I just got one. If the bit sticks when loosening it by hand, you need to adjust the tightness of the lower part of the quick connect with the wrench where it screws on. There’s a sweet spot where it’ll work as designed. If it’s too tight on the rotary tool, the bit will stick.

I just bought mine yesterday and tryed it out. Worked fine for me slick as a whistle. It worked good with my dremel bits as well

I use this rotary tool more than any others. I have 2 other ryobi rotary tools that use the +1 18v batteries. I also have some dremels. I like this tool the best because of it's size and weight. I only use it for woodcarving though. I bought the multi lithium battery charger since I have other ryobi lithium battery tools. I dumped the quick change collets and replaced them with dremel collet chucks. Now I can use smaller shaft bits. Life is much easier now. :)

The collet is very standard for die grinders, you need to loose it once, move the bit slightly outward then continue to loosen. It's to prevent the bit flying out while in use by having 2 pairs of threads. So you unthread the first, move the bit slightly, then continue to unthread the second pair.

The collet is fine, its the way you are trying to remove the tool bit. the wrench is not even needed to remove the tool bit. Maybe read the instructions, clockwise/anti clockwise unlocks it. If the collet is spinning its clearly not done up properly on the rotary tool... No issues with mine...

Great video! I remember my first time using tools too!

A while back, this was on sale at Home Depot. I bought one and an extra battery. I took it home, loved it and bought a 2nd one and another extra battery. LOL I use this often now and I'm very happy with its power. It achieves full power by using PWM (pulse width modulation). Love this thing. However, that package opener thing, to me is a total waste and this video proves it. I can open these stupid blister packs much faster with just scissors. As for the collets and putting in and removing the bits, I don't know why he's having such a problem. On the 2 tools that I bought, no issues at all. However, I THINK, if memory serves, that the 1st day, I had a similar issue where it wouldn't come out easily, but all I did was to screw the outer piece back and forth a few times and there was a little click. Then, all is fine. Now, there is no issue at all. But then, I don't over tighten when installing a bit. Honestly, it does look like he's really over tightening the bit in the chuck. I just put the shaft in and finger tighten the outer screw. The bit isn't loose at all. Removing is just turning the outer part in the opposite direction and the bit removes easily. hmmmm

You over tightened the bit with the quick change collet. Also, when you loosen the quick change collet it is important not to open the collet until it stops. I found that it clamps the bit when you loosen the collet all the way until it stops. Tighten the collet on the bit until it clicks and loosen the collet until it breaks free. Give that a try and you’ll find it works great!

Did you miss the part where the chuck was tightened by hand only?
@BlondieSL
@BlondieSL Год назад
@Sean Stevenson EXACTLY! I bought on when on sale, love it then a few days later, bought another one. I mean, after all, it's best to have one for in the lab and another for the tool chest in the garage. LOL But seriously, I think the problem here is that Ryobi doesn't explain how to use this particular chuck properly. On the 1st one I bought, the very first time I used it, the bit got stuck as I did over tighten by hand. Then I realized the error and did exactly as you suggest here. I tighten only to the point of the click and the bit is locked in place perfectly. Then, just turn the thumb screw the opposite way and the bit comes right out. It's all about knowledge. Also, I do have to say, I can see why this channel doesn't get any likes. This guy is just sarcastic to viewers in their comments. Personally, I'm just going to add this chan to the "don't suggest this channel" list.

That quick package tool you showed in the beginning is so slow! Could be faster with dull scissors!

I like your review. I just recently picked up the 12 volt and had the same issue with the chuck. I have a corded Dremel and I got extra quick change chucks. I use one of them now with the Ryobi cordless. Ryobi's quick change chuck tightens for the bit and the tool as it can be tightened by the wrench at both ends. I found this doesn't work well. I hope Ryobi is reading about this issue. Thanks for your video.

I just now bought that cordless one and had the same problem, and I am very familiar with the Dremel and others for sharpening chainsaws as well. Very frustrating I tried everything in the Ryobi video.

Ryobi now has a toolless chuck jist like the Dremel version. I bought one a couple months ago and just now remembered getting it. wlwook for the update soon. Thanks for watching.

Tightening the collet way to hard ... not necessary. The collet is getting stuck to inside the collet nut because of deforming caused by too much pressure. Firm, not as tight as you can make it, is typically all you need for this type of tool. Cheers and good luck ...

I see this on clearance here in Canada for 35 bucks but not to sure if it’s under power or how long the battery is gonna last compared to my Milwaukee m12 rotary tool . They did have a corded ryobi tool for 10 bucks more I might take a better look at because mine is old and on the way out

I happened to have an actual quick change chuck. Aside from the piece of shit chuck, it's a great cordless rotary tool. I would also suggest ditching the 2ah battery and grabbing a 2 pack of the 3ah batteries. Well worth the $30, when on sale

Just based on the fact that he didn't read the directions I'm going to assume he just doesn't know how to use the quick change properly.

Same issue here. I think someone else above is suggesting you can use one wrench at the top and one at the bottom to open the chuck a bit more, then it should work fine with the quick change. I don't know if I have a wrench that small though, so right this minute I'm too frustrated to dig around for one. Really disappointed there's no quality control from the factory on the chuck. I naturally assumed the accessories that came in the box would work with the product in the box. 🤷🏻‍♂

I fixed mine with another wrench, one at top and bottom of the chuck to open it back up. After that it seems to work fine. But they have a basic chuck and my corded Dremel chuck work with it as well.

I have similar problems with the quick change chuck. (Very disappointed that a GREAT tool has such a crappy holder. Shame on Ryobi quality control. ) I also used a Dremel replacement part.
