I met Ryuichi once in Sydney after his concert. He was so humble and a sweet and gentle man. He had a lot of time to chat and was charming. I will never forget that evening.

I've never listened to a more expressive and creative artist than Sakamoto, not matter the performance he is always able to touch the heart and soul. It's as if he's managed to pick the lock of our most closely guarded emotions and allow them to consume us. In the process he steals our hearts and makes us question who and what we are.

I can't tell you how much this beautiful, genius piece of art means to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Sakamoto-san! 🙏

Debra Winger and John Malkovich were great in the Sheltering Sky. The scene when he dies in the desert was really moving, despite the fact that their marriage was in shambles, and that he played the part of a cold and cynical person, Kitty falls into despair at the moment of his death.This scene was one of the saddest I had ever seen at the time. The theme song by Ryuichi Sakamoto does convey a sense of loss. Magnificent work from an incredible composer, who is a typical example of minimalist.

Addio caro Maestro

Music is perhaps what you make of it. This piece invokes a majestic sadness inside of me. In my head, it tells the story a lonely man proving himself to an audience of nothing but mountains and valleys. It echoes on and on through the snow-topped peaks, but still nobody hears it and for that he is mournful. Maybe this song is empty to some people, but emptiness is a feeling too. Isn't that what music is supposed to do? Invoke our true feelings?

I've come to the conclusion that ,personally, I enjoy Mr. Sakamoto's songs --when it's just him and his instrument. How stressful---no room for error---and he shines like a diamond!!! It 's one ,if not the greatest, live performances that I've been fortunate to witness in my lifetime!! What a master he is!
