Sad to see Yager go as a Pens fan but McGroarty is closer to the NHL, could even potentially be the new winger with Sid. If Dubas wants to get younger but stay competitive with the big 3 this is the perfect type of move for us. Overall W but Winnipeg definitely getting a really good piece so wishing Yager nothing but the best. Obviously neither had played in the NHL yet so kind of too early to say anything but I think this is a rare win-win for both sides.

As a Pens fan it would have been nice to keep Yager and get mcGroarty, but you have to give in order to get. I hope that Rutger is able to have an immediate impact for the Penguins and help accelerate the quiet rebuild.

I think both teams did very well in this trade. McGoarty was in demand and the Jets had many teams inquiring about his services. Holding a good quality asset is leverage in itself.

As a jets fan, I’m not mad at all about this return, yager is one year younger and they were both drafted 14th. Al though I think rutger is better in this moment, yager has so much potential and I’m not mad AT ALL with this knowing rutger was gonna leave. And Yager is canadien

Solid hockey trade for both sides. As a Pens fan, Yager was the first glimmer of hope we’ve had in YEARS as far as a seriously talented prospects goes. Tit for tat trade but I think McGroarty has a quicker impact on the NHL lineup in Pittsburgh. Helps speed up the pace of this gnarly rebuild coming.

as a pens fan I love this deal so much even though I loved Yager. Dubas has done a very underrated job at making this team better in the future without blowing up the roster and I think people need to realize this.

A lot of the hate and attention for Dubas is still coming from Leafs fans (and outsiders who know him from being in Toronto) who want to pick apart his every decision (lookin at you sdpn). But maybe with time people will look back at his moves with a more level headed approach but I'm not betting on it. I think in the meantime, we Pens fans should embrace the hate as we go down with the ship (I don't think a retool is enough...)

@@Junketsuadidas because Rutherford and Hextall made lots of bad deals, not to say all of Dubas have been golden but he's already collected some draft picks and assets more than they had up in the pool for a while some NHL ready talent like a 6'5 defenseman own pickering and would like to see Joel Blomqvist in net but probably going to have to settle for Jarry

As a Pens fan, I’m stoked. I love Rutger, he’s been one of my favourite prospects in the sport since his DY-1, and I was never a huge fan of the Yager pick last year, he’s very one-dimensional. He’s fine, and still a decent prospect, but imo Rutger is better by quite a bit and is much more NHL ready. Yager will take at least 2/3 years to play imo, I think Rutger can play this season already

Win win for both teams…Just to note…Rutger believes he’s NHL ready but that doesn’t mean he’ll stick…speed and skating is an issue as the NHL is a LOT faster than US College. I would say his character is in question now too but all the best to both kids.

I think he immediately pushes for the wing on Sid’s line. O’Connor was decent there, but I think he will be even more impactful on the 3rd line. I think this move makes the club deeper and more fun to watch for sure.

As a jets fan I think this was a good trade as I wasn’t expecting to get a real good return for Mcgroaty. I think yager kinda replaces him in a sense and it’s overall a good trade

Both 14th overall, McGroarty is probably better and more NHL ready, but it could be close. Yager being from Saskatchewan is probably more happy than most to play in Winnipeg. Both teams and players win. Pittsburgh got a better player, Winnipeg got a player that want to play for them, McGroarty play in US market with Crosby and Yager stay close to home.

Can’t help but feel the penguins overpaid on this trade. Both are equal prospects but feel there was a better package the penguins could have done so they could have retained Yeger and acquired McGroarty. After all the Jets had no leverage in this trade and McGroarty wanted out. Would have rather seen a lesser prospect or two and picks sent out.

We're gonna see somthing in the next CBA prevent this id bet money on it. Its been happen to much in the past few years, i got a feeling owner and gms are tried of this, i believe for Chl its after their 20th birthday to become unrestricted FAs, maybe a system for all prospects like from 17-20 the team has total control, but at 20 if hes not signed maybe he become an unsigned RFA and every one can try to negotiate with them and maybe it guaranteed compensation like if he was a first you get theirs or if he was a 4th you get a 4th an so.

Pens fan here. I'd say this trade is largely irrelevant for them either way, unless they plan to trade McGroarty later. The thing is, the Pens are likely more than a decade away from legit contention for Cups. What they really need are prospects who will be ready to be key contributors when it matters. It's not gonna matter for the next 3 years of McGroarty's ELC. Even if he's excellent, he will serve no purpose here and they won't profit from it at all. It's wasted. The team's toast for the foreseeable future. What's he gonna change? Possibly get them a few more points in the standings and get them to lose in round 1 instead of missing the playoffs? Great. Who cares? All that will achieve is make them pick lower in a deep draft, and limit the quality of their returns at the deadline.
