Ryobi 40V 15” String Trimmer Cordless Weed-eater Review

I bought a cordless electric weed eater and thought I’d share my experience with anyone considering buying one themselves that might be interested. I’m not a brand snob but I’ve had good luck with Ryobi electric tools in the past.
Additionally my gfs push mower is a 40Vx2 Ryobi cordless electric and I’ve used it a few times and had a positive experience. I was thinking that the batteries from her mower might fit this weed eater but haven’t confirmed that yet.
I love the Home Depot but I absolutely hate when corporations use confusion as a sales tactic. I’m coming in there to spend honest, hard-earned money. It would be nice if they would just give an honest straight forward price across the board instead of putting a low price online to get you in the door to only then hide that particular skew and make you jump through hoops to get the price that’s posted online. The ideal package would be something like 2 batteries and the unit for $250-300.
People know BS when they see it. Just figure out what it cost to make and mark it up enough to cover the overhead and make a profit. It’s really that simple.
This is not a political video at all. I don’t care if someone uses gas or electric it’s no business of mine. This is more of a convenience factor for me personally. Modern gasoline is pretty much trash and is unstable and makes small engines run poorly after sitting over the winter.
Not everything in life is based on politics and if you think you can guess my political affiliation based on my videos you’re most likely wrong. If your opinions differ from mine I still love you as a person and I don’t take it personally. I’m just at an age where I want things to run smoothly and I’m experienced enough to make that happen. The battery life is meh. But it’s hot here in the summer and 55 min of weed whacking after work every day is plenty for me.
Thank you for your time.

I bought a weedeater just like that. Then I bought a battery operated chainsaw and I have 2 batteries I can use on both.

Sorry Mike not going to do it ... It just wouldn't be prudent no sir...my neighbor threw away a $450 husqvarana edger cause the head went bad.... I took it and put a straight shaft string trimmer shaft and head on it the thing is a beast! One pull and it starts all day...so no it just wouldn't be prudent to go electric no sir not going to do it!!😂😂😂

To each their own no judgement from me. The biggest cranes and dump trucks in the world are electric. Trains and cruise ships use diesel over electric. It’s more efficient and for me it’s more convenient. I don’t go get the gas. Idk where my 1 gallon can is half of the time. No one works on them here locally anymore. For me this is the only way to go.

Summer is about half over. I would assume that the Home Depot will be having some end of season sales on lawn and garden equipment. I’ve been eyeballing patio furniture and it’s about 25% off right now. I’m hoping to catch it when they go to 40-50% off.

Electric Weed Eaters tend to usually come with a battery that would sell at the price the unit/product it sold with because it's essentially a loss leader to get you invested into the ecosystem. Want more done for longer, get another or bigger battery.

I bought the trimmer after watching your video. It is so difficult to take apart the bottom piece to put strung it in. I spent hours trying to get It to work. Overrated! I am returning it tomorrow.
@MikesMischief
@MikesMischief Месяц назад
You’re not supposed to take it apart. You supposed cut off 8-10 feet of string and feed it through the little hole and it’ll come out the other hole. Hold the ends of the sting together and make sure they’re equidistant to the center of the head. Then use the winding tool to wind the string into the head. It’s the easiest weedeater refill on the planet by a large margin. Please don’t take it apart it’s not designed to be taken apart regularly like the old weed eaters.

Tht bolt on the right side of the gearbox (when ur using it is the grease port. Might b able to find a zerc to fit in it or at most mower shops, thry have tubes of grease tht u can insert into tht hole and grease it tht way.

I bought this last summer 2023. I don’t have the model. It just says ryobi 40v on the case. I just went on the Home Depot app and entered “ryobi weedeater” and it was the first one to pop up. It says they’re $159 now.

@MikesMischief
@MikesMischief 7 месяцев назад
I used it all summer with zero issues. I’m a diesel/motorhead kind of guy and I would never go back to mixing gas. It’s nice to be able to just refill a gas tank and keep on going but at almost 40 years old, 1 hour of weeding per day is plenty for me. I can’t really afford to and don’t really want to destroy things to test them so I can’t speak to the durability but with regular use I think it’ll last the life of the batteries. I do wish they would add a grease zerk to the gear box because that did get a little warm when gummed up. I don’t know if it would survive a fall off of a truck or off of a shelf in the shed. But it’s so nice not having to listen to or smell a 2 stroke engine screaming away. For a regular lot in town 50’x100’ I think it would be sufficient. Thank you for the comment.

@@MikesMischief Thanks for the feedback buddy. I'm a bit of a gearhead, too, trying to make that transition to battery-powered tools (some). Hard to argue with the ease of use and maintenance. Appreciate it!

Everyone wants 2 batteries a charger and the tool. Every cordless drill, impact driver, sawzall ever sold as a kit has come with the tool, 2 batteries and a charger. I really wonder how much more expensive lithium batteries are to produce. Is it really 4-5x more expensive than nicad batteries? Seems like a racket to me. One battery lasts about an hour when new. An hour of weed eating is plenty for me.

Stihl gas trimmers suck! Nothing beats a REDMAX
@MikesMischief
@MikesMischief 6 месяцев назад
The stihl weed eater in this video fell off of a pickup truck going 45 mph. It sat in a shed open to the elements for 2 years. I pumped the bulb a few times and it started firing on old gas after a couple of pulls. redmax sold their soul while Stihl is still owned by the same family as Andreas Stihl whom founded Stihl in 1926. Everyone lies to themselves it’s human nature so don’t feel too terrible about it. But there’s no way in H*ll that a redmax is a better piece of equipment. It’s a sticker slapped on a Huskvarna now and Stihl is > Huskvarna. Huskvarna has had some serious quality control issues for the last decade. The Huskvarna “dealer” in our town doesn’t even carry blade spindle replacements let alone regular wear items. Belts, blades and tires, otherwise throw it away and buy a new one is their moto. Redmax is directly linked to a roof over your head and food in your belly so we call that being biased. My opinion is based on non biased experience and therefore holds more merit. I do respect your hustle and trying to make a buck but I don’t have to participate or agree with your opinion.

@lycanhd Idiot.
@MikesMischief
@MikesMischief 6 месяцев назад
@lycanhd I bought a used Huskvarna riding mower. The rods that connect the mower deck pulleys had worn out after 6 years. They weren’t mild steel but they were far from hardened. It matters because it’s the same group of cats just trying to make a buck off of someone else’s hard work and quality name without actually providing the expense of quality. You said your grandpas dog’s 4th cousin owned a dealer so you’re biased. I could care less. You’re just a nutter contrarian that always has something to say. How do you call a device that can weed eat, weed wack, edge, trim hedges, till, I think I saw a snow blower attachment… how do you call that a string trimmer? What if you’re using the blade attachment? Then is it a string-trimmer with a blade attachment? Or would it then be a blade-trimmer? Electric motors are going to be the end of 2 stroke weed eaters. There might be a couple of companies like Stihl that will pivot and survive. But douchmax is going to be just like Detroit diesel, Mack trucks and Caterpillar engines. They’ll be sold for their name and the name will be slapped on someone else’s lower quality product. I’m certain that Stihl will be around until they ban 2 strokes completely. Drop your redvarna off of a truck going 45mph and lmk how good it runs. But you said “Stihl sucks”. That statement is not based in fact or logic and is actually quite delusional. The founders of Redmax sold their company. That’s how important they think their product is. They could care less about the customer or the quality of their name or they never would have let someone else control it. Facts!
