Prof you have dwelled on Gachagua assuming that he is the only torchbearer from the mountain. What if there Ruto Gachagua ticket remains intact but a serious contender from the mountain vies against them bearing in mind the mountain is rejecting the KK government? What if Raila doesn't run and neither supports Gachagua nor Ruto I the event they vie separately? There could rise a young politician taking over from Raila and that young man can be Babu Owino or Sifuna. In the event Raila is not running, what if Ruto picks Gladys Wanga or Ann Waiguru as running mate? What if Gachagua picks Matiangi as running mate? There are more alignment options at least for now.

We love to assume that Raila wants the Presidency. Majority of people in Nyanza know if he really wants it because he has more networks both locally and international and money...he would have been but he doesn't want that's why he deliberately makes himself loose because the theatrics around being opposition hides alot and he benefits more locally and internationally than being President. Raila has never been out of power. Those theatrics is what makes him a parallel institution and he keeps President's in power and every cabinet and government parastatals regardless of tribe because he is not tribal. IMHO: The Mt. Kenya community already feels betrayed by Gachagua. However, there being no other vibrant leader in the region, a Raila-Gachagua card would spell doom in Ruto's camp. Add to that the backing of Uhuru Kenyatta, who the Mountain despised, but now wants, it would be an early win. But that's subject to Ruto and his battalion ensuring a fair election ground, which I highly doubt he will. Ruto is there till 2032. Sadly.
