I came away from this game with a positive outlook for the rest of the season. Rutgers was able to pound Tech’s D for essentially the whole game. Rutgers looked like the better team for 45 of the 60 minutes on the road. Plus, we have a multidimensional offense now that just proved itself against a Power 4 defense.

To me, what makes this game such a big deal is being able to move the ball AND get a win when Monangai isn’t at his best. He got stuffed on a number of run attempts and last season Rutgers would lose those games because they couldn’t move the ball. This is a completely different team!

That 4th and goal from the 1 yard line was painful. We have two great backs, and Kirk decided to get cute.

It is not teh 4th dopwn play that's the problem.. it is needing a 4th down play that's the problem. We often seem to waste opportunities to set up down and distance situations better.

When you well within field goal range, and you are off to the side and it’s third down, just bring the ball to the middle of the field, and get the three points. Get points get points get points that’s what it boils down to.

the game was far from perfect, and there definitely was some questionable decision making from the coaches at times but after all that we still found a way to come out with the W so can’t complain 🤷‍♂️ if you told me Rutgers wins 26-23 before the game started i would’ve signed up for it

2nd half playcalling.. spot on guys.. imo we ned to spread the field and run it when they are stopping the run up the middle.. Monangai producing TFLs? C'mon now.. you know the defense is selling out to stop him.. punish them for doing that and spread the field when you want to run. BTW.. I called for that screen pass from my couch... so happy to see it happen. We really need to go to stuff like that when it is obvious the D is run-blitzing.

I got the feeling RU knew they had this game in hand and played with house money for 2 1/2 quarters pushing the envelope with risky play calling all to get conservative at the end and panic a bit when their D lost stamina.

You guys running same pass play 18 times and our first time defensive coordinator not adjusting was maddening. Sitting in the stands it was so friggin obvious. 😡 Good game tho, u just pushed our defense down the field with ease.

Come on guys a bit harsh. Lets call this game a beautiful mess but there is much to like. We have balance with the run and pass which sets up a pick your poison situation. I will say, to my recall Schiano with all he has done for the program he has struggled at times with in game management decisions.

Schiano almost cost us this game. Some headscratching decisions on multiple 4th and Goals and that ugly long FG

I agree Coach made some head-scratching decisions but he wasn't the one who was missing tackle after tackle and letting VT run wild in the second half. That is the worst tacking I have seen from Rutgers defense.

Exactly, VaTech is a contender to win the ACC, playing at home with a great gameplan to stop the run. Schaino correctly talked about the many NFL level players on their roster, AND WE WON THE GAME. GREAT WIN! end of story. What I saw was a team in Rutgers that is capable of winning the BIG TEN.

Not insane. Defnse got wore down. OL seemed vulnerable to determined run-blitz. Once they stopped that RPO pass.. was it on a 2-pt try? We shied away from it. We seemed to have no answers in the 2nd half.

@@THTech000 Yes he does have to swear, these two are insane. Mike was talking like this was an easy win (insane) before the game, and is so negative because he probably had prop bet giving VT points and lost.

Typical fans. This was a great win in a really tough road game. Rutgers dominated for most of this game with a poor 10 minutes (give some credit to Va Tech). Then at the end of the game when Rutgers needed to step up, they did. Yes we have some stuff to clean up but much, much more good then bad. Bottom line, huge win on the road.
