RV Florida: Preparing for Hurricane Matthew in St. Augustine FL (Ep 24 Keep Your Daydream)

We met up with Sailing Britican in Charleston, SC before we made our way down to St. Augustine, FL via Savannah, GA only to get evacuated by Hurricane Matthew. We ended up heading inland to Silver Springs RV park in Ocala, FL to hang out for a few days while Matthew passed and then arrived in Miami.

I travelled with three teenagers and an anxious husband from Boston to Orlando during Matthew. Got stuck in Fayettevill, NC for 2 days in a tiny hotel room while the storm caused massive flooding all around us. I had brought some camping gear just in case and it saved us from no lights, no food, etc. Would have been a super fun if my husband your sense of adventure! Thanks for sharing!!!

Been there done that! We were evacuated from Lake Brownwood State Park in July 2015! “The Old Girl was taking on water!” Lots of it. We left the park got 10 miles from Abilene,Tx CLEAR & SUNNY!!

I live in central Florida; lots of cool, unique nature here. Tricia was right about alligators :) That was a gopher tortoise, another pretty cool species to learn about. My husband and I are seriously considering an RV and I’m learning tons from your videos. We did lots of tent camping when our children were young-looking forward to camping with more comfort in an RV now that they are grown. You’ve given us some great ideas of where we’d like to visit. Toll suspensions = WIN!!

We were at FLa Caverns state park when this one came through. We were also evacuated and when we asked did they know where we could go that would be safe with our RV we were told "Its only my job to tell you to get out, what happens to you after that is not my problem" Last time we volunteered there but I guess we were lucky because when Michael came through it destroyed the park. The comment about its not his problem still does not set right with me. Without volunteers they would be out there doing the work instead of sitting in Air conditioned offices all day.

I am enjoying watching your adventures. This episode you guys are definitely funny because you have never been though a hurricane before. You have got to be prepared before hurricane season!. I live in near Houston in Galveston County. I have been though several hurricanes at this point. Yes we suspend tolls when hurricanes are approaching before and afterward.

That stinks that y'all were down with the Hurricane. I'm a local Floridan and not far from St. Augustine, it's one of our favorite places to go and there's a ton of history, great food, and shopping to be had. Love the vids!

sorry for so many comments. been to florida b4 and made alot of nice friends there. I went with my friend and the first night we were there we ate in this burger bar and from then on wards the staff paid for our meals and drinks and took us out every night for two weeks after thed finished work. when we left even had a party for us on the last night. every American I spoke to where just so friendly. funny thing was we kept getting asked what part of Australia we are from lmao and I'm a brit lol. u being there in florida brought back my nice memories of the nicest holiday I ever had.

Publix is amazing. We took in a stray cat that needed anti-biotics. We paid for the vet bill but the meds would have been pricey. The vet assistant told us to go to Publix and just give them the prescription and that they would fill it for free. I did... and they did! Blew my mind. Great Company. Years later a mom in Publix ahead of me had to put back some baby formula, as she did not have enough money....but I did. : ) Love paying it forward! Good begets good. 🤗

Went through Matthew in Jacksonville. It was not my idea of a good time. Lost our 14 year old Golden Retriever Bailey as a result...she couldn't stand the stress. She always HATED storms, she just could not get away from it. Good thing you went inland.

We had to evacuate Disney's Fort wilderness campground because of hurricane Matthew. It was fun though the parks were empty and Disney put us up at one of there other resorts.

Yes, our time in St. Augie was brief. I drove into town over the bridge looking for a SBUX to work and saw such great history and culture. I wanted to come back the next day with the family, but then the storm moved in. Yes, it would have been great to meet for some coffee and talk about your upcoming trip. wow again great video. is so brill how u all get on so well and no rows. omg what a boat that was and it was beautiful. Did I hear an English accent from the guy on that boat? lol last night we just had a bad storm, heavy rain and gusts of 80mph and as I'm on the coast I lost few slates of my roof. in the 80s we had a bad hurricane and blew roof of my house and I'd never been so scared. anyhow your all amazing and love ur posts. a big thanks from me xx

Keep Your Daydream - The humor! My wife (we) is/are fluent in sarcasm and this had plenty! I need something to catch her eye to spark the interest in watching these videos. If I say watch this video of a family RV'ing around the country, it won't appeal to her. If the humor can open her eyes to lead her to watch, then she will see all of what is wonderful about seeing all of this great country this way. My thought was doing this in retirement but I can see the priceless value of sharing it WITH the kids. We have a 14 and soon to be 11 yr old boys. I suspect I will emailing you to pick your brain on the subject if that's alright.

Keep Your Daydream I agree. I started watching a few of the latest ones then stopped to start at the beginning. Trying to catch up. Learning about the links you're providing so I get side tracked easily. I'm quickly becoming a big fan. I like to make videos like these as a time capsule for my kids to treasure 20 years from now. hurricanes suck in Miami we boarded up all of our windows and we barely had any wind, I always keep bottled water batteries and canned food year-round just in case a hurricane decides to pop by. Better safe than sorry

Yeah, lots of work for nothing. Matt really jacked up our plans! We wanted more time in St. Augie. HOWEVER, we were not planning on stopping in Miami and Matt changed that. Instead of staying 1 day, we stayed 7.... so it all worked out.

After watching several of your videos it occured to me that it would be BRILLIANT if Trisha wrote a book entitled "Keep Your Daydream Cookbook....meals for your RV Adventures!" ......breakfast,lunch and dinner plus snacks....... Marc & Trish, Recently stumbled onto your videos & channel (better late than never, right?). Great job, I know constantly capturing footage is a labor of love! Commenting on this episode because I live about 20 minutes from Ocala (btw, pronounced "Oh-cal-uh") & had I followed you then, could offer a lot of hurricane advice. I laughed as you were contemplating routes and said to myself "there are much better (toll-free) routes to Miami, but the tolls are probably suspended due to the storm"... one of the few perks of hurricane life in Florida! Thanks Bill. This segment of our trip was actually a lot of fun. At the time it was full of indecision and changing plans, but looking back, it's one of the most memorable parts of SN1. Regarding the pronunciation of names, that's one of the drawbacks of video. Often what gets recorded is us reading the name on a map for the first time. When we arrive and hear the locals say it, we know better and then years later we're still being corrected ;) All part of the fun. Alaska had some tough names, but nothing compared to New Zealand now.

Omg. You guys missed tybee island/beach!!!!!! It was the only thing about Savannah I'd "go back for". However I do plan to go back and spend more time, I was having a crisis at home while trying to be on vacation and we had to beat our flight back to Savannah the same afternoon.

Vilano Beach, adjoining St. Augustine to the north got flooded quite badly with lots of wind damage and beach erosion. We have friends who live there and saw their FB pictures. Good thing you guys got out of there when you did. Now I see where you are timeline wise .... about 3 weeks behind :-) You're probably already in the Keys (and left by now) and learned about the RV park prices there :-) Looking forward to your account of that part of your adventure.

Thanks. Yeah, the channel runs 4-6 weeks behind. Not by design, we just collect more footage each week than we're able to produce. Oct went faster than normal. We arrived in Austin on Nov 1, which means we hit the entire state in 1 month. Way too fast... but we did it all. Only stayed at one spot for 2-3 days.

Yes, next week is Miami. Then the Everglades, Key West, Sarasota, St. Petes, Destin, New Orleans, Austin! Phew... won't be back until Dec and that will end Season 1. :)

The more I watch these, besides thinking all the time more and more what a super woman -super wife and mother Trish is, Im starting to think what a cool daddy this man is. Also sometime back I began to see a resemblance if only slight to Justin Timberlake. I mean they are just such a fun couple and awesome family, the 20 min video seems like 5 minutes, it flies by if not for my battery going down I wouldnt realise. Now I have to recharge again to watch more, or go to.my other back up phone which I only had in.the past week, without my main.phone charger, using up all its weak battery watching espisodes while I couldnt afford to spend it on youtube but couldnt resist getting in a few, such a joy to watch these guys no matter the kid configuration, each has their unique offspring of trish and mark cuteness, but all 3 kids is always nice when you see them all together, with mother and father duck now that some baby ducks are all grown up & have had to fly off out of the nest a bit...
