Dad let it sit for 3 to 4 months. Wouldn't start, leaked gas when he filled up tank. Port was clogged in carburetor. I unhooked gas hose and drained gas. Filter is in gas hose next to tank. Bought can of carburetor cleaner. Flipped washer upside down. 10mm nut holds carburetor bowl. Take it off. Careful with the gasket. I tore mine. Pull pin out of float and remove. Don't lose pin or needle. Easy to do. Black varnish inside and real sticky. Spray each orifice (4) with carburetor cleaner and use red adapter for maximum pressure. Wear safety glasses. Q-tip out the sticky stuff if needed and scrub the bowl clean. Put back together. Flip it back over. Wait 15 minutes for oil to drain back down. Put some gas in it, start it up and don't ever do that again. Worked for me. I hate ethanol. Dad is happy, happy, happy.
Other than getting the hose connector turned around (watch out for that one), the machine is simple to put together and use ru-vid.comUgkxfQauTxLT0JLSvqkq10rD79TU4k0Vz8zP . And very nice, too. I'm surprised at the power-it's more than we'll ever need, and we've not even used the most powerful setting yet.I've cleaned off a dirty concrete porch to get it ready for sealing, started to clean siding, and I know this pressure washer will be terrific for cleaning tools this fall. The only issue we had is we had turned around the hose connector, and it leaked. Once it was on correctly, though, we had no problems with the connection. Just remember that the end with the green knob goes towards the hose. It's obvious now what we did wrong, but not necessarily obvious at the time.
Nice review! When the pump fails, it will be the overload valve that is spring loaded and gets stuck, remove it, bang with screw driver, spray it with lubricant and reinstall. Don't spend $100.00 on a new pump. Also Use pump guard lubricant after each use.
I've had mine for 2 years, and it still works great. It does have an issue with the idle down, but it maybe linked to the fact that the stock hose is leaking at both ends. I just bought a 50ft. hose for more usable length, and to see if it will stop the leaking. Teflon tape on the factory hose only helped a little bit. Other than that, a great unit. I have used it many times to wash cars, and I have used it with the Chemical Guys Foam Cannon with no issues.
@William Todd. That's your opinion. But I personally would never recommend an electric one to anybody that is actually going to USE a pressure washer. They aren't bad for a temporary setup. But my company has had the same honda powered washer for many many years. It still runs great. Never had an issue with the unit itself. The nozzle just gave out so we purchased THIS pressure washer. And it's an amazing unit.
Excellent review and demo. I was also wondering what type of gas it might take which was answered in the comments. I'm a fan of Ryobi products and will probably get one this summer for deck and masonry cleaning. Thanks for posting.
That's very true regarding the idle down technology. That feature alone will extend the life of the engine and protect your investment. I hope your Dad liked the pressure washer!
I think another reviewer did say it is the same as the Homelite, but the main feature is the idle down which they recommended over the Homelite version anyways. I got this for my dad for father's day, and hoping he likes it when he tries it out tomorrow. :D He has no idea.
For Home especially this model 3100/2.5 100 times better than expensive DeWalt which is start leaking after two hours of work from the pump, it’s was $499 something so I return it ,you pay that much and it doesn’t have even container for soap 😃 Some times simple thing more effective and reliable than fancy brand I don’t want Heart DeWaltt but they start rising price instead of quality and reliability
I'd be surprised if simply leaving it out in the rain would prevent it from turning on. However, i would check the spark plug or the air intake for wetness.
anyone know if i can dial the pressure down enough that I can safely wash my cars with this bad boy. need the power for household stuff, but seems like a lot of pressure for a car wash.
I purchased a Ryobi Model RY80940 3100 PSI last August and used it one time. I tried to use it today and it would not start. I tried to return it today to Home Depot and they told me that there was only a 30 day return. I had to send it in for repairs after just using it one time. I have read other reviews on the Ryobi and a lot of them mentioned that it was hard to start. I would not recommend this hi-pressure washer. The cost was $399.00 for one use. Spend the extra money and buy another brand. Go on line to see what pressure washers are recommended.
i am interested in buying a pressure washer, i also searched dewalt but the one i liked is way too expensive for me. you review made it easy for me and i am buying it right away thanks for such great review. regards
And the Honda motor does not put out any pressure.the pump supplies the pressure. The motor is the power source. It's like saying the Romeo in your house is where the cold in your freezer comes from..ultimately yes it does come from there but Honda does not manufacture the pump. Therefore has little to do with pressure
LifeHacks4All They may last long if used domestically but not industrially. I have had the opportunity to repair them for people in the car wash business in which they are used every day on at regular intervals and the pump would wear out within a month. One such operator bought one every month.
kennedy singh ive put on quite a bit of hours cleaning houses and doing driveways. But the reason i believe my pump has lasted this long is because i store my pressure washer in the garage and i also use pump protector. I doubt people that use it towards industrial use apply pump protector during cold months.
LifeHacks4All To start, in Jamaica,we don't have winters and our pumps work every day at regular intervals and I see what happen to them. The results are always the same.
This 3100 pressure washer is for home owners. NO business with any brains would buy one for business use. By a business pressure washer and all will be just fine. Smart business saves money and has the right tools.
I wentthrought 2 not 1 first one engine blow up in less then 45 min 2nd engine replaced from hpme depot wound not braw soap at all home depot it with a dewalt almost same broblem had pumt replaced now it works reboie would n o t do anything about it
Honda Just sells there motors to these companys. Homelite and Ryobi just add there little features to them. Engine troubles is not the third partys fault. Its a Honda engine the heart of the pressure washer. Engine problems ussually rely on the manufactor in this case honda. You will see when doing your research almost and I say almost all the engines for pressure washers are honda.
Purchased the Ryobi from Home Depot to replace a Husky 1550 that I had for about 15 years🌼 allabout.wiki/Ryobi-600 I've only used the Ryobi once so far, but it works as advertised. There's a big difference in cleaning ability between the 1550psi and the 1600psi.
I had have this pressure washer for two years now. The pump just went out but the motor still works great. I'm currently looking for a video for how to fix it and I ran across this sponsored video. If you want to buy this pressure washer and use it for two years...go ahead. I'll never buy another Ryobi product again. NEVER!!!
Man I must have a defective washer... cause I've NEEEEVER been able to start mine as easy. This piece of Shit takes me at LEAST 20 pulls to start. And I've followed every direction to a TEE. Its garage kept and I even use the pump flush. I'm ready to sell it atp, or throw into the fuckin Woods!!!
Even after JUST using it.... and ready for a Re-start. It NEVER comes right back on without running my fuckin blood pressure up. That's why I'm sitting here now trying to find some kind of Helpful YT videos, thinking maybe I missed something. But I haven't.... its just a POS!!
Man, that sucks. I actually just got done using mine a few hours ago.. You're using the choke to start it, right? Also, sometimes a little starter fluid sprayed into the air filter helps to get it going.
@@JaredDesrosiers thanks for the reply... I really wasn't expecting one haha! Just venting! After a long day of trying to wash my driveway & dealing with this washer 😂 But I may have to try that next time. Or keep some on hand. But like I said, I've followed the directions, and even still have it attached to the frame. I'm either too weak to get a good enough first pull, or its just jacked up. 😔 Idk know atp. It even has enough oil. Maybe I'll have to get a new filter, do another flush, and replace the oil. Anywho... thanks for the tip. 🍻
Bought one my five in one was lose once connected. Also water started spraying out from behind the five in one? Could this be from neglect on starting up the choke? I just turned the engine on and tried to use?
Bob, I'm going to assume you used regular gas with ethanol and let it sit in the fuel tank for a few months. Naughty naughty. First, try to use non ethanol gas if you can, cheaper in the long run. Then, shut down the fuel supply and let the engine stall on it's own (spray now and then to keep the pump healthy). How do I know this? I just picked up a non-starting $430.00 unit like this for pennies, put in a new carb for about $20.00 and presto, runs like a champ.
