Rusty Fox Tail Saw Restoration
This Fox Tail Saw comes from the same era as the pliers I restored earlier, so it's definitely older than me. It was also used to cut BCA bricks, as you can see the white marks on the blade and handle. I was impressed by the resistance over time of the handle, even though it went through a few rains during it's life. In some parts the rust affected the blade more deeply, for this reason I did not insist too much on sanding, I didn't want to thin the blade too much and reduce its resistance. Not having many parts, I tried to keep it simple.
I hope you like my work and enjoy watching video :)

On those through handle cracks, you can use cotton string to push the glue intomthe cracks. Add glue, wrap string around fingers and guide it through the crack. The glue will stick to the string, pull it up and down till you think it got to the surfaces glued. Remove string and add rubber bands (when applicable) to hold tightly till its dry.

What glue is that? And what a lovely clean cut at the end 😂😂

It is wood adhesive! Yes, the cut is finer than the Katana cut :))

Rust comes from oxygen combining with iron to form iron oxide in a process called “slow oxidation”.

Very nice job. Don't believe I have ever seen teeth cut off of a saw blade and news ones files in. I might have polished the blade more. Polished means smoother surface and less friction when sawing. Excellent work saving the old saw.
@TechnicsFR
@TechnicsFR 3 года назад
Thank you for your feedback, Thomas.. the blade was eaten a little deep in a few places and I would thin it too hard if I sanded it completely, but of course there is always room for improvement! Thank you again :)

No me gustó. Muy mala calidad de corte. Yo no hubiera quitado la sierra, mejor afilaba ahi mismo. Para mi no es una restauracion, solo una limpieza. Mucha perdida de tiempo para un pésimo resultado.

Just found this vid. This is a comment section so here are my comments. #1 don't sand cracks or splits inside. #2 loose the dowl. joints glued and clamped with wood working glue are stronger than any wood surrounding the joint so it just weakens the repair. #3 glue is not filler. to fill voids. sand first, then mix glue with the sanding dust and apply. #4 toss that glue. GOOD quality woodworking glue dries clear not white. (Are you using school paste glue? it dries white I know). Cutting the saw plate to a curve seems pointless. but your call. It always amuses me to watch a vid, made by some one who is obviously an amateur.

Hi, Patrick! Calling me an amateur you were really kind :)) I did a lot of mistakes here! For the filling I used scraps from the filing which is wrong, I thought that the sanding residues contain dust and will affect! It is not school paste glue, it is carpentry glue, it remained white probably because the volume was too large! Cutting the saw plate to a curve it allows me to make more teeth! Thank you for your feedback! :)

Good job, may be cold blueing the metal for long durability (and no more rust).

That is some pretty course teeth you made on it. Usually you can file the original teeth and reset them to make it cut properly again. But whatever you like is how you do it. Thumbs Up!
