Whatever floats your boat, I guess... For me, seeing her actually _grow_ would have been more rewarding, instead of just returning to the status quo. A status quo where, by the way, her doubts are *perfectly justified* because SHE WAS RIGHT ABOUT NOT BEING GOOD ENOUGH (as evidenced by them losing every city they go to and try to defend).
@@Thescott16um That's what her "dying" and coming back is about. We'll just have to see if her outlook and prospective in things really did change. You are making an early judgment call.
@@KijoSamhain No I'm not... If you'd paid attention you know the whole lesson the smith-mother teaches Ruby while she's in the tree is, "You're fine the way you are." Which she clearly _ISN'T_ since she's lost *almost every major battle* she's fought, while the battle she won was not her doing (it was the Faunus standing up to the White Fang and Raven beating Cinder, Ruby wasn't even there for that), and now 2/4 human capitols have fallen. Her self-doubt was justified, and the clichéd lesson RT decided to go with was the wrong one for the situation because it's factually incorrect. If they'd done something more along the lines of "You can figure it out for yourself" or "You already know the answer" that would be different, because that leaves room for her to think for herself and grow herself.. But they didn't do that; they went with "You're fine the way you are", which is incorrect.
@@Thescott16 Dude you're missing the whole point. She was doubting herself as a whole. Not just as a hero or huntress, not just her battles but her as a whole person. For the most part she still does need to figure it out for herself however in order for her to keep doing that she needs to believe in herself first and foremost. Cause Ruby is enough other wise she wouldn't be the main character. So get your head out of your ass and stop hating.
@@KijoSamhain Read what you typed, then read what I typed again... Particularly the bit at the end. I didn't miss the point, I'm the only one here who got the point since I very literally said they _SHOULD_ have done what you said they did, but they _didn't actually do that AT ALL._ The whole point of giving a character a self-reflecting epiphany is to make them question what they were and be inspired to change; telling a character "You're find the way you are" is the opposite for a character like Ruby. That's not motivating her to change; it's instruction to remain the same. I know as a long-time (I'm assuming) RWBY fan you've probably been subsisting on copium in regards to the writing and story so you can make it from sweet fight scene to sweet fight scene, so I'm going to be patient with you (I was once there too for a while, it takes one to know one). But I recommend dropping the copium, you're only excusing mistakes and sloppy production that keep preventing RWBY from being great instead of just good. In this instance you're confusing what's really there, with what you _think_ is there or _want_ to be there. You're operating on an assumption and inserting that assumption as true. But here's the thing; good writing doesn't rely on assumptions for character development. Questions or problems arise, solutions are offered and discussed, and a path is chosen. No room should be left for the viewer to have to assume things to fill in any blanks. Worst case scenario at this point is that you turn out to be right. While you may think that's some rando on the internet being petty, take a moment to think... Because if you turn out to be right about this, then it means RT has actually gotten even _worse_ at writing characters on a technical level.
Honestly, you really have to hand it to Neo in Volume 9. Not only did she completely break Ruby's spirit and her own, but she went on to destroy both of the Brothers' first creations that are older than any being on Remnant. The girl is an absolute wrecking ball to everything throughout the Ever After.
I'm hoping neo ends up getting a spin-off of her own and her adventures in the ever after. There's so many anchors to explore and was hoping we could see them all. Plus it would be better if she was accompanied by somewhat and juniper even though she killed little 😅
@@Yashieyama She honestly does, especially since her Semblance can be used in SO MANY WAYS. She has the summoning capabilities of the Schnee’s, along with the ability to trick people and disguise easily like Emerald, and the ability to dodge attacks like Blake.
@@Yashieyama I think Neo will more likely reappear in some crazy clutch way towards the end of the series having finally made peace with everything after tree therapy time. Wouldn't be surprised if she was the one to kill Cinder.
A tiny detail that I absolutely love from this seasons is seeing each of them beginning to respect and accept their comrades fighting style because now they know they compliment each other. In this season, whenever a fight is about to start they would always look at each other, whereas in the few seasons before this, they sometimes never bothered to. It's even more apparent in the Mini-Chess episode where the 3 of them looked to Ruby for guidance because now they accept the fact that she's most likely the one who can think creatively and accept the flaws of her comrades to turn those flaws into something of a synchronized team.
Volume 9 redeemed so much of the story for me, like it feels like after everything there’s been major improvement especially the fight scenes. Nice to see Weiss doing more than summoning, more cool combos, Blake and Yang, just so much of this volume has been so amazing
@@jericlubag9121 Blake has already been using dust with her semblance for a long time. We've seen her pop an ice clone against those faunus twins back in V5, and then an ice clone, fire clone and a lightning clone during a grimm chase in V7, and then an ice clone again against the big centipede grimm.
I absolutely love how Ruby finally overcame her despair and helped her friends defeat the Cat, though I was hoping for a Semblance evolution from her but overall it was so cool.
There was a slight one with the dodge to mid air shot move she busted out, that’s the shortest distance and most control she’s displayed with it so far
if you look carefully during the final Cat fight, she has reddish outlines from where Crescent Rose was when she swung. that might've been some sort of evolution of her Semblance, or just a visual effect.
Remember when Team RWBY and JNR had their first job with the Ace Ops? Remember how impressed they were that they didn't need to plan out their attacks and were completely in sync? Team RWBY has now achieved that. They are no longer individuals fighting for their own reasons. They are a true team.
this volume really took me back to vol 2 where team rwby fought as a unit and it made me so happy,,, like at 12:10 we havent seen this freezerburn move in forever 😭😭
@@williamrojas6371 Yes Ruby is rose, Weiss is snowflake, Blake is black cat, and Yang is sunflower . But I didn’t put Jaune so, Basically he is shield🛡️
It's nice to see how they seem to finally find the right balance in their battle scenes. Part Monty's style of battle animation. That feeling of weight and momentum he always uses. And part the anime style battles they had been using since his passing.
Love how fast you uploaded this video. Despite being short, the fight scenes were well-choreographed and fast-paced and I love how Team RWBY ganged up on the Curious Cat in the end.
this volume has BY FAR my favorite fights in the entire series! From the chess fight, to both the neo jabberwalker fights, TO RUBYS RETURN WITH RED LIKE ROSES PART 3 PLAYING, they all are some of the best fights we've ever had in my opinion
So happy with these fight scenes, I really think these ones are finally gonna hold up when revisited, they already re-impress me. It's been a while since RWBY fight scenes have felt this satisfying for me.
i am absolutely in LOVE with the last fight. it's just so euphoric to finally see ruby fighting with all she can. during the volume 8 fight with cinder and neo, it always felt like she would hesitate with every swing. now, she's so much faster than she's ever been. i saw some discussion in the comments about wishing her semblance evolved or that it actually did in this scene. i'm honestly inclined to agree that i feel like even if her semblance hasn't directly evolved in a big way (like neo's or ren's), she's using it better than she ever has. she's switching in and out of Petal Burst like it was nothing, when before she'd stumble out of it and move slower after coming in and out of it. it was slow enough in her fight with neo at the bridge that neo could telegraph her attack (when she threw her scythe and caught it behind neo). now she's able to dodge so quickly, it almost appears instantaneous, like she doesn't even enter petal burst at all. i'm convinced she might even be extending it to her weapon, which is why she can swing it so much faster now and why there are visual effects in her swings. either way, i'm really glad we got a proper ruby-focused volume. she really needed that metophorical and literal rebirth
Honestly with all the emphasis on that attack, that should’ve happened. As an animator and a newcomer to rwby this fight while better than the ones in V8 is only good. The fight is a bit hard to follow at points due to it being a tad too fast, Monty had fast fights but had enough restraint to know when to slow down so that you knew what was happening, the sfx should’ve been better and more meaty making some of the hits feel a bit hollow and that final hit with all the girls in their colours should’ve had more emphasis and time to breathe, without either the shot feels like any other hit in the fight. Because of all these factors the fight feels a bit weightless. I would’ve slowed down the fight a tad bit and added more moments of downtime and with the final hit I would’ve made rby(Ruby, Blake, Yang) fall back down onto a glyph than cut to weiss preparing a glyph beneath herself then as they all prepare to jump their colours fade onto them as the background turns red(though a darker shade than ruby so that she doesn’t blend in) as they jump and at the moment they land their strike we get some slow mo and when the cat hits the ground he is in an actual hole and not just around a bit of debris. Not saying this to discredit the animators who probably put their heart and soul into this, I’m just saying that this fight, alongside the rest of this volume(meaning story, themes and overall animation) could’ve been better.
@@RaykinaBreakerI believe RT is doing just fine budget wise. Volume 10 has been confirmed for a while ircc, and RWBY being one of their biggest properties, I doubt that it’s going anywhere, especially with the DC crossover movie. If you mean in terms of quality that’s absolutely your opinion, can’t say much to that.
@@starkisama3473 RWBY is their *only* property. All their other animations are either canceled or ended. Although, I wouldn’t mind another season of Ice Queendom.
The fights this volume were a treat and liked the focus on team battles this time, been too long since RWBY fought truly as a team and their synergy especially in the final battle was a delight.
15:58 that scene right there was my favourite out of all the fights the chess fight is a close 2nd but that scene with them all in a aura state was stunningly good
6:52 Something I noticed is that when Yang used her semblance, her eyes turned orange instead of red. Makes me wonder if her semblance is evolving, or perhaps this can be symbolic of her moving on from individuals that haunted her whose colors were red (Adam&Raven).
This Volume had amazing fights! Soundtrack was lit as well. I'm glad they finally added some flips again for our protagonists! It was kinda boring only seeing Cinder and Neo make use of them
the volume was a about alice in wonder land but for ruby it was her red hood story i mean they literlay travel 6 different forests with some wild animals and at the end she beated the hidding wolf of the story
So, like Ruby, Triva Vanile (Neo) will resolve her problem and return better. And since she had a great attachment towards Ruby, she'll come home to Remnant and join her side against the forces of evil without being mute.
No, Neo should stay Mute. would feel cheap to undo that. Her whole life struggle the reason she turned out the way she did was because she wanted more than anything to be accepted for who and what she was, Roman gave her that so she followed him. Just removing one of the main reasons for that struggle would kinda break the character.
i remember watching the season finale for the first time. hearing the red like roses melody play after not hearing it for years instantly made me start tearing up a bit
11:19 look... maybe it's the fact that Jaune is my favorite character, but in the fight against NeoCat, he showed a lot of skill (being hit only once). this shows that Jaune has acquired exuberant strength and skill in these 20 years in Ever after (but due to his traumas with Alyx/Pyrrha/Penny, he was unable to demonstrate his full strength.) now that he has returned to his youth and seems with peace, he may have a lot to demonstrate. I'm looking forward to seeing Jaune have a moment of glory.
My favorite fight scene in RWBY V.9 is RWBY vs Chess Pieces and Ruby vs Neo Illusions!!! BUT MY PERSONAL FAVORITE ONE IS TEAM RWBY (JAUNE) VS CURIOUS CAT!!!!
This is just a random thought but when curious cat was defeated, the speech they made reminded my of envy's speech in full metal alchemist brotherhood.
What a Journey this series has been, just watched the final episode with my Sister and looking forward whenever Volume 10 rolls out. Also Chess Fight and Final episode where Team RWBY fight Curious Cat are my favorite in this Volume.
Really love this volume! So glad that everyone got to settle out their problems, including Neo and Ruby. And now, their next big move is to find the rest of team JNPR, Oscar and Winter in the next volume!
my one complaint about the last fight with RWBY vs the cat is when they glow their colors. wish the order would've been red white yellow black idk if it's just me but still absolutely loved this season and is definitely worth the crunchyroll subscription
So it's like there's the least amount of time fighting out of any volumes, including ones that aren't all that much longer but the general fight quality is probably the best it's ever been.
