I was asked to make a video removing the clutch on a ryobi trimmer. I forgot how strange this setup was but the basic steps are still the same. Thanks for watching and please check out my other videos.

Great video,I had a hard time putting it back together,so I got some thin wire rods and inserted them trough the holes to keep it aligned once you have it aligned you take one rod and put the first screw on and then the next and the next You have to wiggle it around a little bit but it worked great and got it back together. Hope it helps all of you that had this problem.

Thank you Otto Bones for the comment I appreciate it. Yes it was tough to put back together. This video was a viewer's request and it was only the clutch removal.

This is exactly how i was able to get it back together. I cut a coat hanger into 4 pieces to make the rods as Otto describes above.

Thank you Otto Bones for posting your solution for getting it back together. I spent over an hour trying to get it back together while getting very frustrated. Your solution was the only thing I could find on line that explained how to get it back together. I did what you said and with some wiggling, I was able to get it back together. I used 120v 14 gauge electrical wire and stripped 1" off of each of the four ends. After inserting them into the holes and through the black plastic piece inside, I bent the 120v wire ends at a 90 degree angle so they wouldn't fall out as I was putting the trimmer back together. Then using pliers, I pulled hard on one of the wires to remove it and inserted the screw. I repeated this for the remaining wires as you suggested. Bending the ends of the wires also allowed me to stand the trimmer vertical which helped with the wiggling and getting everything seated properly. Thanks again. Your solution worked great, and without it I would have given up.

Ryobi make an aluminium piston stopper to lock the engine up,we used it a lot on warranty & non warranty repairs. Unless you're replacing the shaft,on some models the plastic cover doesn't need to be removed when replacing the clutch !

how do you put it back together

Same here. Specifically how do you align the clutch with the cover. The 4 screws that go through the cover aren't aligning with the starter for me. I'm sure the rest would be simple, but knowing how you aligned these would be VERY helpful. Thanks for the video!

Hi, i am new to your feeds, but enjoy them very much. I needed to replace the clutch on the same model as you have here. I got the old clutch off ok and the new one on. The problem now is getting it back together. Every time i get engine in place and the bolts in place and on, the starting rope seems bound. I can slowly pull it out, but in wont recoil until i have loosened all the screws and pull the engine back out half inch or so... Can you give me some advice as to how to get this all back together and working?
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 6 лет назад
Thank you Tom Sak. The recoil needs to be oriented when put back together. There is top and a bottom to it. Are you able to put the last bolt in the bottom of the handle? In the video I believe mine was missing already.

Hi, I have the same problem as Tom. I have been trying for hours now after replacing the coil and I can't get the assembly to reset properly. If I for it in, the recoil won't work. My string comes out but it does not recoil back in. I can't get the orientation right to get it to setup properly. BTW, do you have to pull the string all the way out or leave it coiled in to assemble? It would be great if you can do a video showing how you assemble it back together. Please reply and post a video link if do make one. Thanks,

I did notice that some of the new Ryobis and other models have “full crank’ models with the recoil on the rear that are easily removed for service.
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 3 года назад
Oh i hadn't noticed. Is that the newest one's?
@andybecker2693

I was just at Lowe’s last week and I always look at the new models. The new Ryobi 25cc 2 cycle trimmer says “full crank” on the box and sure enough the recoil is on the back of the unit. The price is $149.00 though. For another 50 bucks I still would choose the SRM 225.

I would like to know how to get this trimmer back together, I have 2 of them and 1 blew up so I made 1 good unit from 2 and now cannot get the clutch back into the housing half.....is there some sort of trick to this?
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE

Yes it's very trick and I have some video in my computer that I haven't uploaded yet. I might try and get it uploaded in 2 weeks if you're willing to wait.

Is the bearing inside the housing of model ry28100 press fitted from the inside or threaded into place? The clutch drum has broken off from its shaft. Removed spring clip on the inside but drum shaft is still stuck inside bearing in housing. Tried gently tapping the bearing out but no luck so far. Is the bearing even removeable? Can't reach small recessed spring clip inside the nose of the housing to remove the broken drum shaft. Suggestions?
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 2 года назад
I'm not sure, I've never dealt with that and the drawing I have, I don't a good view of the bearing either.

How do you remove a stripped drum screw whatever kind it is?
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 3 года назад
I would drill the head off so you can remove the drum. then you can use an Easy out for the rest of it and it will be easier with the drum out of the way.

Personally, I would steer clear of buying (especially new) equipment that doesn’t have the recoil on the rear of the machine where it is easily acceptable. This design on the Ryobi/ Homelite and others is just a cost saving measure. It only uses half of a crankshaft so the recoil and clutch are on the same side. Most shops won’t work on these box store units and they get tossed which is exactly what these manufacturers want.

INSIDE HOUSE GARAGE I respect you for having the patience and knowledge to work on the cheaper residential equipment that most shops wouldn’t work on. You are helping a lot of people and keeping machines from going to the landfill. Your vids also help people fix things on a budget. I’m definitely a superfan of the channels.
