Just wanted to thank you both for helping us get through this pandemic. The missus and I found your channel and decided to hit the playlist that starts from the beginning. With a few videos a day, it's taken months to travel around the world with you and vicariously renovate an RV as well. Your videos are beautifully shot, funny, informative, and entertaining. Thanks again. 👍
If you are having the engine rebuilt in Chicago, maybe you might want to consider a more "up to date" engine that has more power. You can actually order crate engines that have about 300 horsepower for pretty cheap (2500) and that would really help. Plus those come with a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty.
I know you guys mentioned in a previous vlog how people diss the look of the exterior. But just know, we think it’s hella fly 🙌 We can’t wait to see you guys on the road in this beaut.
If where you're goin' in the RV is warm, E-bikes could be a thing... They're light enough & small enough to attach to the back of the RV and not get in the way... ☺
You guys might want to reconsider the generator thing, it can be a REAL lifesaver if you are stuck in bad weather. You could also consider ebikes instead of a tow behind vehicle. They take up less space, weigh a lot less, and charge on your system. With as thin as you two are you would probably get great mileage out of them and then there is fuel cost. Towing a car will eat more fuel than towing a bike rack, and you won't need to gas up the bikes like you would a car, just a thought.
As you finish up your lovely RV, you might want to consider adding an undercarriage 10 gallon liquid tank connected to your wet tank in your composting toilet that can be dumped like any black tank, other people with composting toilets say with two people they fill the wet tank daily. You may also want to be able to access your toilet from an outside compartment if possible. Others have complained about having to carry the toilet/waste through the RV to clean out. ;)
Kara and Nate use the Harvest Host. They seem to like it. I'm sure you guys can talk to them and get their advise about it. I cant wait to see you guys on the road ... good luck.
Eric.. When the mechanic look into the RV power train, please don't forget the rear axel, drive shaft, U-joints and also the suspension. I hope the RV makes it to Chicago and do a before and after the repair up there.
You're correct about One thing leads to another...2 years ago I started to reglue a loose wall in our newly purchased 30 year old class A when I discovered mold. That led to discovering a 30 year old leak and by now We've done over 100 repairs, upgrades and modifications. I've kept a list but haven't updated it for a few months. But, in the process we've learned about every aspect of the RV, including the engine and the electric systems. We feel intimately attached to every square inch since we've worked on every square, and cubic, inch. It feels more personal than just buying a new RV. I removed our Onan generator by building a slanted ramp with 3 long 2" X 6" boards with legs at the high end and using a "Come-along" to slide it to the ground while still attached to it's bottom-plate.
I've been wanting to try Magic Spoon for a while and heard Aldi's carried it. I went there and no such luck. So glad they sponsored you. I just ordered it and got the $5 off. Can't wait for it to arrive!
Instead of buying a small car to tow around buy 2 scooters. They're economical, easy to find parking and so much fun. And you can buy a double bike carrier that attaches to your hitch.
did anyone else get flashbacks to Chirs Farley in Wayne’s World when Eric talked about going to Chicago? 🤔😂 love you guys💕 thanks always for your effort of making and sharing these vids
You should look into Bureau of Land Management camping availability. They have some beautiful off grid land that you can camp on for a little bit of money as long as you are self sustaining.
My 1975 GMC Midas mini is stripped to the bare frame and I took another couple of sides off another one to rebuild mine so much work but fun looking forward to seeing more of your videos God bless be safe ✝️🇺🇸
You can go to Lou Mitchell’s in Chicago for breakfast It’s the beginning of Route 66 The Indiana Dunes National Park is an hour from Chicago with a nice campground
Study to get your drone license or someone mean will try to report you like they did Kara and Nate and you won't be able to use drone footage. Also there's a thing about filming in national parks that Kara and Nate got dinged pretty hard with too, so be careful!
A federal judge has struck down as unconstitutional the National Park Service's practice of charging commercial filmmakers who want to shoot in the National Park System, ruling it is a protected activity under the First Amendment.
You're doing great! And as long as you have power (not even 30amp power), a normal cheap space heater will heat that puppy up day and night with no issues. We winter camp in our 36 ft. travel trailer using just one space heater and it will keep it 70 degrees with no problem. Plus, winter camping is fun!
Ditch the carb. Go with a Holley sniper EFI system. Don’t spend any money on old systems. If the generator works keep it. You will use it and if it’s in place keep it. The weight isn’t that significant. You can always add bigger sway bars and beef up the springs. Today’s modern tires can support a lot more weight.
Good call with getting a shop to rebuild the engine. Even-though she's running fine now, chances are it wont when you're driving up the Colorado Rockies in the middle of summer. :)
Uk Subscriber, - for what to have as a vehicle behind, over here a lot of people use SMART cars (mini-mercs) on smaller RVs than you have. Far cooler if you can find the open top coupe! It may be small but sooo cute and cool fun. Probably the coupe not for Eric (but it drives well!), but Alison, absolutely! And damn, have you guys continued to be a shining light for honest, simple enojoyment of life, in a time and world that has got far too complicated. Thank you!
Hey guys things looking good .......you’s have to do another trip to the uk do more vlogs over here...would love to meet and show you places you’ve missed....take care ❤️
I wholeheartedly want to agree with Ian Evans. I so look forward to your videos. I used to travel a lot, especially in my 20’s, and would still be traveling if I could, but health reasons (in part related to COVID-19) require that I stay mostly in my apartment. I’m a Senior Citizen, happily retired, and I have been following you for a couple of years, when you used to get lost in exotic places, some of which I have been able to “revisit” (from when I used to travel as far north as Alaska, and in much of Europe including Amsterdam) vicariously through your wonderful videos. ...As someone who can barely assemble a simple IKEA table, I admire your tenacity in putting the “camper” together. ....Thanks so much for your positivity and good humor...You are both hilarious, especially when something gets in the way....And I love it when you swoon over the local culinary delight and especially anything involving alcohol....I hope that you don’t find it creepy for me to say that your interaction as a couple is a big part of what makes your channel so attractive.
Big Bend NP in Texas is phenomenal around November- January. A prius could work as a tow? We just visited all the beaches from Hilton Head, jekyll island to destin if you want to check those out- definitely warm spots ♡
As an Englishman I’m very happy to get on board with the sweet/savoury on the same plate thing that Americans love so much but Turkey and cheese in a waffle, covered in icing sugar WITH STRAWBERRY JAM???? I’m drawing the line right there 😐 😉. Loving the RV plans, and because I’m nosey 🤥 at the end of the project I’d love to know how much you bought if for, how much you spent renovating it and the new valuation so we can see how much value you added. Love your channel, Matthew, Manchester x
@@lmaree200886 I love Turkey and cranberry sauce but the cranberry sauce we get in the U.K. is very tart, unlike strawberry jam! Im liking the chicken and waffles idea though 🙂
Had a 1999 Ford Class C for 2 years. Did a lot of repair on it. Sold it last summer as plan to update to a truck and 5th wheel. We live in MN and drove it to CA and FL 2 winters. You are doing a great job. More than I did, but I suggest you tear off the roof and install new rubber roofing. Patching old RV roofs is an exercise in futility. Earlier flooring episodes I saw that someone said the steel and aluminum placed together would cause corrosion issues. I do believe that is false as engines and transmissions are construction with both these metal together. Tore it up for nothing. Camping in an Rv is fun. Gasoline was always an issue us. 7 mpg with the Ford V10 no matter the weather or towing.
I love my Harvest Host/Boondocker's Welcome membership! I'm more of a weekend warrior. Spent last weekend at a winery and attended their wine and food festival. Amazing stuff. We have a summer tradition of breakfast at a berry farm in Connecticut. Thank you for taking us along for the ride. Safe travels.
My best friend was from Joliet, too!:) We went thru Boot Camp at MCRD San Diego in 1987. We were in two different Platoons, but we went thru NAS Memphis, and got the same MOS 6072, GSE (Ground Support Equipment). He, his wife and two kids now live in Cary, NC. We both got orders to MCAS Camp Pendleton, CA. Ooh Rah, Devil Dog! Semper Fidelis
We've loved watching your RV journey! Y'all are so close! Also, it's sunny and 75 degrees in Florida right now, just sayin 😉 Safe travels, friends! -Ben and Ang
Fiat 500 is about as small as you can get. Definite need for a couple of bikes, electric ones would be cool. I'd probably pick those over a car for your style of RV'ing. Going a bit off road with a car dragging along behind not the best idea. Your current generator space would be handy for housing a small portable Honda one.
You guys are the BEST!! Your content has been on point since DAY 1! Haha, what you mean is..... “We want to make sure we get things done professionally so it causes less headaches!” You have been so sensible through the whole process! Unlike what Kara & Nate have done with their van! 🙄 They’re gonna kill themselves coz they are trying to save money! Luckily, you guys are very, very smart and have completed the build with common sense in mind!
I am so impressed with the hard work you've done! The RV is looking great! I am so excited to see it finished and for your upcoming RV travel adventures. Thank you for bringing us along! :0)
Once the engine work is all done and the transmission...Make sure you put a set of "Performance Headers" on the engine...This will increase your horsepower, torque, and gas mileage...
If you really want to be more efficient and reliable with the engine, have the rebuild include a FiTech or Holley fuel injection system to replace the carburetor. If you can budget for that upgrade it will make for more efficient running in hot, cold, high altitude etc. Check these out online and see the benefits.
Yall have a great sense of humor. Just bought my first coach a couple months ago so I get the excitement. Buying magic spoon as a gift. Dan bongino swears by it too. Crazy stats on it!
A modern engine swap would be better like a 5.3L ls motor and transmission. Better fuel mileage, better ware and tear, cruising speed and if you plan on towing another vehicle, its definitely a must.
I think there is a paint (or something similar) that could be applied to the roof, which is designed to reflect heat off of the roof, resulting in 5-8 deg changes in outside vs inside temps. I suggest using that paint, while redoing the roof. It might help the AC/power consumption as well..
If you have the budget, you should consider fuel injection. You mentioned reliability and FI would be a good addition. They make FI conversions that look like carbs.
I would still recommend that you get a small inverter generator just in case you run into bad weather for longer than your solar system can accommodate. A 2000watt inverter generator will weigh less than 50 pounds and a small Onan will weigh about 200+pounds.
Great Video guys. A little idea. Save the space from the Generator. Then look into replacing that Onan Generator with a Honda Inverter Generator. They are lighter, cheaper, quieter, more economical to run and are also easier to repair than the Onan's.
Hey y'all, I had one of those RVs, it was a 1978 model, please check what kind of engine it is, mine had a small block 400 6.6, which are extremely desirable in autoracing. Those engines are bullet proof. You can tell what kind of engine you have, it says on a decal on the hood. The 16.5 tires as you know are not very common, I would suggest looking on Craigslist for some used dually 16's wheels and put some regular 16" tires. Just wanted share that with y'all. Y'all be safe in your travels!
Hello!! You mentioned going to Texas first because you want to avoid the cold. Late spring in the upper midwest is the best time to visit, no mosquitos!! Minnesota and Wisconsin have amazing campgrounds and history! Head south in the late summer and fall when it is warmer in the south. I would love to see more videos from the northern states since you have tended to stay south.
Been following you guys for a couple of years now. Look forward to every new video. Great editing, awesome shots and just seem like really lovely people. After this pandemic ends you’ll have to come down and do an RV trip around Australia. Can give you plenty of tips 😉
Thank you so much, David - so happy to have you along for the adventures! And that would be amazing! There's so much more exploring to do in Australia 😍
I am almost 70 years old and love kids cereal. The wife yells at me about the sugar. I have never commented on any video. I love your videos and had to let you know I just order my first case of Magic Spoon.
Good luck finishing the RV! You may want to consider carrying two scooters instead of towing a car. It would be cheaper, lighter weight, more economical and environmental friendly, removes the driving hazard of towing something, you can go in different directions if the desire or need arises and it would serve your purpose of not needing to move the RV every time you just need to pickup something from the store or doing day trips. The biggest drawback would be rain but if you are in a warm area....who cares. Just another option and options are good.
Proud of you guys...keep on truckin' or...RV'ing...whatever...just keep going. Looking forward to a whole new leg of this....Endless Adventure. Love ya both...blessings.
I LIVE for your channel!! My husband and I based our 1 month Europe trip from your videos in 2019. And, I love the RV series. I can’t wait to see the finished product!!! ♥️
FYI rvs and parks have date restriction, I know its all new,but the cut off date is 10 years or younger check on where your planing on going how there rules are ,also putting in storage ,theres a few who dont care but not meney love the updates and your both so cute together, thank you
@@tpaairman wow, expensive 😩 I guess with solid ingredients though, they have to make money somewhere. We’re in New Zealand at the moment so not even going to try to order, but still a very interesting idea!!!
You should consider visiting Texas Renaissance Festival this fall!! It's a TON of fun and they have great facilities for RVs (plus the price is hard to beat for a weekend of camping).
I have seen a few of these on the road. Went to dealship when they first were selling here. Seems to be a scary ride driving such a small vehicle. I thought they'd be less expensive and get better mileage too. Electric Chevy Bolt would be my chose for a vehicle that is designed for the future. I test drove these for GM- amazing acceleration, over 200 miles per charge. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-27WpEutQCRw.html
@@ewern we own an older ForTwo petrol. Don’t need 200 mile range for what we use it for. In the UK there is a fantastic following for them. The are love or hate cars but we absolutely love it.
for the shower or any spot that will possibly get touched by water, you can use a product called AquaDefense (Lowes) or RedGuard (HomeDepot). That way if you have a leak there is no way the wood can be hurt cause its sealed with a paintable rubber membrane. I also use it on any surface that is exposed to water (like the roof)
New Fan! Ordinary Adventures spoke highly of your vlogs during a live & they were right. Can't wait to watch your Sri Lanka videos! That was my home for 3 yrs.💛
So many good decisions here. Engine rebuild, not playing with water or gas. Totally the right way to go and get it done. I have gone the other path and believe me when your boiler bursts into flames it is not a happy time. Looking forward to the first trip and beyond. Cool vlog!
Sorry to hear that, but ya, that's exactly why we'd like to get some help with those projects. 😅 Hopefully your RV didn't get too damaged in the fire. 🙁
you could sell the big generator , there worth quite a bit if running make sure you add the onboard controller i would still get a smaller portable generator with you , its still cheaper to run the generator a few hours to charge the batteries compared to replace the batteries because there discharged too far , its allso handy when running powertools off grid
We’re thinking we will get a little car to tow. My British brain “yeh get a little c1 / aygo” Eric “Maybe like a little Jeep” (Jeeps are not small towing cars 🤣🤣🇬🇧🇬🇧)
Electric Bikes!! Those sound like a super fun way to explore away from the RV. And you can probably store them in or on the RV so less length than towing.
