I just realized something. Dust crystals kinda look like candy, don't they? And Hazel is inspired by Hansel from Hansel and Gretel. So when he's juicing up on dust crystals, it's like he's eating a bunch of candy. Just like Hansel in the fairytale.

Took me a while to realize, but salem has no Aura. Since she's essentially the essence of Grimm. Every weapon that hits her, hits her flesh and blood. Like when yang put bombs on her, her insides went everywhere. Not that it matters since she's immortal, just thought it was a cool attention to detail

I think Emerald is starting to realise that Hazel is the one who really cares about her, not Cinder (keyword: starting) especially with that smile that Hazel gave her when he told her to go You see everyone, Ilia didn't steal Emeralds redemption arc, she just delayed it

(Sorry for bad english) FYI, Hazel and Gretchen are Hansel and Gretel from the original storytale of Grimm brothers (which is the name of Black Pools in the Domain of the Darkness, btw). OG characters were lured in a trap by the witch with a house made of sweets, Hazel was lured by revenge against Ozpin; "revenge is always sweet" (Die - V2 song) And now Hazel (OG Hansel) is burning the witch, telling the he will do what her sister would have done. Gretel (Gretchen in RWBY) burned the witch in the oven.

Best quote in the entire franchise: "No more Gretchens, boy".

You know, I think that watching MurderofBirds reactions is a must after every episode of RWBY; like, Rooster Teeth should end every episode and then just start his reaction video right after because it makes the whole experience 100 times better. Also he has ruined reaction videos from everyone else for me because I always think "I wish it was MurderofBirds" because no one is as energetic and passionate as him in a reaction video.

When Jinn asked "Do none of you have a question for me?" It seems she knew Neo was there as before she started to go back into the lamp she looked in the direction where Neo was hiding. My theory is that if Neo 'Did' ask Jinn the last question... Jinn is somehow able to understand whether through something like sign language or Neo's body language or It could be revealed that Neo can actually talk and be like a form of selective muteisim for her.

Absolutely love Hazel as a character and I'm super interested to see how Emerald will react when thinking about all the ways Hazel consistently looked out for her that Cinder didnt. I like to think that'll be a key thing for an Emerald redemption, is her realizing that Cinder never really cared about her because of Hazel and his almost father figure role, maybe that's just wishful thinking from a hazel fan though lol.

Yang referring to Summer as her mom. Ouch. Also, I’m really excited for Emerald and I SUPER hope her and Penny have a moment. Where like Emerald apologizes for getting her killed and all that. I also really like that Yang’s emotions are being explored again. Also, the animation. Oh my god it’s so pretty. Also hey we got another fairytale! I love Remnant’s world. Also wildcard Neo we all knew it was coming. Also the fact that Salem almost sounded familiar, intrigued, or maybe even fond, when Summer came up again is really freaking chilling.

I think the reason Jinn is "ok" with it is because she has a soft spot for Ozpin, that's just my interpretation though

Kudos to Hazel's voice actor. The bit where he's playing Oscar pretending to be Hazel is very well done.

Side note: If I were Winter I would do some more side quests and get the rest of the N7 armor set before starting this mission. (Mass Effect anyone?)

I noticed something Hazel did. He cocked his fists like Henry Caville did in that Mission: Impossible movie he was in when he fought Tom Cruze's character.

I'd just like to say, I think Hazel managed to kill Salem 'over and over again' because Salem let him, like she did in her backstory. In an actual fight, I don't think Hazel could actually kill her that many times, or even once.

Also hazel has shown that he is sympathetic towards the kids in general so it makes sense he wouldn’t go this hard at mistral

I think Salem let Hazel kill her ‘over and over again’. To cement how ‘unbeatable’ she is. She also probably waited for a few hours to give Hazel false hope. Because as Bane said, “You can’t have true despair without hope.”

I bet once Salem finally gets Jinn summoned it will be revealed that Neo found a way to ask the last question already.

I got into RWBY about two weeks ago and I am now caught up. Thanks for all the content, it has made my RWBY watching experience and my quarantine better :D

12:50 I mean, Neo's Semblance is physical *illusions* so...it's not that surprising that she can do this considering what she has done in the past. 18:12 He used magic last volume to protect himself from becoming a splat on the ground after falling through Atlas. And their prior conversations has hinted that Oscar, through Ozpin, has "control" over his remaining magic. I think they last breached this topic during their talk in chapter 2. Who really knows what Neo intends to do with the Lamp, but we know she isn't loyal to Salem and her partnership with Cinder is less than stable.

Hey, do you remember the last reaction when Arnold said he thought CRWBY was going to break Ruby? I think I found a clue that might support this theory. If you look at the opening of volume 6, you can see Qrow being pulled by Grimm arms. And we all know that Qrow was conquered by his sorrows during that volume. Well, if you look at Ruby in the opening of volume 8, you see that she is being pulled by grimm arms as well. That being said, I think Arnold is right, CRWBY will probably break Ruby. Do you think it is a pattern, or do you think it's just a coincidence? Let me know, I'm thrilled to know what other people think!

I don't care what happens next. Hazel won this season. He won it HARD!!! He can't feel pain, Ozpin is slowly coming back and Salem can't die. Eternal slugfest vibes!!!

That fight was honestly amazing, Hazel pushing himself to his limits, Salem displaying the sheer body horror of her immortality and how she uses both it and her magic in battle... It's so good!

I was critical of how uncontrollable Salem can be with her emotions due to how old she is and what she's been through. I've always thought that she should have better control over how she reacts. But now it makes a little more sense why she would react as she does under pressure. She's still the angry girl who wants things to be perfect, the same girl who still holds onto her pain and suffering. I still am critical about how the writers have been handling her character a little bit (not as much as before, but still a little bit). Personally, it's a little hard to take her so seriously when she reacts out of anger so much. Once or twice is good, like when Hazel mentioned Ozpin in Season 6 and she destroyed the dining room windows. That's a legit reaction that works. But the other times, like how she reacts to her minion's failures comes off as too immature and not that of a mastermind. That being said, I do see what the writers are doing with Salem's character. Her outbursts of raw emotion are because she hasn't learned anything in her immortal life. Despite having everything she's ever wanted, it was never enough. She wanted to be worshipped as a god, to rule over all, to have control over everything. And that's the problem, she thinks control will make her happy.

20:05 Hazel only got that far, because Salem didn't fight back. She let him rip her apart to prove her immortality. But now, she will kill him.

I think that Summer is definitely going to appear again soon, whether it'd be in this volume or not and as either a flashback or an actual return from her disappearance. Also I think your idea of Salem being out of the picture for a while may provide the opportunity for the story to shift focus on other villain characters as the next threat, such as with Cinder and Watts and the eventual confrontation with the Ace Ops and with Ironwood. I hope she is not completely out of the story for the remainder of the volume because I would like to see more interactions and another fight with the protagonists and Salem.

I’ve been looking forward to this

After watching it again, I'm 90% sure that Salem actually took that hit at 21:31 on purpose since she kinda smirked and just kinda hanged there and didn't put up any resistance towards the hit so she could end up grabbing Hazel afterwards however she wasn't expecting him to be able to block her own hit and then Oscar's interference later on.

Battle starts: yeah Hazel's definitely going to die By the end of the battle: no please don't die I want more fight scenes with you!

The sound when Oscar used that magic at the very end sounded like clockwork. I don't think he's killing them, i think he may be using some kind of time dialation to freeze them in like a time bubble of sorts. Just a last ditch effort to buy them more time so they can figure out a way to stop her.

I think Hazel is going too soon. He's a good character, and I wanted to see more of his skills and even some more backstory. I was especially moved by how creative his fighting style was. You can even see the bags under his eyes showing how much of a strain his body is going through from so much dust in his system(even if he can't feel it). At least he got a painless death...Sorry, not sorry.

"Some heroes choose the wrong side" I thought that meant Ace-Ops, but it also meant Emerald and Hazel, and now they've chosen the right side.

I loved how Hazel said "No more Gretchin's boy" meaning he is no longer wasting his time mourning Gretchin

Hazel isn't a hero or even redeemed he's just a man who stands by his convictions

Also that end clip of Oscar shooting magic at Salem with Hazel holding her down reminds me of the Scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 where Voldemort thinks he's finally killed Harry, it's even at the same camera angle, just going the opposite direction

Neo: Can change her appearance at will. Murder: Wait, she can blend into the background!?

And thats why Hazel finally deserves the title of best character

This episode was straight up insane. The fact on episode 10 we probably won't find out what happened after.

Basically How To Redeem Characters in One Episode & I stand by THIS IS THE BEST EPISODE EVER lol Salem "recomposing" herself made me jump out of my chair And now Hazel became one of my fav that was BADASS. Also Winter, I don't know how but the voice acting and the expression just trigger me at some point that I nearly cry

I think ultimately RWBY will be about turning the bad guys good and it will be over once Salem is turned good. Turning good might actually end her immortality which is what she really wants.

It's weird to think about how Jaune, Ren, and Yang actually knew Emerald back when she was posing as a student during the Vytal Festival. I forgot how much history was there.

Jaune: the himbo with no fear

The scene where Hazel set fire to himself and Salem is a historical reference to the witch burning that happened in the town of Salem, where over 20 (i think, not sure) women were burned alive under accusations of being witches, which were later found to have been innocent, and is considered to this day one of the greatests examples of the horror that can happen when fear of the unknown and mob mentality come together.

I absolutely love the energy this man brings to his reactions. Really adds something to the content

I have 2 rwby volume 8 predictions that are both Penny related: 1. Ruby and Penny will have a battle resulting in Ruby giving Penny her Pinocchio no strings on me moment 2. We will have a Penny related song in the soundtrack

When Hazel talked about how he killed Salem over and over again, I think she was letting him kill her just to prove that A. she can't be truly killed and B. she is strong enough to help him get what he wants. So overall she wasn't fighting back when she first recruited him.

Gotta hand it to Juane he use to believe that all hope was lost in the previous volumes but after seeing Pyrrha's statue really inspired him to be courageous now. He's really come a long way and I love him for it.

My argument for summoning Jinn is Ruby was using Jinn to save her own skin by stopping time, but this was mostly just proving a point. Maybe Jinn said that ONLY to Ruby, but who knows

I wondering if wat Oscar was doing, was sealing himself/hazel in a time bubble with salem, to give everyone enough time to get out of not just the explosion radius, but atlas as well. As for neo, either she took the lamp for her own agenda or cinder told her too, watts did seem surprised cinder came for him. Maybe the last question will be who/where is the summer maiden, or worse, how to break into the fall maiden vault. Since once she knows, she can easily fly over there and grab the crown for salem.

For some reason “The Girl Who Fell Through the World” makes me think of a story called “The Girl Who Looked Up” from the book Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson. (Really good book, made me cry hardcore.)

Imagine if Marrow faces off against Salem, and just goes "stay" and she's frozen there. Augment that with Jaune's semblance amplification, and Salem may be disabled enough, well, until Marrow and Jaune's auras run out.

When nobody had a question for Jinn there, it instantly reminded me of that moment when Ruby used Jinn to buy her some time aganist the leviathan in Season 6. And because she got a free shot - "just this once" - I have the feeling that all of her questions are technically used up after the last summoning.

I'm so proud of Jaune. He went from barf boy to being fearless in the face of Salem's territory and nearly getting bombed to death. Also Emerald's semblance is seriously so busted. It works on grimm. It works on Salem. You can't defeat Salem but what about putting her in an endless nightmare-ish illusion?
