As nice as the park seems, it was once forested with old-growth Douglas Fir, some of which were 7-8’ in diameter and hundreds of years old. There were Spotted Owls in the forest that were killed when State Parks logged the forest simply for revenue to build the new campground. I used to enjoy watching the young owls exploring the campground and they enjoyed watching the campers around their campfires. The area where the new campground is located was covered with second growth forest that was approaching 100 years old and beginning to support an old-growth habitat as well.

Thanks for bringing us along on another adventure!! If you’ve never done it before, I highly recommend the Cascade Loop in Washington and stopping where you can along the way (Leavenworth, Wenatchee, Lake Chelan, Winthrop, Diablo Lake, Sedro Woolley, Anacortes…!)

I love a great state park. They are my go to for camping trips. I also now use them as an alternative to staying in a hotel when visiting friends and family.

Nice video David. I looked the park up and the write up I saw said that the park has a number of historic buildings built by the CCC back in the 30s. I have some video suggestions for you. 1. Do an overview of the Washington State Parks system including some history. 2. Do a video on the connection between the CCC and the Washington state parks. Most of the parks I have been to had quite a few really cool buildings built by the CCC and many of the trails were also built by the CCC. I don't know if you are interested in that sort of stuff. Washington also has a number of parks that used to be military installations, particularly up around the northern part of Puget Sound and on the strait of Juan de Fuca. Those parks are quite interesting from the historical perspective. By the way buying the Travato seems to have boosted your RU-vid views and subs.

Nice park summary. We tend to like the state parks too, generally in Wisconsin. You may remember that they tend to be dry camping or electric only (with a dump station). But they are usually private, wooded and very pretty.

Schafer State Park is a great place for rv or tent camping. Things for both kids and adults. The side you call "the new side" is actually not new at all, it was logged off a couple years ago because the trees were getting to be very dangerous and getting to the end of their life. So after they logged the area they redid they access roads and the sites with new asphalt. I have lived 8 miles away for nearly 50 years and we go there to walk the trails with our dog. I have some great memories from Schaefer State Park.

Great review of the park. It was fun to see your take on the park. I stayed there with my family a couple years ago. You’re right about the close proximity to other campers in the old loop if you need hookups. There are some much more secluded spots which it looks like you could. Too bad you didn’t do the forest loop trail, it’s a great hike through some big trees. Good video. I’ll be back and the free wifi was a nice perk.

Do you trust your awning’s wind sensor? We don’t trust ours and never leave it out. Have seen too many damaged ones! Hope yours works better/always.

Went here last year; cute park, but not enough to do there to justify the drive IMO. Went to Kanaskat-Palmer last month, cool to see your video. I'd have a ton of suggestions for next year (remember the 9 month booking window for state parks) but as far as state parks you should check out, put Lake Chelan, Ocean City, or Pacific Beach on the list. Been camping since 2018 and still have plenty of new places to check out! My criteria for a perfect camping trip: WIFI/5G access, fresh water access, closeness to a town to get burgers, and activities - hiking/trails, sightseeing, etc. Hope to see your next video soon!

Thank you for the video of Shafer, David! We've been wondering if it would be improved enough for trailers when they opened in May. Do you prefer state parks or county parks or "rv resorts?" (I use that term very loosely!) I notice you don't put out a campchair whenever you arrive where you're headed. I'd highly suggest that---it's a wonderful way to relax and enjoy the quiet, to read or work on a hobby or something. We also take our bikes to go exploring further than just the hiking trails. Looking forward to your next video!

Live here and love this place, but doesn't compare to Wynoochee Lake ...check it out. You need reservations for the upper loop, bottom loop is 1st come first serve. Love your video and rig...Happy Camping

When camping and you find your site to be not great, do look around and then have a chat with registration. Hopefully you can swap for free, but if not just pony up for the better site, it's so worth it. You dont need hook ups! Since you are leaving your van in storage you should dump the water and then refill when yoi get to the park. If your site does not include water just back into a water site for the 8 minutes it takes to fill your tank. Also when leaving if there are sites with sewers you can back in and dump and avoid the dump station.

I live in Grays harbor. Keep driving. There are better places to go see in Grays Harbor. Lake Quinault is must to go see. The beaches are awesome. Have fun in Grays harbor 😊

@@RVJedeye There are no camping sites in Lake Quinault. You have to rough it. All the beaches have camping sites. All the Northern peninsula beaches are hiked in. Kalaloch has camping. I'm not sure if they have power? They do have running water. South beaches have vehicle access. 4x4 and AWD recommended. Moclips, Pacific Beach, Sea Brook, Ocean Shores, West Port, and Grayland beaches. The beaches have established camping sites.

How many months ago did you find your spot at the park? I'm coming to Washington to take my grandson tent camping, and we are park hopping from Fields Spring, Lewis & Clark Trl, Penrose Pt, Rainbow Falls, Twin Harbors, and Dash Point for a month long adventure. Weekends were full, so we'll be doing a friends backyard for two of the weekends. Thanks for sharing, Schafer, since we couldn't find a sight there for this trip.

👀 ...did you say, "Big Rig Friendly"???!!!! This is a wonderful park!!! I just love state parks and I'll begin venturing to all state parks within a 3 hour drive from my "Bricks & Sticks"! Thank you for sharing and encouraging us to "Get out there and RV!" !!! Question: How do you pick your RV Sites? Specifically the State Parks. Well for me it starts with how much I want water/electric hook ups. If I want them then it’s based on what the State Park app usually shows what’s available 🤓

Nice place. I noticed you only ate 1 pork chop. Soooo? Did you have the other for breakfast? Nothing better than left over pork chop and eggs for breakfasts. Great video that tie and button down was something. Haven't worn a tie since the early 90's, except for my wedding. Great video , Safe travels.

Coodos to yoh for driving in Seattle traffic after work. No thanks were starting to get everyone moving there up here where I live. Its awful between that and every one coming over the border I can't wait To get back on the mountain on the homestead where its peace and quiet and no neighbors. Cant wait to leave the PNW got my homestead for sale. Its not the same place anymore it has gotten way to big around here. Take good care stay safe.

Leaving the mountain and going to town is another story like another world and way to many people always glad to get back to the homestead and have peace and quiet and just the sound of wildlife and the creek when it is running. You going to get out and adventure other places besides parks. You take good care. Stay safe.

Sites are close but those tent sites were not bad. Was there much wildlife? Raccoons and the like? You know that campsites in Fl you have visitors.

Funny stuff, nothing says more about a person, than their ability to be happy all by themselves. If you need “someone” to be happy, you will never know what true happiness is. Enjoyed the video as usual. I have been there many times, mainly in the winter. They have an excellent salmon and steelhead run in that area.
