@@Exarch_Of_Justice Well, it's good against other people with big weapons to swing around. It's just that she hasn't fought those people, lol. Maybe Nora or Qrow, for example, would be a good match, but in my head right now, I can't imagine them fighting/how it would go
@@mlkywine6852 No, I promise in volume 4, 5 , and most of 6, nothing much changed from 1,2, or 3. I swear it happened after that first fight in vol 7 ep 1
Only to have her Nerfed so that Cinder could just knock her off a ledge. It's like the writers completely forgot (or ignored to make the scene work) her semblance.
If you look up both are fighting styles, it’s pretty clear that Ruby will always have a major disadvantage. Her fighting style is simply too straightforward, and her weapon is just way too bulky. Neo on the other hand is very elusive and nimble. She makes a living by letting you attack first, and then dodging to open up a counterattack. She can literally use Ruby’s scythe as a platform. A character like Blake is actually more fitting to fight her.
Yes and this same bulky weapon was used to somersault across the terrain, careen across the environment slicing grimm left and right. No way she wouldn't have been able to pull off the same trick. Sure she's fighting an actual opponent but trust me, one look at the Red Trailer leads me to believe that Ruby can do just fine.
@@Imperialstorm03 It's still predictable. Ruby, like a lot of other Huntsmen, is specifically made against Grimm. Like, she'll beat the crap out of most of those, especially humanoid ones, but a highly skilled fighter can predict her movements too easily.
People always hyper focus on Neo's agility and ignore her power. That may be the fastest Ruby's aura has ever been busted. At least it was less embarassing than the first time they fought on the ship where Neo just straight up ripped Crescent Rose right out of her hands mid-fight.
@@randumo24 Cinder was literally burning her alive so of course her aura would give up more easily. Back in the past Ruby would only take in blunt hits so her aura didn't drain as easily as it did now
Neo’s fighting style never ceases to impress. Just kinda wish that Cinder betraying Neo was a little better set up. When the hell did Neo threaten Cinder? When she stole the lamp, and refused to hand it over for a second until Cinder apologized? That was the big betrayal that pushed cinder towards punting Neo off of the pathway.
Shes probably revering to fight where Neo tried to take revenge on Cinder for Romans death You know geting goons to track her down next up attacking her probably in attempt to murder her? Edit: also someone can tell me if Ruby have some coldown on her asemblance or something like that because she totally should be able to use this
@@henmar99 I think it was both situations. They reconnected when Neo attacked and Neo had just blackmailed her with the lamp like a day ago. I really thought Neo would turn on Cinder first, but I mean...Neo would have to "die" in order for Cinder's deal (kill Ruby) with her to not be discovered by Salem. The fact that Cinder lied to Salem about that detail makes it pretty clear Cinder was always planning to kill Neo.
Ya it’s literally the same attack we watched Glenda easily save ruby from and then dodged herself in episode 1 I hope the new spin off anime does good enough to warrent a remake of the whole thing
Neo is fucking BUSTED my guy. She has NEVER had her aura break against a normal person. NOT ONCE, in the span of the ENTIRE SHOW. And even then the only one who did break her aura was penny.
@@soranheart9414 part of that is because she is an opportunist like Torchwick. She probably does that on purpose as much as possible when she has that information available.
@@nickbreeze5958 This is true because the writers in the show are atleast consistent with how tired the characters are and how it effects them. Because the more tired you are the less aura you'll have
0:56 So you're telling me that Weiss couldn't dodge that? She had the first look and what seems to be "ample" time to dodge. I put ample in quotes because it was only like 3-4 seconds. But she couldve tackled Ruby into a dodge.
Clearing things up for people. Weiss said "One way ticket to vacuo." RWBY is fighting in some sort of pocket in space or something where Ambrosious decided to put the portals. So you can go in&out of the portals, but the big portal to vacuo is the only one-sided portal because its the only one going to Vacuo. The other portals don't go directly to Vacuo. Another thing. Ruby had no time to grieve for Yang because Neo was practically breathing down her neck trying to kill her. Ruby panicked when Cresent Rose fell because she had nothing to defend herself with, and in that window of time, Neo wasn't directly near Ruby and couldn't attack. Ruby probably came up with the idea of tricking Neo during that moment. If you look from the characters point of view, everything is happening in an instant, you can't keep track of anything other then whats infront of you. Your being attacked, people around you are being attacked, someone you loved is supposedly dead. Whats your next move, whats your enemys next move, are your teammates still alive, how do I defend myself without my weapon.. for RWBY all this this happened in maybe 10 minutes or less in their eyes. (Edit) Also I would like to add that even if Ruby used her silver eyes, Cinder might go away for a bit but Neo would still be there and yang would still be well over the edge. Silver eyes only respond to grimm and when Yang fell, cinder wasn't directly in Ruby's point of view.
Yea that's fair I think people are mostly just upset how kinda dumb everything was in general..like how Ruby definitely noticed her sister 'die' but it didn't trigger her silver eyes. Like Ruby should've done it as soon as she saw Cinder like she did at the end of volume 7 Not to mention that before, robot Penny beat Cinder and Emerald (let's remove Neo from the feat since she was distracted by Maria) Even assuming that human penny is weaker somehow, Cinder shouldn't really have succeeded as much as she did. Cinder didn't really do much different from last time, she barged in knowing what she could but this time the writers wanted her to not take the 13th L. There's just so many things wrong with Volume 8 people accidentally call out the wrong things at times There are things I like about it like Penny's arc overall, all the foreshadowing coming to fruition and the terrifyingness of the hound but things like Hazels redemption being super rushed, everyone getting one shot all the time and Cinder not really changing at all just kinda sour stuff sometimes..
@@hungrybeakstudios472 I don't think Hazel's redemption was that rushed. Hazel was someone Ozpin knew personally, and therefore, understood very well. That helped out. And, Naruto villains like Zabuza, for example, had faster redemption arcs than that. But nobody says anything about that.
THANK YOU! apparently no one else likes how rooster teeth does tension anymore and that's a shame, because I liked every second of this volume. I almost feel jaded; it's like when people ask RT to speed up the pacing, they complain, and when they slow down, they complain. PUT YOURSELF OR EVEN YOUR CHARACTERS in their shoes. This whole thing is realistic, but apparently no one cares about that!
@@KizaruBorsalino That's not how it works. Especially since Ruby's fighting style is based on using Crescent's weight to build momentum and use with and against her Semblence. Qrow's weapon still feels heavy, and he's been using it since his days in Beacon. So this excuse is inavlid.
@@grandempressvicky6387 yes it is, she doesn't build momentum using the weight but the recoil of her rifle, she has been doing things like making it spin on it's own in the air since vol 3, it's nothing new, also does Qrow's weapon feels that heavy to you, when he swings it like a stick most of the time, what would explain it is either is weapon isn't that heavy, or he just have that much strength.
@@KizaruBorsalino The recoil of the gun was countered by the weight of the scythe - she used both for her fighting. Your original point of "she became stronger" doesn't make sense. Bodybuilders don't suddenly find pick up extreme weights to be easy because they have a larger muscle mass. Even if they trained every day to pick up 100kg, they would still struggle to pick it up every time. I'm not using opinion here like you're implying, I'm using science. And don't tell me this is a fantasy show where science doesn't apply when the show (attempted to) used real-world science to explain Ruby's semblance. Besides, OP's comment was referring to the near floaty choreography of Ruby's fighting. Everything feels weightless and that really takes away from the impact of hits - made worse by the fact she doesn't land any hits at all. Her style composed of wide spins, sweeping sticks and twirls to keep foes at a distance, but she wields it in an almost sword-like manner and you can tell the animators avoid putting her into fights.
@@grandempressvicky6387 Like i said before, she's been fighting like that for a long time already, which is why i doesn't make sense for him to act like it's just happening now. Also you're just taking my point to the extreme. A weapon is supposed to be practical, so it doesn't make any sense to compare this to a bodybuilder and his weights, because nobody in their right might would carry a weapon too heavy to even move around and you don't fight just with raw power, you need technique and agility, quickness. But when using any melee weapon, be it sword, spear, battleaxe, hammer or whatever, you need body strength in order to use it efficiently, that's only natural, so why would it seems so weird to you that she would train her body to build more strength when it's something all fighters do be it in real life or in animes ?
Yes neo wants kill ruby for roman but i dont see she really going to kill her But ruby 1:36 i see ruby eyes wants kill neo for kill yang if finds out about penny she death and she really going to kill neo becuases of her
I just realized, slow down the footage at 0:07 and 0:40, both times is when Neo has the advantage. These are the only times she has a smile, there's no taunting, no enjoying herself, just pure drive to kill..
She actually smiles ... when she kicked Ruby to the ground and approached her. You can see a small, sadistic smirk ... but then it gets interupted by Weiss yeeting her trough a portal.
Now she’s just semblance overuse cuz don’t give me “its to expensive to animate” a few frames of fast and skilled ruby can’t hurt. Her semblance is now just used for cheap shots, I can’t believe rwby rn.
@@michealfinbars1748 The show is just trash right now. I kept telling myself that since I have started the show, I might as well just finish it, but I love my eyes to much so I stopped.
Well Monty actually thought about incorporating fighting styles from the real world to RWBY. Rooster Teeth decided, that was too much work. So we get this lovely dumpster fire.
I dont get why their body shield things seem so fragile now like it looked like ruby just fell down, the fights seem so anti climatic to me and the character are so slow
Exactly! It's not like the fights are bad but it is just so slow and boring compared to vol 3. But one thing I will give them is that almost every single fight advances the plot now.
I love how Neo goes from looking merely annoyed at Cinder holding the Relic to that brief look of terror right before Cinder flings her into the abyss. It's like she finally realized what a threat Cinder is.
They really need to stop animating Neo using her umbrella like a sword. Have you ever tried to swing an umbrella like a sword? It's slow, painful and the handle feels like it'll snap off if you swing too hard. Neo's main method of attacking has always been her kicks, the umbrella was used to deflect or parry an attack. The hidden blade was meant to finish off opponents with no aura, it's near useless in actual combat.
@@slipskolt7300 I think its supposed to be a blunt weapon to disorient enemies and then she stabs them. We also don't see the blade until she goes to finish somebody off.
@@Eugene_Black What I mean is that they need to change the way she holds it. if she's going to use the umbrella to dish out damage, holding it by the handle looks extremely uncomfotable, slow and ugly lol.
It's not the first time Ruby has seen someone dear to her dying, she should know that instead of crying like a baby and throwing herself to the floor while letting herself get stabbed by the person who just "killed" her sister, isn't exactly the correct way to act, she should instead not let herself get killed, and mourn her sister after she's defeated the enemy, the correct way of thinking if you ask me. Blake had time to react because she didn't have a Neo going for her throat, and also, she failed to save Yang, which want it or not, would affect her, but she cried for like 2 seconds and then decided to do what's right, fight, which is what Ruby was doing, so I don't see the big deal really, specially considering Ruby did appear to be shocked at first, and then was angry + crying while fighting Neo, so she did have a reaction.
I wanna see Neo just solo team RWBY. Like fr she stood up against Cinder and in every fight she's in Neo legit never really goes all out. I'd like to see how she fares against all four working together
In all of her fights with Huntsman-level foes, the only time she's actually landed a hit with her scythe is when she cut Tyrion's tail off. Seriously, every other time she's taken a swing with that thing, it's been blocked or dodged. She's managed to shoot, punch, kick and headbutt, but actually slicing anybody with her main weapon seems to be off the table. At this point, this bizarre omission is the only thing that genuinely bothers me about this show.
@@Supersheep64 I want to note for once Weiss gave Ruby the staff, Ruby seemed to have a hard time wielding Crescent Rose with one hand, so that's probably the reason she struggled there. As for the rest of time, giant swings from a weapon like that can't be easy.
@@TheGreenAzumarill Yeah, Crescent Rose seems to be a weapon exclusively designed to fight Grimm. And given her romanticised view of huntsmen pre-Vol1, I really wouldn't be surprised if the thought of having to use her weapon against another person was something that never crossed her mind while designing it. But even so, for somebody with superspeed powers to not be able to land a hit with their primary weapon of choice is just baffling. Even Ironwood was able land some blows with that cumbersome cannon of his, and that's not even a melee weapon!
Neo jumped Cinder in the Anima arc and let’s not forget the whole stealing the lamp and blackmailing Cinder with it Neo was hired help, upset about her love getting killed on a job she takes revenge on her employer and only stops when maiden powers gets involved, is easily convinced Ruby is to blame, agrees to help Cinder if she can kill Ruby… Cinder agrees to help her get actual revenge… and then when Neo gets upset that Cinder has to answer to her own boss, steals a magic relic from basically-satan knowing Cinder will be blamed as Neo is one of her assets and uses blackmail to get her way. I’m not defending Cinder (because, let’s be real, she’s a monster!) but Neo isn’t exactly a perfect business partner here
@@Андрей-с3ь1х i think they will rematch again it coud be ruby vs neo but i think ill see neo winning again i mean ruby always trick her but now thats an island no more trick ruby
The writers really nerfed Ruby so horribly in this scene. Are you really gonna tell me after everything she's been through Ruby still cant put up a good fight against Neo, who for some reason the writers decide to make overpowered and untouchable?
Because thats who neo is she is an extremely skilled fighter because she is so small and untouchable the writers made her slower there is no way that neo should have loss against maria in amity
She has every possible reason to lose against Neo. Neo's abilities pretty much perfectly counteract how Ruby and Yang both fight, which is too direct and open. Ruby's worse off, since she didn't focus on new styles and remains entirely reliant on a weapon that is really predictable if you're good at reading combat lines. Neo loses against those who fight like herself (Maria) or would have issues against a non-upset Blake.
Every scene of Neo vs Ruby is so well done. One of my fav fights of the volume. My only real complaint with v8 is the fight choreography lacking towards the end. Definitely not as bad as v5 but nowhere near v7 levels.
@@Twinklethebunny She shed a few tears for her sister and teammate that's been with her for years and is basically her 2nd mother figure. Damn, you right she really _does_ care
I love how this bench targeted a seventeen year old girl with a scythe and was willing to ignore the apocalypse just to put her down. Neo became the queen of “No catching your breath” in the last episodes.
Everyone is saying that their fighting skills got worse, but if you look at it (at least in this clip) they were tired as hell. If i remember correctly, they didnt get rest at all on this volume, and if you add that they watched Yang fall, everything got worse for them...
Right? They could have just made the blast happen sooner so that it made more sense, singing Ruby just as she throws her out of the way. But so much about this fight makes no sense, even from the very first attack where Neo stops and slashes (with a weapon that has no edge) instead of continuing forward and stabbing.
0:36 Look, I won’t deny that RWBY fight scenes aren’t what they used to be, and the writing could definitely be handled better a lot of the time. But, you really gotta appreciate the amount of effort and detail the team puts in. I mean, the small tear that runs down Ruby’s cheek? The minutiae movements of her fingers as she spins her scythe? *That’s* attention to detail and genuine love for your work!
@@williamchuba9397 It isn’t really the fact that Ruby is crying itself that I’m complimenting, it’s the fact that the animators went and put in small details like that that most people wouldn’t even notice.
For some reason, kcrwby decided to make ruby's weapon actually seem heavy even tho she's never struggled with it and it also makes her look like she cheated her way into beacon like Juan
huh its not like Jaune weapon design are the most practical out of most of the show weapons not to mention Jaune is actually faster since his weapon is less wieldy and lighter to use and his shield didnt break yet i think Jaune shield is actually the most durable material in the show so far the shield never received any dent so far
@CherryLee HartLey I know what you mean, but that's probably the worst comparison you can make. Unless Neo has an immortal warrior with skills to draw upon inside her.
@CherryLee HartLey Well yes and no. Oscar does train, but Ozpin literally told him that Oscar would improve faster as he slowly merged with Ozpin. Like, literally, they said this. I don't blame you for forgetting though.
Honestly weiss and Blake should of fought neo and rwby should have taken on cinder since she has the eyes. Weiss and Blake definitely have alot of utility and speed they really could have put the pressure on neo I don't think she could take on both of them since they both rely on speed, technique and versatility.
They were rushed to decide who should fight, and Blake/Ruby were definitely too focused on Neo after Yang was knocked off. Only Weiss was keeping a clear head.
Crescent Rose has an entire war scythe configuration that Ruby just doesn’t use. Not only would it probably be far better and more versatile against smaller opponents, it would look cooler than the weird majorette twirling they always have her do with her weapon now.
But not as if used to be sadly, they think of it as a health bar for plot than its original “extra shield” that’s just there for extra hits and cooler fights.
@@skklz_ It has always been a limited health bar though, not an unbreakable shield that can sustain more hits for longer fights. If it was an unbreakable shield it would make the characters immortal, which is bad writing in itself.
Honestly, I'd be completely OK with them killing neo in volume 9. She's just a murderer driven by revenge at this point, so either she gets what she wants, or dies trying, and I like the idea of her being so tunnel visioned on her goal that she never achieves it, and dies in wonderland.
They wil probably make he change sides to be honest, since she ended up in the same place with them all, it will start out as a fight then turn into something elsw
yang isnt dead easy pz they wouldnt kill of a member of team rwby when the one thing keeping the sloppy writing alive is how much the fans wanna ship ppl
There’s legit no stakes in this fight We know the void doesn’t kill because they’re not gonna kill off their main cast Which means Neo Weiss ruby yang and Jaune are all alive This fight is the equivalent of clickbait No stakes
@@supergoodadvice853 ...And? She still died lmao. I know a lot of people didn't like her dying again, but I definitely prefer Penny dying over no one dying, at least she herself chose this death, she wanted to die in order to save her friends. The first time she died she was simply killed to make a point, so I at least am glad she could die the way she wanted to.
I don know how Cinder failed to kill Ruby in the minute 1:37 since Neo have already break her aura. I mean, Maiden magical powers against an auraless girl, one can imagine that could make a "little" more damage (proof of that is in Volume 5 when Cinder almost killed Weiss, and that she only survived thanks to Jaune's semblance).
wondering what will the future holds for those 2 when VOL9 comes out will they stay as enemies or they becomes friends on a deserted island with everyone else in it?
Just coming across this 2 year old post. Has anyone noted that this scene didn't make a whole lot of sense? Neo could have easily used her semblance to get out of this jam. Cinder simply knocking her off a ledge made little sense to me.
Honestly this battle highlights how bad Ruby is as a fighter. She's great at killing a shit ton of Grimm but they're mostly mindless. Seeing Ruby fight is like watching someone play a good character but they don't know how to use their moveset right. I've always said: The fact that she has a speedy semblance (which also allows her to fly and split her mass at will btw) pairs well with her choice of firearm. If she really wanted to, she could basically be untouchable. Snipers require being at a far enough location and out of sight to be the most effective and be able to have enough time to handle enemies that have spotted them and are trying to close the gap. If I were Ruby, i'd move around to confuse the enemy or to just create distance, and keep said distance. Sure the martial arts Ozpin was trying to teach her *could* come in handy if they manage to get close but she has to use it as a means of pushing back the enemy and resetting that distance again. She *should* be a glass cannon that's hard to hit
1:09 Why did she just stare at it?? Like she could’ve used her speed to jump and catch it then use her semblance to dodge Neo, but right there she didn’t even move or react it looks like. She could’ve at least had some sort of reaction if the case wasn’t that she could make it, but she just blankly stared at it..
I see a lot of people complaining about how Ruby's fighting style seems slower, but I kinda like it. Of course I love fast action-packed fights, but it also feels more realistic. As someone who has tried using something similar to Ruby's weapon (except with air as an opponent), I can say that with Ruby's level experience, and the fact she probably pulled an all-nighter, she fought quite well with Crescent Rose. You could that Ruby needs to build up momentum or use bullets to quickly swing Crescent Rose, and I appreciated that this fight actually seems realistic in terms of how an experienced fighter like Ruby would fight with a scythe. In short, while I can't claim this fighting style is better than in previous volumes, I feel that it's undeserving of the amount of hate that it's gotten. But this is just my opinion, and 95% of people probably disagree with that, and that's okay. No need to cuss me out ;-;
I mean the difference between you and Ruby is the fact that Ruby has more experience and also has a speed semblance. So even if normally Ruby could not physically swing her scytch that fast her speed semblance could speed it up. But it seems like the writers now have made her semblance more of a transforming semblance than a speed one.
@@failingeverything5793 Yeah that's what I was trying to say, that I could never even make it to Ruby's level of experience. She still manages to swing much faster than a normal person can, so people complaining that she's slow doesn't exactly make sense to me. I can see what you mean about Ruby's semblance, it always makes it so she could move around faster, and the swings she makes use the momentum from the speed that she's built up. I think that using her semblance and bullets is how she is able to use it so fast. About it seeming like a transforming semblance, well, she still uses it to move around quickly, so I never really saw a problem with that. Even if I disagree, I think I understand what you're saying; sorry if I missed the point. Thanks for your input. :3
@@hushchild9156 Well when Ruby uses her semblance she now turns into rose petals. Before she just moved faster and had rose petals trailing behind. While she still uses the semblance to get to places faster there are still some key differences. 1. Her entire body turns into rose petals. You cant really build up momentum in your swings when your arms and weapon is just a cluster of petals. 2. She seems to be slower. When her petals fly in the air while it is a easier way to travel because there are less obstacles in the air it still seems to be slower than before. In the first trailer and in previous seasons of RWBY she speeds across the battlefield at superhuman speeds. Some of it is due to her bullets sure but in food fight at the end Ruby manages to run at superhuman speeds without bullets. I will say that Ruby does seem to transform near the end but shes still faster than now. Plus I think it was more to show that she was going so fast not even the camera could pick her up as you could still see her cape. Ruby in the show goes too slow for it to be explained away by camera blur. 3. Before she wasn't able to fly, she just ran really fast. This is due to the fact that instead of running fast with rose petals breaking off as a side effect she now straight up turns into rose petals. So yeah they changed Ruby's entire fighting style just by changing how her semblance works. Which would have been cool if they showed her semblance slowly turning and Ruby's fighting style slowly turning with it. But the switch was so dramatic that it's almost like this is an entirely different character in Ruby's place. Of course you might like this fighting style better than her old one. I could do a whole breakdown on how I think Ruby's swinging and use of bullets is different but that might take too long.
@@failingeverything5793 Yeah, I see what you mean with all of your points. I don't think you need a full breakdown, you summarized it pretty well. :3 And, I don't know if I would say I like this fighting style is better than in previous volumes, but I just think it's undeserving of the sheer amount of hate it's gotten. :/
Crescent Rose is the farthest thing from realistic and Ruby choosing to fight people with this is like shooting herself in the foot before a marathon I don't care what that thing is made of, the design is simply too large and will be unweildy regardless of weight. If this was realistic, Neo would've won in seconds regardless of Ruby's skill Firing bullets to boost your swings is, needless to say, really dumb especially considering that 1:This thing can lift itself and Ruby with the force of the recoil and 2: Ruby does not have any means of anchoring herself to the ground. Meaning if physics were consistent, Ruby would be flying backwards from every shot she takes with that thing, possibly disarming her at best, knocking herself out at worst Their lack of rest has nothing to do with it, if Ruby didn't have plot armour, she'd straight up just be dead especially with Neo as an opponent
