I actually got two Ryobi 40v batteries just this week that were dropped off for recycling. Hoping to crack them open and make a video of those very soon.
i have one a similar capacity tester like urs but with a different display, i've been wanting to use it but i've lost the instructions , do they all work abt the same though?
I think there are a few different "chinese brands" selling nearly the same unit. It is a little annoying to configure because it all happens with just one button - but you don't need to change the config much after setting it up. Mine is Single press to cycle through the screens/options. double or triple press to change a setting value up/down. Hold on the last click to have it just keep going up/down. The settings are self explanatory enough. > XXX w will stop if wattage exceeds that. < xxx V will stop if voltage dips below that. etc. Top knob is coarse current adjustment, bottom knob is fine current adjustment. i think my instructions said to not take it over 160w so I configured the automatic upper cut-off at 150w so I never accidentally push it more than they recommend.
eve seemed to be a pretty popular brand among chinese knock off batteries, however i feel something isnt adding up when the price of their 2.5Ah/30A 18650 is going for less than a buck a piece? Anyway i had bought over a hundred of their cells in both 18650s n 21700s over the months n they've been holding up ok, abt 8-10 failed (due to me running batteries way below 2.8Ah) i had tested most of their cells to be within 90% of what their claim. For me what matters most is how long they'll last, which only time will tell, but honestly, if they fail like after a yr, i think my dollar (they literally cost like a buck or less) is already well spent, though i'll look for another brand since building batteries takes some effort n becames a drag if u're expected to do it on a regular basis
Yeah, they seem to do their job ok long term from all I've read online. Does depend on how you use (or abuse) them. Exaggerated capacity aside, these seem perfectly fine for hobby/diy use at least.
