He resolved a border dispute between Paraguay and Argentina, which helped Paraguay secure 60 percent of land mass. There is a city and a holiday named after Rutherford B. Hayes in Paraguay.

Fun fact: the economy recovered under him (definitely helped by Grant’s vanquishing of overly high inflation through the Species Resumption Act); he lowered overly high taxes; got some civil service reform started by firing corrupt federal employees under him; generally had an appropriately restrained foreign policy; kept US as close as possible on a gold standard for a stable economic future by vetoing then mitigating the inflationary Bland-Allison Act; and tried to help African Americans and Natives (though the effect was not what he wanted). Reconstruction was practically over by the time he came to office (I think just South Carolina still had troops in places to stop abuse of Black Americans), though I do wish they would’ve found a better solution to keep helping them. Also, he kept his pledge to serve only one term. Overall, an underrated, honest, and good man.
