Videos like this is the reason I follow your class A travels. You and your lovely wife make the trips so much interesting along with them not being 20 + mins. can't wait for more, thanks.
boy are those roads narrow. pretty scenery. good thing since at places it was so slow going. have a great evening and enjoy your dinner with a cold one. great video. thanks for taking me with you to Mexico as I will probably never get there. thanks lol Joyce
Just want to say thank you guys so much for the travels that you guys do. Before my kids came along (they don't live with me) I traveled a great deal internationally. They're in their teens now and in a few years more I'll be able to get back to it. Until then, I live through you guys. Edit: Aahhh, I just realized ka1133 described it better than me - your "adventuresome spirit." God, I miss that.
It is weird feeling to see such a huge military presence. I felt the same in France, the military presence at the Eiffel Tower was intense, the military had the big automatic weapons out. We have an airforce base in Albuquerque so we have military personnel, but they are not regularly seen carrying around the big weapons. Like you said... no need to be alarmed.
ABQdoubleG ... Correcto, 'NO NEED TO BE ALARMED' 😬 .... as a youngster, mid 1950's, we traveled with our parents extensively through Mexico and there was always checkpoints 😬 ... my parents were always prepared to offer those at the checkpoints with US snacks or SOCKS 🙄 ... it worked beautifully 😀
Awesome! Thanks for all the good "boots on the ground" information. We're headed to Baja in the next week or two and were planning the same route down past San Felipe' and on south. I was having trouble finding out if this particular route was navigable in a big RV. Well, you just answered it for me. Muchas Gracias! Look for the 2018 version of Baja at OutsideIsCalling : )
The problem is that the dirt road will likely stay that way for a long time. The envroronmental crybabies from America have been against paving the enitire road.
Chilly Willy ... 'environmental crybabies', I think that's what you were trying to say, are the ones who will allow your children & grandchildren too enjoy Baja like you do 😡 ... don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution cowboy 😏
I envy both of you for your willingness to push the envelope and explore areas that ... well quite frankly I will never do. If I was younger and had the same adventuresome spirit that you both have ... that would have been different. I was actually holding my breath for you as you travelled on the gravel roads and also going through the military check points. Enjoy the adventure and I'm looking forward to seeing you enjoy your evening with some good food and drinks. Rebecca ... only one Margarita for you!!! LOL :)
ka1133 .... there's been checkpoints of one sort or another since as far back as I can remember, mid 1950's. 🤔 ... my parents always went prepared with snacks or socks to offer those at the checkpoints 🤔 ... It works ✌🏽️
thank you for this video!!! always wondered what the road was like south of San Felipe. Will be chasing for the Baja 1000 in November and needed to know
Yeah, I couldn't figure that BCS "checkpoint". Policia Estatal, I think. There's no police inspection going from El Sur to El Norte. El Norte has all the agriculture, so what's the problem in Sur? Some suggest it's just a tourist tax. I don't know, but 20 pesos is nothing. Malarrimo has a good bar, with a large tequila selection.
Enjoy Guerrero Negro my Town and please go to visit the Scamoon Lagoon, the salt mines, and one place we call LA Isla they have fresh seafood ok God Bless your trip and please share your videos
@@outliersoverland I would like to see all of Mexico's roads improved. I would not be surprised if Mexico 5 becomes a Cuota, because of what looks like a tool booth in Google satellite imagery at N29 48 43 W114 25 05 It could be a military checkpoint, toll both, or both.
in Mexico you need to stay alert. one more than one occasion I have been flying down a well maintained road and have it end with minimal to no warning.
Not only would it leave a large hole in your forehead you would loose the ability to see into the fourth dimension. Even though purchasing sunglasses is simpler without it.
Damn you guys like to drive 😑 ... I'd of called it at Cantavina 😅 ... good bar and chilling 😌 ... what year is this video 🤔 ... I've heard the road from Puertocitos to hwy 1 was great 😳 ... ENJOY, I hope to do southern baja soon ✌🏽️
Beware if you drive that in the future, there is one tool booth that I could see on Google Earth satellite imagery at N29 48 43 W114 25 05 So it looks like they are going to make Mexico 5 Cuota road, though that is the only toll booth I can find on Mex 5, right now, on Google Earth. A lot of the new roads in Mexico are Cuotas, but would worth the money, as they are safer and faster than the roads they have replaced.
You have a good reason to be People are putting drugs in the vehicles of unsuspecting people to get their stuff If you ever drive in Mexico cover up the vin number on your windshield so some can't take that number and get a key made Also, some drug kingpins put tracking devices on cars so they can find your car and purmt the drugs in later.
I just decided not to RV Baja on the way back from Puerto Vallarte. I hate those super narrow Mexican roads with no shoulders. I drove one going into San Miguel Allende and I almost caused a multi-car disaster.
Question. Did you bring your firearms with you into Mexico? The military inspection checkpoints didn't seem t give you a hassle, so I get the impression that you didn't bring them.
That would be a sure way to earn a 1 way trip to a Mexican jail. Dont ever carry a gun or even a bullet to mexico. Some hunters do go hunting but you have to do paperwork in advance to carry your rifle.
It's funny that the soldier searching the motorhome said "thank you" as he was leaving and you said "gracias". I wonder if he speaks English and just sees if he can catch people thinking he doesn't understand.
We meet all kinds of soldiers at these stops. One guy came inside our RV and made a 5 minute phone call to his wife because he couldn’t be seen talking on the phone outside. Lol.
It depends on the type of bike and if you’re willing to get it dirty. Sounds like fun to me!!! I heard a report yesterday the 5 south of San Felipe is in horrible condition with construction and the usual hazards.
Did it on KLR 650 October 2018 - many miles of pavements washed out on Mex 5. Turned around in La Paz, didn't know if tire would more than 2200 miles, came back through Ensenada - couple hundred miles tread left. I'm 68, all I thought about was next trip. Do it! Savor it -
Thanks for watching. We put together this video with friends. It will help answer almost all your questions. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7aZfeyaLSFo.html
Naw, they probably just charged you 20 pesos for the "spray" and sprayed WATER up onto the bottom of the RV. ROFL. (I'm a bit cynical when it comes to people these days. Everyone is scrambling to figure out a way to separate tourists from their $$ regardless of the country one is in it seems. For instance, California is NOTORIOUS for nickel and diming EVERYBODY, tourists and locals alike. One of the reasons I hate that state. It's a beautiful state, don't get me wrong. I just hate their attitude when it comes to fees.) All of those cactus along the side of the road as you were driving in looked so pretty to me. Safe travels, y'all!
So what would they have done if you didn't have any fruit in your RV? Would you have still had to pay for them to spray the underside of your RV??? For some reason that whole thing didn't make since to me. I think that I may have just grabbed that banana and ate it and then said not no more. And tried to keep my money... LOL... But on the other hand I don't think them guys have much of a since of humor. From things I've heard. Give them what they want which in this case was your money and just move on down the road. With the feeling of I just got ripped off but I'm rolling on down the road.... I got to wonder if that wasn't just plain water they sprayed under you rig. Because they weren't wearing any type of hazmat suits... Who knows :0P
Coco Puff You are one of them bandido. I travel from LA to Cabo San Lucas by car ones a year. But now you're the problem on that highway. Got to keep in eye on you
