Nobody, and I mean nobody, is doing videography at this level of sophistication AND value (here’s looking at you Adam Savage). (Okay, Luke is in the same tier, so a group of two).

Wow! Hard to know what to say to a Compliment like that except Thank You Ken-and My motivation and Pressure both just went up--lol

@@JeffReiten A few more words on this. Of course Adam Savage is mostly doing a different form factor, and content. He's taken care of the details. My comments about your video quality are are _not_ about the issues of pure technical quality (focus, color, etc...though those matter greatly). Rather, it is about the information design decisions you make. - You show enough of each part the process for the student to learn. You even manage to hold back just enough so that the student who cares, might watch several times, and very carefully, before the "ah-ha" moment occurs. It is a joy when it does, and it would be demolished if you we're chattering all the time (especially if using the past tense. Gross.) - You use sufficient captions, well-displayed, to clarify what can't be seen (some products, for instance). - You have, _mercifully_, discarded the soul-destroying stop-motion delivery. In its place, you take the time to use elapsed time….show the beginning, any important changes as the process continues, then the intermediate finished products, on the way to the conclusion of the class. I have, almost exclusively, abandoned all people who use the stop-motion, or high-speed technique. Don't get me wrong. There are excellent practitioners out there who produce great "products." They are, simultaneously, either lazy or incompetent teachers, as shown by the information design manifest in their videos. Each of them, and there are an endless stream, would do well to learn information design from you. Your work is Master Class, and I am grateful for it. As a side note, if you are unfamiliar with the work of Edward Tufte, then drop what you are doing, buy all his books, and study until your eyes bleed.

Awesome. Some grey paint added into that concrete mix probably would've made it even better still. This is clearly the most criminally under-subscribed model making channel on all of RU-vid by far.

lol-Thanks James Gordley!!...I normally do add some acrylic grey/ brown paint or pigments but I wanted a really light base for painting in Part 2

Great technique. Like all your videos, the extra time taken during the process really pays off with very realistic results. Have you considered making a full diorama for a video?

Another brilliant video Jeff!! I work with concrete for a living and for a second I thought I was back on the job site lol. Folks, it doesn't get anymore realistic than this. The technique in this video is an exact reproduction in miniature of how concrete is done in real life. Outstanding job!

@@JeffReiten thank you again for sharing your great modeling skills! This week I just completed a 1/12 scale figure with scratchbuilt base. The base features a war torn factured roadway and sidewalk. In addition to a host of various rubble. Most of which I learned from watching your videos. Couldn't have done it without ya. Thank you so much!

Instead of using brass wire you could use cheap wire from the flower shop. They should have them in different sizes/diameter and they sometimes have the perfect darkgrey colour.
@JeffReiten
@JeffReiten 3 года назад
Hey Rock Strongo, Yeah you can use whatever wire size/diameter you have...I like the copper wire because it bends easy and hold its shape...I'm gonna be painting the concrete and wire in part 2

@@JeffReiten Fantastique technique (as usual). I love not only the way your videos are realized (should take you hours and hours😱) but also the didactic way you are showing all this. It's more than helpful🙏 I'm dying to watch part 2 of this serie, mainly for the painting of the wires. At this stage, I'd have painted them before putting them in the mixture but let's wait and see 👍

@@zepzepzep4503Thank You!! lol--they take a while that's for sure..I definitely thought about painting them before putting them into the concrete ( and it would work nicely) but decided against it with some of the stuff I will be using to paint them..should be out in a few days!

Superb video - as always. Really enjoying the positive comments. Quick question - is your concrete recipe by weight or volume?
@JeffReiten
@JeffReiten 3 года назад
thanks thedownhilla!! I use volume..25% hydrocal - 25% plaster of paris - 25% sand and 25% water...if you don.t have hydrocal and plaster you can just use 50% of either
@EMTBonsai
@EMTBonsai 3 года назад
Very cool only thing maybe effect some is I price 5 rods at £5 UK and noticed younise 5 rods per pillar, so cast £15 plus the plasticard and plaster or filler mix! It's very very nice and going to be great detail would copper wire not be cheaper? Inside rolls of copper bonsai wire for my dioramas and trees I get abig roll if it for £25 different sizes from ebay maybe a cheaper option!?

@@JeffReiten it's a great look I'll be trying it in a Diorama soon I don't know if I should make bricks from a mould or from foam I think making a mould and using the same as the crumbled brick effect would look more realistic this way! Thanks for the reply

Hey Pete Nope nothing special - just a bag of sand I picked up at the local home improvement store...I did put it thru a filter to remove any larger stones but other than that just standard sand
