In this video, we finished section 26 - mid fuselage ribs and bottom skins. Enjoy!

If you purchase an RV kit (any model), and you've found value in my videos, please submit the referral form given to you with my builder number (42315), and, at no charge to you, Vans will send me $100, which in turn will be used to get our build off of the ground 🛫

Fess up, Austin. You know very well that when Master Manke is in his back carrier, he's guiding you through the build Ratatouille-style. As far as the "Primer Wars" I don't get it why it's a war. It's builder's choice, and it's not a prime-all/prime-nothing situation. I choose to prime bent/formed and non-Alclad components (SEM spray can) as well as component contact areas. I figure by the time anything else corrodes, so will my cold dead bones.

Haha. Dang! You figured us out!! I would be lost without him. And I think that approach makes sense. I’d hate the added build time prepping and priming every component. Especially knowing there are incredibly old planes with bare alcad still flying today.

@@AustinManke And I bet many of those old airplanes lived most of their lives outside and in many different climates. IMHO, I don't think totally encapsulating an aluminum part/component in primer buys much extended life. What, and additional 25-years on top of 75+-years unprimed? All a matter of builder comfort level, and a rabbit hole awaiting travel.

Hah! Primer Wars! I'm actually priming with Akzo even though I live in the high desert of central Oregon with fairly low humidity. Not AZ or NV low but much lower than most of the U.S. I'm doing it with future resale in mind. Not worried about corrosion where I live plus the plane is in my hangar. LOVE seeing you work with your baby "on board"!

lol. Gotta love the never ending primer wars! And that makes a lot of sense. I can definitely see how it would be more marketable at resale to be primed with a durable primer. Especially to be able to sell to buyers near the coast or humid areas. And thank you! I figure if he watches what I'm doing, he will eventually just naturally be good at riveting by the time he is walking... Or something like that.

did you use longer rivets on the doubler? rivet length should be your total thickness+1.5xrivet diameter. Fellow rv-7a builder and airframe holder. Loving the build and the content. I'm looking forward to the primer wars you started lol

I did. Don’t remember what the length was but I did upsize for the added material thickness. And that’s a fun build! Such a neat plane. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Be sure to check back in to see if the primer wars kick off 😂

How is the chapter 11 of VAN going to affect you guys?

We have one kit on order with them (finishing kit), so they have our deposit for that. The kit price is going up with the bankruptcy. We intend on continuing with the build though and I am pretty confident Vans will make it out of this. Thankfully we didn't have an engine or prop deposit in with them. That is where all of the unknowns still remain for builders
