I level our Blackstone by leveling our foldout table as best as possible, which I often use a couple of the plastic leveling blocks, and final adjustments by unscrewing the feet on the Blackstone. You don't need shims. Obviously, you can only unscrew so far.

I always keep the gray water valve closed just like the black water. After flushing the black water the grey water acts as a second flush that helps clean the line. Just be sure to watch your gauge because shower water fills it up really fast.

We had an older camper that we'd take on rough roads to get to remote areas. The drawers and even the fridge would open sometimes. I solved the problem by using toddler proof clips. They were always visible, yes, but the doors never opened again with the safety clips.

More Black tank advice is if your setup is long term (a month or more) and you use a massarator because you can't dump fast from your tank, I dump into a Blue Boy first to get the tanks to empty fast then run the Massarator off the blue boy tank, if you always use the Massarator on the RV outlet solids won't flush out properly and you will get a sludge buildup anyway. It's easier to flush a blue boy than the tanks in your RV . The RV tanks won't evacuate properly if it's emptied slowly.

I have always carried a battery charger in our rig. If your converter goes bad during your stay, you won't have any 12 volt lights because the batteries won't be charging from the shore power. Connect the battery charger to charge your batteries and you'll have lights again until you can replace the converter.

Hey Ross, thanks for doing these videos and sharing your thoughts. We've been camping for 30 years and I have learned a few things and appreciated some of your hacks as well, like the command hooks in the sky-light. I also noticed the Knoebel's hoodie and the park in the background in a short video shot. That park is our families favorite and has been for nearly as long as we've been camping. Keep up the good work, my friend!

Thanks so much for the Boshield tip. My tt is brand new and, already, the stabilizers are so incredibly rusted that it’s a challenge to open/close them. Love your content, so clearly spoken and the editing is so well done.. Few of our tips come to mind,. if you have an awning with support right where the door wants to open into it, when it not in the tent vertical position but still clipped to latch, take piece of pool foam noodle 6inch, slit it lengthwise and place it on the awning bar where the door would hit it as buffer. Anothet one is the battery box. The vents on top. Water always got in thru ours , just minute but it was enough to sit and fill the wells in plastic housing where the screws in bottom are. Rusting them perpetually. Put some Rtv silicone on the vent holes in box lid and problem solved. It is not air tight lid by any means so any gas from battery could not accumulate under there even if you begged it to.

One thing I have done before we dump the grey tank is to pour about 4 to 5 ounces of Simple Green down each drain. This not only makes the drain smell fresh but more importantly it breaks down any oil/grease that may have washed into the drain and tank. I run hot water down the drain then dump the grey tank. We always travel with about a gallon or so of water in the grey tank and a couple of gallons in the black tank. With over 20 years of RVing and we have never had any issues with our grey or black tanks.

Thanks again for another great video! I have a couple tips you can share. For the slide out rubber seals in and out I clean them and use tire foam on rags to keep the rubber softer and protected from weather so it doesn’t give me any problems. I also keep my knife valves closed because a camper I met left his open at a site and a rat climbed up through the sewer - he heard noises under his toilet in the black tank his wife freaked out. I saw a roof vent open lid blow off a camper on the highway it hit a motorcycle the guy wiped out.

Excellent Ross!! Enjoyed your suggestions! speaking of which looks like your rig has a TV. any suggestions for securing the TV that is mounted to a swing arm ie up and down vibrations from rough roads?
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Год назад
if you tighten down the bolts in the swing arms to increase the friction you may be able to get them more rigid so they are tougher to move. you can also use velcro straps. this is a great question and maybe something I cover in my next hacks video.

I have one of your hacks already,the pry bar.I don’t like leaving my hitch on my car when all set up at a campsite.I bought a receiver and bolted it on the trailer frame just behind the blue ox swivel on the frame. I remove my ball hitch and slide it on to the receiver,nice no more bruised shins.

For those drawers that keep popping open you can use child safety locks. You can by one's that you can turn on and off so they're not such a pain in the ass when you're set up (non travel days)

Regarding the gray valves being open and leaving a trap in the hose... Not a bad idea, but completely unnecessary in the vast majority of cases. Every sink, shower, and tub drain will, itself, have a trap itself. This is what keeps the gray tank stink from backing up into the camper. Any sewer stink that might back up as a result of leaving the valve open will vent out the roof. That stink *may* find it's way back into an open window or roof vent, but it's not coming thru the drains. Leaving a trap in the stinky slinky will help prevent that from occurring.

Question, stack blocks under your stabilizers. So Jack pads are useless, they don’t add one bit more stability because the connection between the foot on both are are the same. You push Jack pads. What am l missing?
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS 11 месяцев назад
Hey Greg, I'm a little confused on your question, but Ill try to answer what I think you are asking.... whether you're using blocks or the ground, snap jacks still add increased surface area over the foot that comes on the factory stabilizer jacks. I have definitely noticed not only increased stability using blocks and the ground, but also noticed much less of an occurance of having to reset the jacks after the trailer has settled.

I’m wondering if leaving the gray water open would allow the various bits of whatever and greasy stuff to flow out immediately, rather than settle to the bottom of the tank. Also, seems like the P traps in the sink and shower would keep any gasses from coming back into the living space, thus eliminating the need to create a belly in the hose. Anyway, that’s my two cents, but you’re way more experienced than I, so, it’s only one cent 😊…thanks for your tips.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Год назад
Good points Tony. What I’ve found with tanks though is that they are flat on the bottom, and depending on how level your camper is, rinsing something down the sink doesn’t mean it’s going to stay with the water and immediately go down the tank drain, especially if it doesn’t float. You are correct about the drain traps too, but by creating the hose trap you keep sewer smells out of your gray tanks and out of the camper completely. It’s definitely a second line of defense, but if for some reason your drain trap water evaporates or dissipates, that could be bad. Appreciate the input and thanks for watching bud.
@luminousveiws
@luminousveiws Год назад
You don't need a P trap in your hose! Every drain has a vapor lock already. The toilet has a seal and the black tank has a vent. If you have odors one of these isn't working properly.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS

fruit flies from the sewer can get into your pipes and into the rv if you leave gray tanks open without a p trap.

Can you do a video on permanent RV's in camp grounds? I am a new owner of a permanent RV in a campground resort. Many of your tips can be used on this type of RV I know, but would like to know what is different in maintenance of my type of RV & the travel RV's you talk about. Thanks!
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Год назад
Not much difference, you just won’t have to maintain the moving parts as much…. Tires, wheel bearing grease, etc… things will be easier if the unit is permanently parked. Just follow owners manual maintenance time frames as usual.
