Here's a great tool for learning openings: chessbook.com/hanging-pawns Chessbook allows you to import and practice your repertoire. It focuses on moves people actually play as well as your mistakes. Connect it to your lichess or chess com accounts to correct the biggest gaps in your repertoire!
Excellent video! I have been watching agadmator, finegold and SLC videos for a couple of years and have been one of their early subscribers. They are great for learning about and enjoying famous games and lines, but for a person who wants to learn chess, your channel seems to be doing the best job so far! Your video is very methodical, keep up this approach. Subscribed :)
@@HangingPawns Completely agree with Apurva comment, couldn't have said it better. Thank you for this video! I feel like I actually understand an opening and can start learning fundamentals of chess much better!
I have watched a lot of videos on openings. But they tend to say a lot of things, and I get confused midway. But you explained this Ruy Lopez opening so well. Thank you so much..
I've been leisurely playing chess since I was a child but have recently taken a keener interest in the game and have decided to study chess to become a better player. This video was very helpful and has given me many things to contemplate. I have been playing the RL and really like the games that arise from it. Thank you!
I'm glad you like it! I hope the theory is clear and understandable. If you have any suggestions or openings you would like me to cover don't hesitate to say:)
This is the 1st video of yours that I've seen. I like how you covered the main variations without going too deep, and followed up with more videos covering the variations in more depth. I'm looking forward to watching the rest now. Nice job!
WoW! Just discovered your channel and I loved it. I have watched many chess channels but the way you explain chess, its beautiful. I have played chess for a few years now, and I have just started a chess club for my students (am teaching Mathematics and Science at high school). I will definitely give them your videos for instruction to complement what I teach them. Keep this up!!!
Liked you clear explanation on a very popular positional opening which follows classical Chess opening principles. It has retained its premier position for centuries. Hats off to Ruy Lopez de Segura.
I've been trying to learn more theory about the Ruy Lopez and your video was the simplest and most well spoken one I've watched so far. Thank you, you have my subscription.
You should have many more subscribers. I'm a 500 player, only got back into chess after many years this past winter because of quarantine, and I've rediscovered my love for the game and its intricacies. The depth of your chess knowledge and the way it is presented combines to make some of the best chess content on RU-vid imho. Keep up the good work man, I really love your videos.
I have not played chess in a long time and I got back into it recently. I have been playing the London system and have had some good success, however, I have always enjoyed the idea of learning and studying the Ruy Lopez. This playlist is probably a good place to start. Thank you!
awesome video you actually explain thing other youtubers just show the moves no explaination its like okay... those people shouldnt try to teach chess you on the other hand are awesome thank you!
Thank You so much, Sir. I have looked everywhere and yours is the one with best explanation with enough depth for a beginner player like me. Ruy Lopez is my favourite opening and I will surely learn all variations in the future from your instructive videos.
How did I not find this channel earlier??? You're giving out free professional courses.... Thank you so very much. In amateur chess as soon as you move bishop to a4 they push b5....how to punish or refute that?
Lord Orochimaru an early D4 is the punishment for that move, early b5 is a fatal error from black that should lead to a comfortable win. Be careful learning from this series hanging pawns doesn’t know much about the ruy Lopez and skips many critical systems.
I recommend the Svidler course on the Ruy Lopez on Chess24. Probably by far the best resource on the internet. Worth a subscription just for that course.
@@Robertl-xz6yl i mean 4. ... b5 5. Gb3 g6 is a variation in which Mamedyarov was able to defeat Kramnik with black pieces in 2018, so it doesn't seem like it's that bad
@@mightymouse652 Yes, but I recommend just getting a premium membership for a month or two instead of paying for an individual course. That way, you get access to all of them for cheaper. Svidler's courses are top notch, the Grünfeld course is probably the most in-depth single resource on an opening there is.
A great video.right into the content without wasting any time.and i love the fact that u creating separate videos for each main lines.that makes it easier to access whatever we want.thanks!
An in-depth analysis of a Ruy Lopez (Berlin Defence) game between Strelka 5.5 and Komodo 12.3. www.chess.com/blog/jishnuplayschess/komodo-12-3-plays-the-ruy-lopez
Awesome and logical explanations of Spanish opening ideas in general ,awaiting your next videos separately in details for each variations, keep it up and thanks for sharing
Excellent video.... also very clear idea for new players.....and the markers help to understand the plans for both sides alot.... I'm subscribing....and plz....keep up the good works.... ❤️❤️❤️
Great introduction for me to learn more about improving my chess openings and foundation for understanding concepts and principles. Thank you for the video!
Magnificent! I have used Ruy Lopez opening and I have done all that was explained here, but I have never been aware of names on variations. I now see them clearly. And with practice, you can improve your game and gain time in the openings. Thank you for this video.
Very nice explanation of the eternal Ruy Lopez. Slight coverage of the Noah's ark trap in Ruy Lopez would have given a nice touch to it. Appreciate your videos!
First video I saw of yours, I thank the youtube algorithm for suggesting it to me! Great explanations and clear concepts, I really appreciated your video! One thing I would like to ask: do you use a particular program for the coloured squares that appear when you are going to move a piece (e.g. at 3:49)? I believe they would be quite helpful to understand where a piece should be developed/moved.
Hello, i just discover your chanel,i search and watched a lot lot of content on so much chanels but dear and i must say you are a absolute marvel! Your explanations are so clear! Just what i needed! God bless you! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
@ Hanging pawns Thanks for uploading these opening tutorials, I only learn chess last month, you videos help me get 1400 ratings at lichess, Thanks!!! I hope a new opening video will come out because those last ones are about magnus vs caruana the championship, thanks😁🇵🇭👍
This is a really well made video. Thanks for sharing. I think you articulate the basic ideas very well and I have found it instructive. Subscribed! Thanks a lot.

MArvelous explanation. I would like to know if you have another video for the Ruy López Opening: Morphy Defense, Modern Steinitz Defense. I'm playing actually one game in a 3 day format. 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 d6 4. c3 Bd7 5. O-O a6 6. Ba4 .... Thank you .
A Really great video. I've been trying soooo many different opening throughout my 1st few months playing online chess. Not a great idea. I'm trying to figure out 1 with white and 1 with black that allows for what I've been told are the 3 keys to beginners climbing the rating ladder- (1. Control Center 2. Development of pieces 3. King safety ), and this one was recommended to me today . Ruy Lopez folds those 3 concepts nicely into a neat package. In my experience, as extremely limited as it is, I have seen all sorts of responses to an opening theory that I put down. I cant say what my opponents' might do, but even if it's not the same as in the videos, I trust this one will be a great way to start really focusing on those 3 principles.
Great video! This will really help a lot since the Ruy Lopez is the most common opening :) Perhaps do something very interesting after you've covered all the basic openings. The Halloween Gambit is very interesting!
So hard to judge how far to go into each variation, but I think you’ve got it just about right. Advanced players are not gonna be here anyway, and absolute beginners will be pleased to stretch their opening repertoire with a few more sensible moves in the Ruy Lopez.
