Rusty World War 1 Bayonet Restoration with Epoxy Resin Handle. Take a look and tell me in a comment what you think. Also can help me grow by clicking the subscribe button and enable the notifications.
In this video I restore an old and rusty bayonet from the first world war. I found this rusty bayonet on Etsy app and I decided to do a restoration for you guys. After the package has come to me,I saw the wood handle and I certainly couldn't keep the wood;my second decision was to do a new and cool handle with epoxy resin - so I started to work to a new restoration project.
The bayonet had engraved : WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM & CIE SOLINGEN,so is a german bayonet.
Maybe some will hate me because I used epoxy resin for a bayonet that has a history behind, but certainly this bayonet will no longer be used, and for a piece of furniture I find the use of epoxy resin in handle, very cool.
I hope I made a successful restoration video and will be to your liking.
It's the second time I work with epoxy resin and I think this work is part of art, so don't be mean in comments.
Subscribe for more cool videos, with each restoration video I try to give the best of myself and make the best restoration possible.

You do incredible restoration work. Witness your loving gorgeous painstaking cleaning and restoring of the blade. You asked for an opinion about the handle so here's my take: this is listed as a WWI bayonet. The name on the blade, the design-all of the metal speaks to an age of around one hundred years ago or more. So, with this incredibly beautiful antique metal blade, my sense is that I would want to preserve it's antiquity and historical look with an actual wooden handle. The artificial material, while nice for many types of furniture, etc. is to me a jarring introduction of the modern into something that is actually old. But, still, the red coloration looks a little like deep reddish tinted burl wood. Ultimately you are a master at what you do and I always look forward to your new videos!

Very nice! I would have preferred to see a new wood handle but the epoxy handle looked far from bad. Something to note is that this bayonet intended to be used in a stabbing motion instead of a slashing motion like you did with the watermelon, so oftentimes the bottom side was left fairly blunt.

i like your videos but this is something with some serious historic value, i mean you do other stuff like tools and such but that bayonet went through ww1 at least and i just think it deserves a bit more respect than being dolled up to look nice to the modern eye

@golddragonette7795

Weapons in WWI were so mass produced that a single bayonet isn't a make or break for historical significance, if anything the blade restoration is a great counterpoint to the preservation status of the rest. An epoxy handle, not so much, but as long as it's clearly labelled then it's simply part of the artefact's ongoing history. This from an archaeologist, btw

I liked how you did the handles. As someone who collects 98 bayonets (typically of the later ww2 period) a ww1 bayonet is hard to come by. The epoxy resin coloring was a nice touch. Unlike the bayonet restoration that I seen before, you made it where it still will mount on the rifle. I didnt care for the sharpening of the blade, as most were left unsharpened for maximum trauma. But it isnt me restoring it. It is up to the collector if they want to add this to the collection. And I do believe someone would add to theirs for the right price. Oh and that knob in the back does come off. All the s98 bayonets were made that way.

the only more expensive ones are the serrated "sawback" combat engineering models, same as the normal ones but with serrations for sawing, other then that it's still a regular combat knife/bayonet but with some added utility and "cool factor", I think it might be cross comparable with the newer shorter K98 rifle (I might be thinking of the K98 bayonet being able to mount on a G98 but they also might be fully interchangeable, I'd need to reread on that)

my only issue is the resin handle, i would have rather it be wood but understand why you chose the resin over wood as it’s visual and a conversation piece so it looks older in a way that you can’t get with new wood: completely understandable and done for the right reasons. it’s visual art, it’s as close as you can get to original condition without a time machine so nicely done!

Mine is a German K98 Bayonet is good condition considering it’s age. Made in 1942 by fze (F.W. Holler), so the handguard is straight down and smaller, and plastic handel, good kitchen knife for the outdoor kichen.

Whenever I see a rusty old sword, weapon or gun I get somber thinking about how many people have been injured or killed by someone using that weapon. Then I lose all joy watching it be restored.

Wow my friend I'm very impressed nothing satisfies me more than seeing a piece of military history restored back to its former glory I love that you made the blade look brand-new and preserve the markings and I love the red handle you made it look near brand new now he needs a metal case for it

Nice work, I like the way you made your own grips, and of course, they can be exchanged for wooden grips at a later date.

Impressive restoration. However I cannot help but think about my grandfather who lost his right index finger to a German bayonet in the trenches in France....

I was *so hoping* to see you laser that clean in a matter of minutes. Why not? Was probably your safest option considering the age of the item.

Sometimes, after laser you need to sanding manually. This step I use it in this video. Will be also laser but i try to improve the machine
