Your tip about dis-engaging the chain brake on the clutch cover when you re-assemble the chainsaw saved me from paying someone to fix the chain saw. The instruction manual doesn't mention doing that and other videos gloss over that fact. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for this very well clarified video! I used my chain saw for the first time today, the chain popped off when i had only two small branches to go, and I could not get it back on. I think because the other video that I watched, not yours, wasn't as clear as you were on what to do, so I got back up there on the ladder and it was locked up. So when my back stops hurting, I will put it back on the way that you showed! Thank you again so much! I am a 67 year old, 4'9", 105 pound woman with a lot of ambition.
Don’t listen to the haters. You helped me out with the reapplying of the cover with the brake off. I was having a hard time and couldn’t figure out why. Thanks
What helped me the most was when you demonstrated that you could tighten the chain saw with the little screw. My chain kept coming off the chainsaw and I didn’t know why. This saved me a ton. Thank you.
holy geez ...... this is an excellent video. I have the exact same model. Exact same, and this is why I'm here right now. Thanks so much for making this vid. Excellent.
This is a perfect instructional video. You got straight to the point, no distracting edits and no music. My chainsaw threw the blade last night and I was struggling on getting it back together and couldn’t figure out why the chain wouldn’t spin. Your video and the bit about having the brake disengaged helped me tremendously. Thanks!
exactly what I needed, and so clear and concise. THANK YOU! An excellent tutorial and it saved me from having to take the saw to an expert just to have the blasted chain adjusted.
Thanks Chris. Very clear and stratightforward. I have an 18" Ryobi, had difficulty getting that housing to come off and couldn't see what was holding it on. After watching you I'm going to try it again, it should slide off just like you demonstrated. Thanks again, appreciate you taking the time to share, it is helpful!
Thank you this was very helpful. I just bought my Ryobi and used it for two days and the chain got loose. This helped me a lot to understand my new machine. No I'm going to go back to cut my orange tree down.😀 🌳
Good video! 😎👍 My wife got me the 18” version for Christmas from Discount Brothers which we will NEVER buy anything from again! 😡😝👎 Because she thought she was getting a good deal, and it came USED and dirty with NO owner’s manual! 😡😤 So we called them, she got her $ back, and I had 2 gift cards for Lowes, so I went there and got a brand-new Craftsman 18” 42cc saw, and I like it much better! 😎👍 The Ryobi DOES run, so we’ll probably put it in a garage sale.
Great video it shows and explains everything simply, I have a Ryobi 16' and we were having problems with the chain break, so we applied pressure to the clamp pushed the leaver and the chain break went back to New.
@@lesig1297 I ended up taking it back and even the employees at home depot told me get your money back and go somewhere else to buy a better one because ryobi is garbage
Nice video on how this "should" work. Just bought a new Ryobi 16" and can't get the chain back in place after it popped off. This model has what Ryobi calls a Safe T tip on the front of the bar which makes it very difficult. Probably returning this tomorrow.
I noticed your saw doesn't have a safety tip "bracket". Mine is rivited, so I had to loosen bar as much as possible, remove chain off tip, then pull chain backwards off drive sprocket. Thanks for the helpful video.
I have used this Ryobi 16" 37cc saw for my limbing and small cuts (super lightweight, and a good inexpensive little saw for little projects) for over 5 years. Of course, I upgraded this Ryobi to an Oregon bar and chain to make it work well. But I digress. I never expected that this saw would become a staple on my dads property. I did not expect that it would be a little workhorse that would show up every day to limb, chop, and make short work of new growth. I am on my 3rd chain, and (as I explained, go OREGON bars!) my 2nd bar. Learn how to keep your chain sharp, so you are not buying a new chain when what you have just needs a little honing (imagine everyone throwing away their pocket knives, instead of sharpening them correctly). Whatever saw you choose to take home, just remember the mantra of wise men everywhere. 'She is a fickle bitch. You have to learn just what she wants. Just what she needs, even if she will never articulate that fact to you. Use your Zen power, and figure out what she needs to be happy and grind hard. She will never tell you, so you had better figure that out for yourself. If you can unlock that mystery, she will stay by your side forever, and never let you down'.
Hey! Thanks I’m a single mom in Alaska and this video saved me from having to call a buddy!! (Call of shame 😂) It was that damn red button chain brake that was tripping me up!
Thanks! Just bought refurbished unit with bar and chain off and, as usual, owners instructions are garbage (but they are garbage in three languages so that counts for something). I feel confident now about installing chain and bar. Now off to mixing gas, filling oil, etc. Maybe by tomorrow I will be up and running!😄
Hi I have bought a Ryobi RCS 5050 and have a problem in loosening the 2 nuts to change the chain! The can be unscrewed but I can’t remove them out although they are completely loosened Can you support pls
I've fixed 10 Ryobi chainsaws that all had the same problem . Chains with hammered drive links . Stiff spots in chain and bar sprocket wore out . They all had the same problem .the replacement chain was the correct size but wrong style . Ryobi requires a 3/8 LOW PROFILE pitch NOT a 3/8 standard pitch . THESE ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE . Nobody mentions that . So pitch , gauge , and drive links will get you the right size but will wreck your chain and sprockets . Unless it's a LOW PROFILE CHAIN. This is a big deal any needs to be pointed out very clearly .as most people don't read or keep the manuel's . Of the 10 saws I fixed only one retained the manuel . Please spread the word
I need some extra help. Somebody took this thing completely apart and the little red mechanism to release The band was obviously taken apart along with everything else that they took apart. I have been able to put the entire chainsaw back together, but I cannot figure out how to put that mechanism in there properly. Need some serious help with thatASAP. So now I can't make that band open up any wider to fit on?
Hi @jeffguybersen I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're having. I haven't dealt with this problem before, so I recommend contacting Ryobi customer support for help. They should be able to assist you, and if needed, provide a replacement. Best of luck.
I don’t see why you can’t. I haven’t seen the 18” one but I couldn’t imagine it being any different. Just make sure to get the correct size chain for it. Glad the video was helpful!
If you want to learn how to do it yourself, there are a lot of tutorial videos on it too. One cheap file can save you a lot of money in chain replacement. You should be able to resharpen a chain anywhere from 3-10 times depending on circumstances.
