Getting a good camp spot without a reservation feels like ya win the lottery! It's great when ya pull in and see the spot available is the one you would have picked if you had your choice.
Another way to search. Go to google maps or google earth. The will take you to your current location. Do a search for “camping” and or “RV park” or similar. If where you want to be is outside the screen, pan to the area and “Search Here” will show on screen. Works very well!
We are not able to get reservations at any of our usual spots and we have been regular RV years for the last 15 years. Thank you for the information I love your videos. Thomyt
Thank you we bought a 5th wheel at the Tampa show and we need to find a place to camp near Sarasota Florida in about 3 weeks when we pick it up and I had no idea where to look for one. And it’s a 40 ft. So there’s the size to. But this info helped
Just found this channel. Great info. Hubby is wanting to just take off in camper fly by the seat of his pants. Me, not so sure about it. This video gave me info to see that it's possible.

As soon as we retired in December, 2020, we knew we were going to Sturgis, SD for the motorcycle rally for the 5th time, but this time we were going to plan a nice long path from Kentucky to California to visit friends and family first. I became a member of Harvest Hosts, because many times we just want a place to sleep a few hours without a time consuming set up, but quite frankly am tired of the “rest area” or “Cracker Barrel” overnights. When planning our 5000 mile round trip I have been able to “request a stay” at two Harvest Host locations. One in Oklahoma and one in Utah, and can’t wait to visit these two completely different types of places! I also use Recreation.gov and have had a lot of success even reserving just a couple months ahead. COE campgrounds are usually beautiful, or have perfect RV pad, tables or recreation and definitely inexpensive. Though I made reservations and ended up having to cancel two weeks in advance, I still lost one night, but at $19 I wasn’t too concerned that my money was basically a contribution to the maintenance of what turned out to be a beautiful park. I also use GoodSam, first to “navigate” where my RV can travel as opposed to a car, and second to help with reviews. It has taken me a total of at least 2 weeks of google maps, and websites to plan our route that begins July 22, 2021 and ends sometime the first week in September. (I began planning and reserving in March). Our biggest alteration we WILL do is add more Solar to be able to pull into beautiful Disbursed camping areas that are much more plentiful. We travel in a 37’ Class A, and will pull an enclosed 12” trailer which will have our motorcycle. So some places, like state parks or COE are a little more difficult to find and even if their slots are long, we’ve had to detach the car we were dollying on one trip. But the place was so beautiful it was a good way to learn how to do it to enjoy the campground. This is my first plan for such a long trip and it’s stressful and exciting at the same time. Thanks for your information and happy travels!
