I’ve always said, as a true street skater Ryan is one of the best, he’s not always had the best results when it comes to contests but my god he absolutely kills the streets for sure. And for a 35 year old putting his knees through all he has done he still rips, unbelievable talent.

Much respect to all the pro's coming out of Canada!! the weather is rough up here, and there were no skateparks in Toronto when i was a kid. Makes it that much harder.

And there is No indoor Skatepark for the Westcoast Canada ,, we got no where to skate during the Continual awful weather . Parking lots are even few , and generally a sure kick out and or just wet and dark

@@DeadFlorist55 So true. However, West49 inside the Tsawwassen Mills Mall has an indoor skate park, but I'm not sure if it's currently open or still around in 2022? The colder, rainier, darker, and snowier weather is one of the reasons skaters decide to move to places like California as one can skate on a beautiful sunny, dry, and warm day in January. Basically able to practice and progress all year long instead of a third or half the year. Canada's skate industry is just not as big in comparison to the States. Although the skate industry is slowly growing in Canada, and else where in the world, it's just not at the same level as it is in America, mainly in California. So it will take some time before we catch up, but weather plays a significant factor in this equation, and because of weather, it may make some sense to build an indoor skate park. However, real estate in the west coast is insanely overpriced. So, business wise, it most likely doesn't make sense as one won't be able to even keep the lights on at an indoor park due to the capital and operating costs of the building. Admission to skate would be pricey in order to make the indoor park viable. Nevertheless, I agree that another one or two indoor parks are definitely needed. Not just in the west coast, but all over the country in every major city. Toronto has Skate Loft, and Hippie Mike is building an indoor at Hope (HMI Skatepark), so there is proof that it can be done, and it has been done in the past back in the 90s-early 2000s. But, I guess it's just not a viable business and the parks end up closing down, probably due to rising costs in absolutely everything. If I win the lottery, I will open an indoor in the lower mainland, but it will probably be somewhere in the Fraser Valley area because real estate is way too expensive in Vancouver proper. Even though the entire lower mainland is extremely expensive, the Fraser Valley is slightly cheaper therefore possibly more affordable to open an indoor skate park somewhere around Surrey, Delta, Langley, or Cloverdale, and within short walking distance to transit for those who use it.

West 49 had/has parks, RDS in North Van was indoor, There are two on granville island, There has been a rotating door of others that popped up over the years, then there are few under cover of bridges.

I've been a big fan, ever since I've seen his skating the first time. Especially his humble personality combined with gnarly clips in the street and also skating in contests, inspires me big time. and the age... being just 3 years younger, he shows me, that I'm not too old for skating and that i should get my ass out and onto the board :) riding his pro model, for many years, with pride

All skate Olympic games should be different types of "game of skates" instead of trick score contests. This allow space for fair judgement, no point scores, unbias favoritism, simplistic rules to follow, easier for non skater viewers to understand, more entertaining & build more of an incentive for skaters to progress in learning trick vocabulary consistency. I believe the story of the kid jumping El Toro, I live in New Zealand and in the early 2000s, for some reason, kids would literally do back flips off of the roof of houses, like casual as anything just back flip off their house. Not every kid did this, I'm gonna come out and say it was "hood thing" haha

Talking about this dream shit is crazy, I can relate. I kid you not, I’ve dreamt of tricks I want to land. And in my dream I can feel the foot placement and how hard to pop, how much to grip or turn. It's crazy to know im not the only one that skated off the nose lol people used to give me shit when they would let me ride their boards and say "your riding it backwards". I was the same way I would do nollie or switch tricks off the tail and regular or fake tricks off the nose. With exception to a few tricks like variel heels I used to do off the tail some reason but other than that I skated the nose.

don't be afraid to wear actual cycling gear. years ago in my skating days I never thought I would ever do it but now I am a proper road cyclist. At first you think you look ridiculous in cycling gear but then you realize you look even more hilarious if you're not wearing cycling gear. You put it on, you go for a bike ride and then you get back into your regular clothes.

I met Ryan and Scott in 2003 at Cambie in Vancouver. As a grom from California, I always admired how they killed all those crusty spots out there. They have changed the structure of these interviews. They haven’t been asking the usual “ how did you start?” formula. It’s more of an organic conversation. I fuck with it!

Those boards from wally world that dont work (plastic trucks, non precision bearings, slick hard wheels prone to chipping and flat spotting) are joy thieves and potential career killers!!! A $60 Darkstar complete is at least going to perform enough to establish the basics then they only need to buy a new deck & upgrade trucks and wheels later on. And it's not so expensive that parents will be willing to take a chance on their kid taking to it.

I recently tore my ACL skating a long gap. I hate skating long gaps and had a great day skating. So, I guess my senses were down for the gap. Jumped down it once no problem. Felt confident to land it first try. Kicked out on the first try after trying to land it but hesitated last second. Landed all sideways and buckled my knee and tore my ACL.
