Ryan Leslie breaks down how to GET PAID in this industry and how Cassie started this. CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE: bit.ly/12lN6vb HOT97: www.hot97.com TWITTER: / hot97 FACEBOOK: / hot97official
For those who are throwing shade...you don't understand what he is doing. He is data mining..which the same thing google and facebook does. Having direct access to your customer base is priceless. Why do you think FB and phone apps ask for access to your contacts and browser??? So they can mine that data, and find out what their customers like and sell them stuff. Dude is way ahead of the game!!
Frank X Telemarketing sells products the manufactures offer. Data mining sells you products based off your lifestyle. If you like video games, listen to Drake, and like basketball. You will get products that support your liking. Things you didn't even know you had access to.
The most talented artist and musicians never get the shine they are suppose to. This guy is extremely talented but is overlooked because his personal life and persona isn't headline worthy. But he has managed to monopolize on his past work and create a foundation, financially for his artistry. These types of artist are becoming less and less because the public doesn't feel the need to support them and everyone wonders why the music on the radio all sounds the same.
***** I know people in the game. I am a painter, photographer, producer and designer. It's been a long road for me, but I know my day will come. Doing the leg work till my dream is realized.
The music industry is structured in such a crazy way that you can sign a major record deal with a major label, but end up broke at the end of the road.
People didn't appreciate this interview... That's crazy!!! This was 100% insightful, 100% valid, but like he said it only sticks with a few. This was a great breakdown and clear concise steps as to what can be done to monetize your Art and own it. In the age of technology it is one's personal choice to be ignorant. Bless the hard workers.
PUBLISHING 101...all these youtube artists tryna make it big. PAY ATTENTION. MONEY IS NOT IN Singing/Rhyming on records. the REAL money is in publishing, residuals and CONTROLLED distribution/data mining. And multiple streams of income. I love that Ryan is trying to smarten up some of these "old heads" too. The face forward parts of the entertainment industry is so off...He's telling yall that there are ways to GET the money you deserve and where talent counts...and honestly its not always on the stage - sadly it usually isn't.
Look how focused that women is in there. She is digesting and storing everyword. Hot 97 probably not paying that much. I see the thirst...and it is real......
R Les and Cassie are a dynamic duo. They need to work together again. Neither one of them can probably put their prides and hurt feelings to the side though. It's so unfortunate. She's never been able to make the type of music she made with him with anyone else.
Interrupting someone who is spreading amazing knowledge-just to listen to your own voice-is what makes a bad DJ/interviewer/host. Ebro is embarrassing.
They clearly got paid to hate and try to bash this new innovation. That's like petrol companies paying their sales team to bash a free energy company. The sales reps are stupid enough to get paid to make free energy look bad, when its gonna save them money and time.
I just came to say this: Ryan is VERY underrated and a musical mastermind. From the visuals, to the production, to the song writing. Much respect to him.
I found this link from another video i watched, I didnt plan on watching it but, I am soooo soooo soooo very glad I did. This is something I have been discussing while I do free financial planning for "artists" and people in the inner city that are struggling. So many people look at famous artists as role models as if they are making a lot of money but most of them don't know how to build wealth and only know how to make and spend money. I have bought concert tickets for Ryan Leslie but I want to support even more now.... SOOOOO DOPE!!!
At the start of this interview, I was like - this is kind of the first time that I see RL on a 'commercial' platform and second guessing why he would do this... but essentially, if you do the maths, even if 50% of the 116492 people that's seen this video thus far, put his number in their phone book, and that probably 20% of those that gave his business a call, and probably 10% of those he's actually going to work with... that's 1165 people signed to his new service (thumb suck)... tell me that doesn't make business sense. Gotta hand it to RL, I love his work ethic and his take on the industry. No longer do you have to comply to the system. Rather be smart (i.e. get an education/inform yourself), and create your own system that you can make a living from.
All him going to Harvard means is he went to Harvard. Universities are business. Nothing more. Don't get caught up in the matrix that society sells you on. Lots of idiots with advanced degrees. Some run the country. PAY attention!
I don't be listening to his music, people be commenting on his weak fanbase. Here is difference between black people and other races. Ryan is like your own Jewish nigga he got the knowledge. He be showing you how to be making money for self monetising what you produce. White people would be still taking seminars from the this guy even if they don't like his music or the venture. black people be cussing him while working for other people saying he ain't hot. learn and build.
fukin amen... before our people support our people they cussing first or hating in some way. Mans skooling people on how to do things a different way and people are talking bout fanbase sizes lol da guys still caked so i dont see any cussing points been valid. Listen, learn and appreciate genius.
It's a Slave Mentality that Black people as a whole need to UNDERSTAND KNOWLEDGE OF SELF to rid of such things. We have been done by the Willie Lynch Syndrome generations ago not to trust one another or learn from anyone that looks like us. It's always Trust what a White man says. Don't believe me though, Look at Dame Dash... They judge him all because of his "Looks" when reality he could be 10X times richer than their Family Tree.. They just go off media and how he comes across when speaking about being "Your Own Boss"... All Black people who worked a 9-5 under a white man had bad things to say about Dame. Yet all the TRUE Hustlers of any RACE period would soak in what he's saying. He's speaking just like the Italians on what's theirs and who gets leftovers after.
Both are of yall are insane, Cassie dont want for ish. She living wit a half a billy nigga. Think about that. I doubt she care if she put out music at all
Ryan Leslie is an absolute monster genius when it comes to music, and probably the most underrated producer in the game. Out of all the producers to jump in the game, he's the one I respect the most, and also the one I wanna work with the most.
RYAN LESLIE is the UNDERRATED GOAT. Multi talented as fuck. Wish I was him man. Independent getting dough than lots of rappers out, his worldwide fame is absolutely crazy bruh. We need more artist to use his beats, cause they get bread. Look at Cassie, then Fabolous "You Be Killin Em'', Start It Up- Lloyd Banks. Waiting for this interview a long time ago, Go check out Swiss Francs, Maybachs and Diamonds, Glory, Lay Down
This is the greatest interview I've ever heard or seen n my life! Extremely important info and knowledge was passed here. I've been an R. Les fan since he produced Hot Tonight for New Edition
I appreciate this conversation Ebro, I like the fun talks but damn these serious talks about how the Music industry works are so good! very interesting, Thanks man!
This was BY FAR the best interview that I've EVER seen in the history of radio interviews!!! Ryan Leslie is honestly one of the dopest ever, seriously cannot wait to finish stacking up, so I can invest more in me & invest into him, I need one of those consultations. LOL
Ryan systems basically provides you with a mobile app, a website and an online store to sell products and services. It also provides you with all the data analysis information through the mobile app and I guess a website too. It also provides you with telephony services like an number your fans can contact you by voice or text. So you can respond to your fans through a message inbox provide by the service. It's quite a few RU-vid based musicians that have used Ryan's system and it's works. I think at one time he was charging like $45 a month for it but it maybe at a different price than that now. It's nothing really new though especially for people that are use to making a living off the internet. People have seen people do crowdsourcing music projects on Kickstarter and Indiegogo. You have many merchandise platforms that help you sell T-Shirts and other merchandise like TopSpin and SpreadShirt. I guess Ryan provides some consultant services that give you some ideas on what you can do to make money. One thing I will disagree with Ryan on though, it's not enough to have a fanbase but a fanbase that's willing to pay for something from you.
Whether is new or not he's reintroducing a way for artist to profit from their work. People who bring innovation and new ways of thinking to the marketplace should be commended not criticized.
Poor Ryan. Most of what he was saying went over their heads. Their eyes were glazed over as soon as he said "simple math" and "meritocracy". Ebro doesn't seem to get that yes it's work but there is hard work and smart work. Smart work pays off consistently in the long run. If you don't want to put the work into the investment of yourself tough nubs.
Ryan#!!!! Been rocking your songs all week. Thanks from one musician to the other. I sent 3 songs to my business partners. He said. Damn where the hell have I been...lol. Looking forward some new music. Stay safe you make people happy.
First time seeing the is interview I was looking at dude funny... as the years passed and I matured and began to really do the knowledge "this dude really has the blueprints for success not only for music 🔮👀
Open up and take in the GOOD information from this.. Les is basically saying the game is fucked so he came up with a new approach. He circumvented all of it and created a business model that gave his ability leverage!
I'm an indie artist so I come to these interviews for knowledge, wisdom, and useful industry information...more often than not I find gossip and drama. This was a very useful video though and Ryan Leslie gained a fan here
R.les is the truth. I got both indie albums and just seen him perform in inglewood over the summer. One of the only shows I've been to where ppl knew the songs and sang along....and he's not even on the radio. Big up Mozart
Amen.. I Agree with everything Ryan Said here.. I just Text You Bro.. I purchased your 1st Self Titled album RYAN LESKIE as well as TRANSITIONS the 2nd album.
This was a business of music class. This guy has it figured out and we can apply this model to other small ventures. Got to love this dude. If that dude the bass god can make a living anyone can with the right business model. These new guys need to learn the business of music as they work on there craft. He generated a million dollars with a 30 city tour not including merchandise.
