RX 580 vs RX 6500 XT | in 2022 

The RX580 is arguably one of the best GPUs in history. Lets not forget that it is basically a RX480, which came out in 2016, and was never even supposed to be anything more than a mid-tier GPU. Yet here it is, still kicking. I remember mine very fondly and still have it for troubleshooting friends PCs and whatnot.

As someone who's had both: the RX580 is a POWERHOUSE. However, it isn't much better than an RX6500xt in most cases, and comes with a HUGE power consumption cost with it (I live in Argentina, and in a city that does not receive any government support for the electrical bill, so each penny weights a lot in that aspect). For gaming on a budget, you'll find these two almost at the same price, but the longer repercusions the rx580 will give you with power consumption should also be taken into account. However, some games (like star wars battlefront 2, or minecraft with shaders) have an INSANE boost in performance with the rx580. Also, the 6500xt doesn't have proper hardware dedicated to video processing, so if you're an animator, video editor, or anything within that industry, you'd be better off with the rx580.

Don't forget that RX6500XT doesn't have hardware support for codec compression and decompression like H264 etc. So RX 580 is better.

In my opinion, the RX 500 class of GPU's have really punched above it's weight class for a long time now. I just replaced my old RX570 with a 6500XT in an old build a few months ago, and only noticed marginal gains in FPS (i keep ray tracing off). I'm almost thinking about slapping the 570 in a new build until the GPU market falls a bit more just to have something to run with until i see a jump in quality that's worth the money.

Maybe 256bit and 8gb of rx 580 are the key for more fps...I think those graphics cards are the same with advantages and handicaps inverted between them to distract the people

i still use an rx580 to play rocket league .. gives me 240 fps. love that card. and the 6500xt aint bad either

I’m a bit confused on the results of this benchmark. I feel like the textures of the rx 580 tests were set higher than that of the 6500xt because it is using significantly more vram than the 6500xt. It also seems like the ram usage varies a lot per card, as though there are background tasks running during one cards benchmark but not the other

Still using my nitro+ 580 4gb 😁, i got it brand new back in 2019, albeit without box, for around 140 usd, 3 years in, still cant find a better deal 🤣

Still running a 580 with a 1600af and it can run Jedi Survivor (on low but at 21:9 aspect ratio). For a REALLY old GPU, it's still a great card.

damn the RX 6500 xt still compensates for the RX 580 ram with 2 times the ram size..If you have the same ram I think it will crush 6500 xt...I prefer 6500 xt because it is more power efficient with the same performance

i'm really lookin' forward to buy a PC with RX 580 just to see how Relive does at 1440p compared to my 1080 Ti FE with Shadowplay, especially rescaling 4:3 to 16:9

Clock that 580 @ 1468mhz at least with a bit more power, the FPS will rise dramatically

If AMD sorted theirs frame times on a RX 6500 XT am sure that'll overtakes RX 580. Because that what AMD is falling behind on lately

I've been using my RX 580 since I bought it in 2019, and it was a 2-year-old budget card back then. No issues running anything so far! But I don't always jump on the newest games. warzone is no issue though for example. I even stream with it, paired with my Ryzen 5 2600!!!

If the 6500 xt launched at around 100$ and had x8 lanes i would actually deem it ok-aish.

2016-2017 was the peak of computer hardware. Nothing will ever compare to the gtx 1080 and the rx 580 in terms of price to performance and longevity. It's all downhill from here.

Great test... it is 50w arround different between those card.. for eficiency i will go for rx 6500xt.. but if you have more budget, better you choose rx 6600..

The GPU power draw looks so low on the RX580. I had a RX580 8GB nitro+ and it pulled 200w on average in cyberpunk (1411 core default).

RX 6500 XT is PCIe 4. You can use it on 3 but it will lose performance. You need to list the hardware used when doing these benchmarks.
