Interesting! I never knew the electric operation was just a heater to emulate the flame. I assumed it had to be a separate compressor. Do you know if 3-way fridges are also just heaters? To get the same wattage, that's a lot of amps at 12V!
Yes the 12 volt operation is also a heating element, that's why they recommend your engine is running while operating in 12 vdc mode, lots of amps, hard on the battery.
