all facts, so please do not act like nothing was the cause for this war, that Russians just went insane one day and decided to invade Ukraine. Everyone who ignored this were caught surprised on the February 24th, that was their choice. I lived through the war, I know how is it like, you will need decades just to rebuild your country after this tragedy. Hope you will have peace soon. Greetings from Serbia.

Your interviews with individuals about their personal stories and since the war are interesting to portray. They give a much deeper insight into Ukranian lives and how the war is effecting the individual families,. where we don't often get to know the stories behind all the many faces. Each one had their own story to tell and it is a valuable way of documenting what war means.

Maria, you seem hesitant to jump into another channel and change your language/brand up. I think you should do what makes you happy and where you can do the most help. Im gunna check out your Ukranian channel and I encourage more english speakers to listen to Ukrainian speakers and just read subs. I do, however, continue to encourage you to cover stories in Ukraine. The more honest and local perspectives, the better.

Every ukrainian can speak russian fluently, and this is our imperial legacy. The problem is that they believe the we are one nation.

Just a question: United Nations recommends that children get schooling in their mother tongue during their first years. Has Ukraine been imposing the Ukranian language to their ethnics minorities (or majorities in the case of Russian Speakers) in the schooling system? There has been reports of the Rumanian and Hungarian minorities having been mistreated by the Ukranian policies, not to talk about the desires of people in the Donbass...

I guess Putin liberated little Kira Glodan in Odessa when Putin's murderers fired a missile through her apartment. Little three month old Kira and her mom Valeria were torn to pieces and killed along with her grandma. "Liberated" Putin style.

You mis understand putin didn't say he was liberating Russian speakers in Ukraine. He said he was liberating Ukraine for the Russians, in other words feel free to leave that area like you already did. Kharkov is most diversified city in Ukraine. Many Kharkov residents are ethnic Russians, Azeris, Uzbeks, Kyrgyz, Koreans and mixed and also Russian language is used for daily communication tool among the locals it is because Ukrainian language is difficult to learn compared to Russian therefore, even they understand Ukrainian, they will speak Russian. Putin and his supporters in rest of the world, this is the reality. U destroyed the brotherhood, heritages of Russian history and the people by urself meanwhile U are exciting to see how " de-nazified" in Ukraine.
