This is cheaper than getting the single roll from a box store. This has 2 rolls. (Lowes, Menards, Home Depot... etc) Check to make sure 10 feet (120 inches is long enough.... it was for mine)
We have done a lot of renovations to our RV. We have tinted the side windows, bought MCD blackout shades and even installed a Mini Split! We are trying to insulate the best we can so we can survive the extreme heat that comes from summer down south. One of the major sources of heat came from solar heat gain through our massive front windshield. Why we never thought of this before is beyond me. This is a simple DIY project that is easily one of the cheapest and fastest rv renovation projects we have ever done.
The product is called Reflectics and you can get it on Amazon for around 35 bucks for 2 rolls. 1 roll did our entire windshield. Measure, cut and slide in place. It blacks out the windshield too which is a huge plus as our previous sun shade was only light filtering. If you are headed south in the summer... you have to try this for your rv.

Indeed. External covers are cooler, but they do cost quite a bit more. If you can swing it… magneshade.com/product/windshield-shade/?gad_source=1 Are amazing but they are spendy 🤑

I like it! Great job! I may abandon my shade with a bad motor. Fleetwood riveted the dang thing making it very difficult to do an otherwise easy electric motor change out. You have come up with an easy alternative. Yours covers the whole windshield as well. Mine has six inches of open glass on each end when it worked. Thanks!

Ours had a corrugated sun shade but it was only light filtering. This blocks the light 100 percent and adds insulation from the sun. Really makes a difference and was not that expensive

Thanks again, I will take it all under advisement!

We did the same with reflectex on our front windshield (2000’ U320) - makes a big difference. We also replaced the pleated blinds with blackout cellular shades which block an additional 20 degrees than the reflectex alone (at 120f temp outside). We also found it stores nicely when folded in half under the mattress. Keep the project videos on your foretravel coming - I always appreciate them.

Thanks! We will do that. I have always had fun trying to build this into a boondocking rig. Worked well so far. We have the MCD blackout shades around the sides but the front still left the corrugated ones . Perhaps a future upgrade

Great job on measuring and cutting for an exact fit. I've actually been looking at that same reflective material on Amazon and now after seeing you complete the project, it looks like a project that works out very well. Thanks for showing how you did the project step by step with good detail!

Glad it helped. Did you ever get around to getting it done. It does help and has held up well.

Great job! Are you planing to sew a border around the new shade to keep it from freying around the edge?
@TheHappyHootie
@TheHappyHootie Год назад
No and with the use it has had I have not seen that it is really fraying. If over time it does then I have enough to make a second one.
