feel like the only dude who could beat him is a prime Eli in outdoors. no one else could come close, not even roczen probably. if RV stayed he would’ve beat a lot of rickys records.

Ryan gave Ryan the Golden ticket when he retired! Not that hard to see, It's all right here! Not saying RD wasn't good but far from RV! RV came in and RD never won another championship in anything till RV called it quits! Pretty amazing how life does you sometimes? Later in his Championships it was not RD that was the competition, Chad Reed was strong as ever! RV might have gone down as the best ever but we will never know. CR, You have my respect for always bringing it!

RV no doubt one of the very best ever! (Him & Stew most fun to watch!) Unfortunately, he got burnt out, you could see in his face, no longer enjoyed it. Look at him now, happy. (Of course the $ doesn't hurt, but he's one cool dude.) RD suffered the same burn out in the end.

Dungey was pretty competitive speed wise with Villopoto when he was on the Suzuki, maybe that process of switching to KTM and getting used to the bike took away a bit of that sharp edge (especially since he's not known to push too far beyond his comfort zone which would be affected by his change to the new bike), similar to how it took Tomac a while to reach similar speeds on his Kawasaki to what he had on the Honda during the 2015 outdoors season. Villopoto never rode anything other than Kawasaki to my knowledge, so I sometimes wonder how different things would have been had Stewart never moved from Kawasaki, Dungey never moved from Suzuki, and Tomac never moved from Honda. Not trying to make it seem like the bike is everything, but depending on how sensitive a rider is to change/comfort, it's a factor worth considering. Nothing beats having absolute familiarity with how the bike will respond to each input, which is something that you only get with long term experience/feel on a specific setup. All of that changes and has to be relearned when you switch teams. Charmichael is an anomaly, but he already had such a big lead on everyone speed wise that switching bikes wasn't the end of the world until Stewart entered the picture. Just a factor, not saying it's the sole factor or the only factor. It's so hard to compare riders from different eras, I am one of those people though that feels that Eli in top form would have been competitive against Stewart, Charmichael, Villopoto, and Dungey. Despite his inconsistency at times he doesn't have many wild crashes, just weird foolish mistakes or mechanicals, his corner speed is also a strength. His main weakness would have been self belief.
@timprall5417
@timprall5417 4 года назад
@@snowzZzZz Good points! Always many things to look at, and some don't have answers. Like, was it's Dungey's bike switch or Villopoto's learning of tracks and riding style? It wasn't just Dungey that had problems against RV in his championship years.They are all great or we wouldn't be talking about them.
@sandman4333

@@snowzZzZz I've wondered the exact same thing! Barcia was killing it on the honda, but never quite the same after that. McGrath said leaving honda was one of his worst mistakes. That's not a pat on the back for honda necessarily, just an observation. I'm sure there's other riders and brands I'm not thinking of, I just happened to see Barcia in this video and that reminded me of him..

RV was on yamaha at some point during his amateur career, then was kawi for a long time. He just had a killer instinct and didn't hesitate like you would see Dungy do for a long time, it wasn't until Dungy got with Aldon Baker that he developed that mentality. Every championship he got while Rv was racing was due to him being injured.

Love Eli, but I've seen a older Dungey run him down! I see Eli as the Dungey that used to try to keep up with RV. Seeing RD took so many championships after RV was no longer there, leads me to believe that RV could have been the best of all time if he hadn't gone! After RV had his accident and came back, RD didn't win any titles until RV left. But the fact is, I hope Eli can have his own reign on SX for a little bit! If he could only get that start down, we may be talking a different story!
@carlongo
@carlongo 4 года назад
@@timprall5417 i agree to some point. I dont see Eli as dungey i think Eli is waaay more agressive while RD was more tactical and consistent. I was a hardcore villopoto fan back then but i have to give it up to dungey Who always was there each race, pushing rv to his limit. One of the greatest absolutley but no one can ever touch Carmichael :)

You can just tell thats not the same james stewart out there and as a die hard bubba fan it hurts to see. After the sport did him dirty, you can tell he lost a lot of his love the passionate he was so famous for. The Suzuki could be a factor too but he wasnt really riding for himself anymore, even before he was banned. The sport pushed him away several times and i think he grew tired of pushing back.

I believe it was 2015 is when he got suspended, I think after the 2009 SX title he just slowly got more inconsistent until he retired for whatever reason.
@SIMIskits
@SIMIskits 3 года назад
WD840 MX HIGHLIGHTS oh my mistake, i agree that he was inconsistent but i think that was him over pushing himself, hes said in recent interviews that he all he wanted was to win and he would put his life on the line to win every race and would always race on the edge to where it led to many crashes and i think that and the expectations and pressure of the people around him and fans, a portion of the fans turning on him when he started doing well when he moved up to the premier class, all led to him losing the drive that made him so impressive. Hes said that for a while he hated racing and winning became a relief more than a celebration for him.

Last year Musquin gave Tomac a run for his money in loads of races. I think Cianciarulo is going to be a real contender outdoors if he can stay on 2 wheels and not get hurt. There were a lot of races that he was putting down lap times faster than the 450 guys.

RV, the last American MX hero. I missed it because I thought that was going to be RC, hate the 4-strokes and stopped watching racing. I should have known better since I was at the 2007 MXofN. Today, the FIM tracks have turned us into a "fast average".
