You can play the songs with a simple acoustic treatment, and they're absolutely beautiful, but they're overdone to the point where most of the true emotion is lost, and EMOTION IS WHAT DRIVES TAYLOR'S MUSIC.
Omg I thought of The Breakfast Club too!! he took a song that didn't really have the 80s vibe imo and gave it what it was missing. I feel like he did that to a lot of the songs on her album. it's awesome.

She writes most of her lyrics most of the writers she works with usually modify the lyrics to either make the songs shorter/Longer/ or to just delete filler on the occasion that they do write lyrics it’s usually 2-7 lines Max. And Ryan’s version is meh he takes away all the fun out of the originals and makes them these average indie shit trying to capture and 80s sound that doesn’t fit his voice. The production overpowers his voice and tbh his versions make the songs so underwhelming and too ambitious especially considering Ryan’s voice isn’t anything special it’s just the average indie boy in high school who thought they could have a career despite millions sounding exactly like him. His versions have no charm, fun basically takes out everything that makes the originals good and makes them mid not bad not incredible just average

when i saw this album i was sceptical. i thought 'why would you?' then i listened to it. this is genius, gosh i love it. i grew up in the 80s and thought it had a very 80s vibe. best era for music. thrilled i found this album!
This is probably my least favorite Taylor’s track 5 which has a reputation of being sad songs with amazing lyrics. The overkill production of the original sounds off and Ryan does a much better job. I still love the og it’s just not one of my favorite songs on the og 1989.

God this is so good. Taylor’s version just always fell flat for me. THIS.. is an amazing spin on it. All the credit goes to Taylor for writing this song, and it’s beautiful. But Ryan brought this to life and I was able to really feel the song, like really feel it
