When you think of Rusty Wallace, Midnight is THE car. From 1992 to 1994, merely uttering the world “Midnight” in the NASCAR garage was enough to strike fear in the hearts of drivers and teams. During that span, Wallace and Midnight simply dominated the NASCAR circuit. Together, they captured an astonishing 13 wins (41.9%), 25 top-five finishes (80.6%) and 27 top-ten (87.1%) finishes in a 31-race span, as well as leading 3,918 of 12,001 possible laps (31.4%) during the period. The legendary Wallace was elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame on his first ballot in 2013. Upon his election, Wallace’s eldest son, Greg, headed an effort-with support from Penske Racing, MillerCoors and Ford Motor Company-to restore Midnight to its 1994 trim for Rusty’s NASCAR Hall of Fame exhibit. A conversion from Midnight’s 1998 Ford Taurus body, back to its 1994 Ford
Thunderbird skin and its iconic Miller Genuine Draft livery was thus undertaken by a group of former Penske Racing employees.
Afterward, Midnight rightfully appeared on static display at the NASCAR Hall of Fame-as the centerpiece of Wallace’s induction exhibit-before returning to his personal collection. The car has subsequently been returned to its 1994 “race-ready” condition. It features an authentic, period correct Ford “C3” engine, built on an actual Penske Racing block, producing approximately 750 horsepower.

This video made me so happy. My favorite driver, my favorite car. Watched NASCAR as a kid 12 years old… all those races I went to with my family. Waiting patiently in line to meet Rusty and have him autograph my hats, t-shirts pictures. I still have drawings, posters of Rusty and of all his cars but Midnight was the best paint scheme. One bada$$ car!

Man, I sat in this car on April 4th 1993, tears in my eyes, celebrating Rusty's win and still devastated by Kulwicki's death. They were my favorite two drivers at the time, and when Alan left us, Rusty came out and won Bristol in his honor three days later. I was ten years old at the time and it wrecked me to lose my favorite driver. I'd met both of them numerous times growing up, and when we found Rusty in the pits, he was more than happy to let me sit in it, same as Alan had the year prior after his win. This car will always hold a very special meaning in my heart. Thank you for this video and for bringing back these memories.

Best NASCAR stuff I’ve seen in a long time. No one gave better post race interviews than Rusty especially when he was pissed. This is coming from an Earnhardt guy. So many reasons why NASCAR isn’t big anymore to fans of the sport of this era (90’s) that I won’t even attempt it in this comment section. Just to bring up one point: would be the uniqueness of “Midnight” vs the what NASCAR has done to the cars over the last 15 or so years.

This video leaped up to near the top of my fav list for your NASCAR video series. The history, the driver, the car. All awesome in their own right. You put all three together, and it becomes priceless. For just a couple minutes, Rusty was 30 something again. Keep it up Mitchell and Logan, you are continually hitting it out of the park!

@@newtonfirefly3584 This may be true and I would have loved to see NASCAR first hand in the 60's and 70's but since I wasn't alive then I have to go for what were the best years that I lived to personally see.
